How Many Versions?

Hello

Just wondered if anyone could tell me how many versions of each of the Stars Wars films (4, 5 & 6) have been released since the Original back in 1977.

I know about the Special Editions but were there any extended versions, edited versions etc released between the Originals and the Special Editions and what are their differences?
I personally have only ever seen the re-mastered Special Editions (too young I guess? ) and was really looking forward to getting the Originals on DVD, which looks doubtful now.

I did try to search the net for more information but only found one site. If anyone knows of any site which details any changes made to the films I would be most interested in reading them.

Any info would be appreciated.

The original print of the first STAR WARS film DOES NOT have "Episode IV - A NEW HOPE" on the title crawl.

"EPISODE IV - A NEW HOPE" first appeared on the rerelease print of STAR WARS that came out AFTER the release of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

Other than that, the films have remained the same, no scenes were added or deleted until the 1997 Special Editions.

There are unsubstantiated rumors of people that saw the Biggs Tatooine scenes in the original film print, but they may have just saw a workprint. No hard evidence to corroborate that.

Are you referring to how many different editions have been released on VHS/DVD/LD? If so, GundarkHunter or Rebel Scumb would be best at answering this question, I think.

There are several versions of the film with different audio tracks and very minor alterations. i am sure they have been discussed on here at some point, if not someone of the web will have listed them, have a search around.

If you want to know how many releases there have been on video and dvd etc, take a look at this site

Thanks for the info guys.

Just out of curiosity I see from that link that the 1997 Gold & Silver SE box sets were limited to 40,000. Is this considered rare these days? I have the Gold box set.

If its the VHS box set you have, then its pretty worthless. Who even watches VHS anymore?

When that's the only version of the OT OV that you own, then you do still watch VHS.
