thanks ripplin, i won't be tackling the laser colour change as a proper project
it was just something to test the water with and see what i can do
despite me posting the pic and vid, i'm not that bothered about the colour

just keen to help keep the thread alive while ady's away

Yeah, to specify, I just meant use his lasers in that clip, not anything extra. Just for kicks. :)

Not bad at all, professa. I appreciate your impressive work, although, I still prefer the red lasers. :)

i recently got myself a new pc with the power to have a crack at my own fanedits
now all i have to do is learn what ady knows so very well

anyway just as a challenge to myself i knocked this up
it's only 6 seconds long but took me about 12 hours to do (including learning time of about 8 hours)
hopefully i'll get a bit faster as i go

http://img531.imageshack.us/my.php?image=greenlaseratatsxvidnk5.flv

i know it may annoy some of you as ady has already poo-pood this idea
but others have expressed a desire to see this

hope you enjoy it

WOW!  That actually looked pretty cool!  As Oliver would say: more please!

BTW, like I mentioned before, one can always modify Adywan's cut or simply do their own.  Regardless, it would be cool to see more "green laser" clips.

From the man who brought you "green AT-AT lasers" comes:

Hey Adywan,

I remember David Browse saying in an interview that the "Luke, I am your father" line wasn't the one he said during the take... in fact, the line he said to Luke/Mark was "No, Luke.  I did not kill your father.  Obi Wan killed your father."  "NOOOOOO, THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!  etc.

You think you can maybe replace Vader's line with the one above, being that it was the original line?

I wonder how people are going to react to this one?

And for those of you who really DO get mad, have you SEEN my avatar on the left?  >:)

I remember an interview stating the line went 'No Luke, Obi Wan is your father' rather than the Obi Wan killed your father one. Who knows which is true as apparently no one got a complete script for that scene apart from Mark Hamill (who had to react to the line as given to Prowse). Remember at this time, Lucas was already accusing Prowse of leaking info to the media, so was giving him false dialogue which would get the same kind of reaction to the proper stuff.

To be honest, it is the line that sets up the movie and Jedi (and, unfortunately, the prequel trilogy). If you changed it to match the alleged line, it would screw Jedi and you'd be forever wondering why Luke had gone out of his way to rescue someone who isn't his father. In addition, you'd also have to completely redo Ben's appearance in Jedi or cut him completely and also correct Yoda's final challenge to Luke on Dagobah. Far too much work, in my opinion, for an alleged line and one that would actually screw the original trilogy up.

Sorry, green lasers might be doable, but to rewrite Jedi just to accommodate the line...

In my opinion, that is...

I believe Monroville was joking. Besides, though David Prowse said those other lines on set, James Earl Jones didn't record versions of them.

ladyferry -  Thanks for adding those recent clips to the YouTube collection.

professa adyfan -  Nice work, and gives a flavour of how things would've looked if Adywan had decided to go with that.  I like that look too, but don't mind either way.

What I REALLY dislike though is the laser from the circular Rebel 'turret' seen firing at an At-At (which is seen in your clip there).  I always thought that this particular laser looked very 'painted on' and not very good.  Maybe Adywan could improve on it somewhat.

Green lasers? Arggh... green lasers are only for Imperial fighters and capital ships!

Red is for ground troops and vehicles on both sides (except Imperial speeder bikes which are orange/yellow).... and for all Rebel ships. Ion canons are red (forget the games).

Apart from the speeder bikes, it was perfectly consistent before the Prequels... it was just the Empire's space force that had green lasers.

(Note that I'm not counting "missiles" those little glowing things fired by Luke's X-Wing or Lando and Wedge to destroy the death stars, or the "bombs" dropped by TIE Bombers briefly... those are not the same as "lasers").

The prequels confuse things a little:

Queen Amidala has a blaster in Episode I that fires green shots (though everyone else uses red; it's one of those needle-nosed pistols that were hidden in the palace throne room).

Blue is for Old Republic military (infantry and capital ships anyway)... (iirc Jedi fighters shoot green lasers).

a last but not least, purple is for Geonosian fighters.

Chewbacca's bowcastor has always fired red bolts (just like all rebel and imperial infantry weapons), but we see one Wookiee in Episode III firing an "ornithopter" mounted crossbow (rapid fire) that shoots green bolts.

Anyway, ignore the video games and comics, as they just confuse things further!

Green bolts may "look cool" but it's a change I'd hate to see in Andwan's version! It's pointless. I think the red bolts look more "dangerous" anyway... and the reason we have different colored bolts in the space battles is for contrast's sake, and because a black starry background gets boring without some more things going on and more color (since it's usually just a black background with gray objects flitting past) and it's harder to tell which side the shots are coming from.

Speaking of pointless changes.... consider this...

For 30 YEARS people have misquoted the famous scene in ESB as "Luke, I am your father."

Now, thanks to the magic of editing, you can make all those people CORRECT by changing the audio (from "No, I am your father")! ;)

Happy Halloween everyone (yesterday)!

Alright, I think the general consensus is to keep the red lasers, and even if it isn't, it's Adywan's final decision.

Now let's move on.

Why does there have to be a pattern or logic to the laser colors at all?  As long as they don't change in the middle of the scene, what difference does it make in the first place whose lasers are what color?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

ever since the original trilogy came out, most have been used to seeing green lasers coming out of the empires tie fighters. thats how a lot of people told them apart at the time.

The only changes I would make that I have not seen mentioned yet are:

the scale of the Millenium Falcon going into the asteroid cave and coming out is different,

and

when Lando goes up to rescue Luke he travels up what seems like 15 feet of interior, and through three hatches.  Take out the first hatch.  It screws up the scale of the Falcon.

If these were mentioned at all, I missed it, and I apologize.

This is FANTASTIC!  I did not think that the word green could cause so much talkback.  (insert Heath Ledger laughing )  >:D

For those who have commented one way or the other, I really do appreciate the feedback; that's what this is for!  And for the record, either way is fine with me, though "AT-AT green lasers" can be done by someone else if they want to.  That is the great thing about how powerful computer processing is today.  Regardless, Adywan has stated a hundred posts (?) ago that they will stay red, so everything else is simply beating a dead horse... with green AT-AT lasers.

and Rhikter?  You are correct... you are in STAR WARS hell... >:)

Now maybe we can improve EMPIRE by making Lando's hair a different color, or digitally remove Princess Leia's clothing... or is that being saved for JEDI?  Better still, you could always change all of the guns to walkie-talkies... you know, because STAR WARS was meant for children.  And we wouldn't want children to think violence was cool, would we?

I mean, other than the Death Star blowing up a split second before firing the DS cannon and all; and the Millenium Falcon escape; from Tatooine; and the Death Star; and the last battle....

Really? Compare to the length that Luke has to climb to get to the gun turret in ANH.
