By the by, I got my copy today, and that review is spot on.  Censored version of the extended cut.

Looks like I'll be splicing before long.

The review says the video quality on the extended version isn't great, what's you opinion on that? could you post some screenshots comparing the 2 versions?

cheers

The DVDfile review seems to indicate that it looks fairly decent.

I've never seen the TV cut, so I'm actually looking forward to this. And since this extended version was prepared specifically for television, it should not be considered 'censored.' That is what was intended and that is what's on the disc.

The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!

I think it looks pretty damn good, actually.  Certainly better than we've ever seen it before.  And arguably not far from the quality of the regular version.

Here's some caps...(theatrical cut caps are first)

What the heck? If the TV cut looks that good, then I don't see why the review bashed it. I think it looks, well, DVD quality anyway. I was expecting a blurrier, washed out look (like Anchor Bay's extended footage for Army of Darkness).

Looks good! It's a shame they didn't take the time to cut in the obscene content from the theatrical, and some special features would have been nice... but at least we've got something of much better quality than mine.

And, for those interested in adding the R-Rated content back in, my version has subtitle tracks detailing all the spots where it goes (with the exception of audio-only edits, although you can pick those dubs out pretty easily).

The caps are misleading. I picked this up today, and while it isn't a disaster, the image quality leaves MUCH to be desired.

A good upconverting DVD player is going to soften the blow, but the Extended Cut looks pretty poor. Again, the caps are useless. It needs to be viewed in motion.

Wait, so the extended cut on the new DVD has violent scenes cut out?

Author

Just some violence that was deemed "too violent" for the tv version. Like when Ulysses stabbed that guy in the foot, so he could fight his way loose.

So McFly's cut is back to edit status, eh? Kewl.

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

And McFly's cut contains all the violence from the theatrical right?

That's correct! Though I'm sure someone will re-cut my version using the superior sources.

The Uncanny Antman, for one. He said he'd be "splicing before long." I've spent enough time with Waterworld, but I was sure to outline the changes in my subtitle track so that it would be easy for someone to follow in my footsteps.

What  exactly is wrong with the image quality? Is it noise/brightness/contrast/sharpness/encoding quality? Or something else?

It looks like normal dvd quality to me.

Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

That's a real bummer that it's censored =/ Guess some things are just too good to be true.

Does anyone know which, if any, of the scenes from McFly's cut are absent (aside from censoring)? I might have to get this anyway, just for the improved picture.

Here's my rip, you may have seen it on some old emule site or something, but I still have this rip.  It's a alright quality VHSRip if anyone wants it.

Plan, yes. I started the composite back when I first got the disc and got about an hour into the cut before I realised that I didn't want an "every scrap of footage" edit after all, so I started going with my own choices as to when to go theatrical and when to go TV. In other words, it'll be no good for anyone wanting a complete version.

I'd say it's probably about 75% finished, but not actively being worked on right now.

Does anyone have a copy of the TV Cut of "Far and Away" that aired on Encore?  I've been trying to get a copy of this for literally years, and nothing has panned out.  Any help?
