no, you would find something else wrong, complain about some other

it would cost too much etc..

face it, you've gotten into the fact you've hated Lucasfilm, Lucas etc. so much..

no, even in the brightness of a perpetually sunlit world, you would rub poop all over your

body, perhaps even go so far as eating it, trying to rub it on other people, talking to it like a person,

making furniture out of it, etc..

face it, you've gotten into the fact that you want fecal matter in your entire life, mind etc. so much..

special editions are nothing but a personal fan edit by george lucas to satisfy himself and should never been released or allowed to supercede the classic versions.  Nobody would care if he released the oot in a real restoration. Instead we get 1993 laserdisc bonus discs.

Right on!,

all of this is so true.

Dude, if the OOT got restored and released tomorrow, I'd probably take the day off work, buy the set, and sit home watching it.  I personally don't care which audio track LFL uses, as long as it sounds on par with something else released in 2008 (Dolbe Digital surround and things like that).  Cut scenes?  They'd be nice, but not a deal breaker.

Would I have a reason to come here?  Sure, but it wouldn't be to bitch about the release.  People are bitching about the 06 DVDs because they took a laserdisc master from 1993 and threw it on a DVD.  That's not remastered by any stretch of the imagination.

I think the majority of the people here share the opinion that if the OOT were completely remastered and released on both DVD and Blu-ray (there's really no point in not doing a Blu-ray release now), we'd buy it in a second.  Sure, there might be some complaints of "they didn't use this audio track" or "they didn't include this audio track", but by and large most of us would be downright ecstatic.

Yes if that happened i could live with the Special Editions and the Prequels, I still would not love them but they would not have replaced the real movies from 1977-1983.

Sadly there is not a snowballs chance in hell of Lucas ever doing a proper restoration up to current industry standards (this would mean the oot could be shown theatrically again or be given a blu ray release) or he would have answered the fans and Robert Harris insistance on this being done now before the remaining prints and negatives are competely beyond saving.

I believe Harris even said just because the oneg was cut up for the special edition (a crime beyond words) he could savage it and undo those destroyed sequences.

Lucas saves everything practically there is no reason why we cannot get the mono mix for star wars, the 35mm mix and the 6 track mag.  I guarantee you lucas has these in the lfl archives and ben burtt and tom holman had access to them for the 1993 mixes and the 1997 mixes.

Tom Christopher and Ben Burtt undertook an exhaustive search for the old sound stems and elements in 1995 for the restoration of the soundtrack, they were in vaults underground, or elsewhere many at fox studios, samuel goldwyn or even at elstree in england.  Whatever else that was not lost was in Lucas own archives.

Lucas even mixed the old foreign dubs their is no reason those cannot be released as well for the purists.  You know people who care to hear the 1977 japanese dub or german for instance.   From what i know the foreign dubs were more finished than their american counterparts using all the changes from the mono mix though many were in stereo.

The intent of the 1993 mix was to cherry pick the best parts from all three original mixes on the 1977 film to complete the "definitive" mix.  But Later Burtt found he forgot the 3-P0 tractor beam line.  Other than that the 2 channel definitive mix is the best mix ever realized for home audio.  Since the 6 track Magnetic 70mm monaural mix has never been released, well it is called six track stereo but not true stereo the surrounds were monaural.

Yeah i love the trailers even for the special editions i will grudegingly admit they were well made and edited and made people excited to see the films in theaters again.  I saw all three in 1997.  My biggest gripe was greedo shooting first other than that i did not hate the changes over all because i Had the 1995 pan and sacn one last time set at home.

Not sure if your interested but derann films in the UK has an excerpt in super8mm scope of the podrace in the phantom menace.

Some guy sells it on ebay for 80 bucks or something too much for me.

Yeah and the Luke avatar is my favorite moment of the entire star wars series.  It is when he throws away his lightsaber and says "Never.  I'll Never Turn to the dark side.  You've failed your highness, i am a jedi like my father before me".

I've long admired your avatar - that's also one of my favorite scenes in the trilogy. I also like the scene when he says "I will not fight you father". In some ways I like the duel in ROTJ even better than the one in ESB. Sometimes I get the urge just to watch the last 20 minutes or so of Jedi- the funeral pyre scene is also one of my all-time favorite parts of the trilogy.

Jedi's final minutes, what with the duel and everything - it always makes me wanna go back and watch it.  But then I try to sit through the beginning, remember the 04's lightsabers, and say "screw it".  Still, I agree it's a great moment in Star Wars.

Do we really have to go out and buy another set? I mean come on we wont be getting an Original Trilogy set with deleted scenes like the prequels the new goal of this site should be to get the Star Wars Complete Saga box set of all six films with deleted scenes and documentaries. But i am not buying another set until that one comes out i will patiently wait for ADYWANS Revisited Saga before i buy another set. Damn you Lucas Film!!!

Author

I honestly think they're too afraid to put all six movies together because of how polarized the fanbase is.  There are a lot of people who only like the original trilogy and don't want to waste money on three other movies they don't want to watch.  And then there are those people who only like Star Wars who wouldn't want to buy five other movies they didn't like.  So I think continuing to separate them into trilogies is a safe marketing move on their part, despite what George would want us to believe about how they're supposed to be a hexology instead of two trilogies.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Has anyone bought these? Are the GOUT discs the same as the previous release?

Author
Time

I saw these in the store today, but didn't get 'em. The package just says something like "All three classic films restored!", if I didn't know better and I read that I'd be falling over myself to buy it. (I like that they don't even tell you anything's been done to the movies anymore. Even on a TBS showing of WHITE CHICKS you get "this film has been modified from it's original version" etc, etc. Stay classy Star Wars!)

Author
Time

They are all the same as previous DVD's released. If you take them out of the box, they are the same PT discs, just in a slimline case. And the OT is the 06 release, again in a slimline case.

Same old shit again I'm afraid.

In George Lucas' mind, a classic can be rewritten and still considered a classic.

Baronlando, with the "film modified" thing, that's used to warn otherso f a Pan-&-Scan airing of a movie.  But it wouldn't be a bad idea for Star Wars to have something like that.

It's also used when they edit content out to fit in the time allotted. Tv show reruns are exempt from this warning though.

Do the OT "bonus" discs physically look exactly the same as the '06 release, though?  I'm so curious about that.

Yeah, I am curious about a number of things.

First off, whether or not the covers are the same as the original PT releases and the 06 release.

Second, if the Lego Star Wars demo is still there, or if they at least bothered to make them more current.

And finally, if the disc art/labels are still the same (for example, the OT release was done kind of oddly, with a "Disc One" followed by a "Bonus Disc". Seems like you'd either do it, "Disc One" and "Disc Two" or something like "Feature" or no extra label at all and a "Bonus Disc". Seemed odd to have a "Disc One" without a "Disc Two"). Wonder if they changed it or not.

Surprised to hear these are slimline, that is pretty lame, feels like a "budget" sort of thing to do, and these things certianly are not being sold at a budget price.

Although I don't expect anyone of these boards to have bought these.

I've had a look around at dvdtalk.com forums with no success. But then again they hate double dipping as much as you'd expect. Maybe the official site might be the way to go but, you know... I'd rather set myself on fire than search there ;)

I'd expect same bonus disc labelling and content with the covers of the '06 release with slight alterations to fit the slim cases.
