I deeply regret selling my Nintendo64. The best games in my mind were conkers and Perfect Dark.

Yeah, I still love my N64.  I'm so glad I chose that over PlayStation.  Eventually, I got a PS2 and was able to get the handful of PlayStation games I missed out on the previous generation anyway.  But it's funny how much crap gets flung the N64's way (and let's be honest... it did dethrone Nintendo from the top spot until Wii came out), but a lot of games that are still considered "the best of the series" came out on the N64, like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time.  Starfox 64 is also amazing.  Super Smash Bros. originated there.  The only real stinker I have in my library is that horrible Yoshi's Story.  Yeesh.  Nearly killed that series off in one fell swoop.

Mario 64 cannot compare with either Super Mario Bros. 3 or the amazing gem that was Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It was a neat "3D" game but it was easy and not very complicated at all.

So I finally tracked down a copy of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on eBay, and it should be here in a day or two.

Is this awesome?

SuperCastleVania was pretty sweet as were the nes versions.  But castlevania 64 sucked. While the first 3d mario 64 was good.  And later when they made 3D versions of metroid for the gamecube and the wii they did not suck though i like the sidescrollers better.  Donkey Kong Country was awesome on the snes, but the 64 one also sucked.

If not for games Like Shadows of the empire, Mario 64, or Goldeneye 64, Perfect Dark, Conkers etc. the system would suck.  It still cannot touch the supernes.

Super nes had the super star wars trilogy, Final Fantasy II (really IV) Final Fantasy III (really VI), chrono trigger, secret of mana, zelda a link to the past, Super Mario world, Super Metroid, Starfox, Actraiser. Breath of Fire 1 and 2, and Lufia 1 and 2.

If you love rpgs the super nes was a killer system for rpgs like the ps1 and ps2 would become.  and of course the xbox.  It is a little too early to say if the 360 or the PS3 is better but i am leaning towards the 360 because it has mass effect, will have mass effect 2 and will have Final Fantasy XIII and Fable 2.

Blue Dragon and that other mistwalker game suck.

I am not sorry to say the PS1 won me over the 64 for the masterpiece that is final fantasy VII.  What does the 64 have Quest 64,lol. The ps1 also had the first installment in the metal gear solid franchise.   Followed up of course with ps2 metal gear solid 2 and 3.  4 has gotten nothing but a negative backlash for the load times and being on the blu ray ps3 and not on the standard dvd 360.  Also people are pissed that it is not the last game as promised since Kojima is making a part V just without solid snake.

If you don't have an HDTV and a Blu Ray sony PS3  which are both overpriced you miss out on the much overhyped part 4.

You can watch the cutscenes on youtube until they are pulled for useage violation, lol.

Sorry, Skyguy (I couldn't resist), but technically the NES/some random Japanese computer had the first Metal Gear.  Though you're right that the PSX had the first one with "solid" in the name.

In all fairness, Sky said "Metal Gear Solid" franchise and not "Metal Gear" franchise. So I guess that all depends on if you consider them two different series or not, since the numbering restarts, I tend to consider the Solids as a spin off series from the Metal Gear series.

Though I do not own a current gen console, if I were to get one it would be the 360. Though I think the PS2 is a thing of perfection, I have yet to be too impressed by the PS3 (though in all fairness, it is still in its infancy). I tend to like the titles that are released exclusively on 360 to the ones released on the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 possibly being a perpetual PS3 exclusive (technologically speaking, it seems as though it would be nearly impossible to port it to the 360) saddens me, but regardless, I still think I'd prefer the 360.

I agree with you sky that the SNES was better than the 64. I still consider the SNES the greatest console of all time. But I think the N64 deserves much more credit than a lot of people give it. Even though I don't consider the sixty four the greatest console of all time, it is my all time favorite console. It was an amazing intoduction into the world of 3D console gaming that didn't look like pixelated crap that took hours to load.

Don't get me wrong, Tiptup.  SM64 isn't my favorite Mario game, but it is pretty great.  What I was really referring to was its legacy.  Any time a new Mario game has come out in the past twelve years, it's compared to Mario 64, as it brought Mario to the 3D world with such finesse.

Mario 64 was important because it singlehandedly invented the 3D platformer, and simultaneously set the benchmark for how a 3D platformer should be done.

I can agree that Mario64 was a fantastic translation of Mario style gameplay to 3D, but on the basic level of fun games as a whole set, it loses a lot of its importance for me.

Yes. That is one of the games I own that I would never part with.

While replacing the housing for my PSP I broke my motherboard. I feel fucking stupid. But I'm buying a new one for $95.

Well, I just spent the last week (finally) playing Mother 3 in English thanks to the fan translation!  I've been looking forward to it for two and a half years, and I just can't understand why NOA refuses to throw a bone to Mother/EarthBound fans, especially when the series has gotten so much exposure through the Smash Bros. series.  Ugh, I just don't understand.  But whatever.  I finally got to play it.  It was wonderful.  Everyone else should do the same.  ^_^

Buy Fallout 3.

I saw the teaser for Bioshock 2 the other day. It came an unlockable on the PS3 port of Bioshock, which kind of made me nervous at first, I'd really hate to see that game become a PS3 exclusive. Best I can tell no details about the game beyond what is given in the teaser have been released. I really hope that thing will be a 360 title.

The stand alone Beatles Rock Band Game sounds like a pretty cool idea.

That all the bad blood between the surviving members and family of the 2 passed beatles could put aside their differences to make this is strange.  It must be the money.

I can only wonder about which songs we will get. Also a Nine Inch Nails Rock Band game would be awesome.

Found a great retrojunk article on someone's NES re-experience.  Might be worth a look for a nostalgia buff.  In fact, even though I don't quite empathize with the writer, I thought it was a great read.

The guy uses some very weird wording in his attempts to be poetic. "Suspicious of my fellow treasure hunters", "coughed defensively". Don't get how either of those work in their context. Oh well. Always good to hear of someone rediscovering a great old console. I like the picture of NES, SNES, NUS, and NGC all together.

If I ever become so rich that I simply don't know what to do with my wealth, I intend to open up a console museum. Imagine a room filled with every console ever made, under glass and surrounded by its accessories, showing first hand the changes in technology, shapes, sizes, and designs of consoles and their media over their history. I'd even hire a tour guide to memorize the entire history of each console, give guided tours, and answer any and every question they get asked about each console. That would be pretty cool, but a long ways off, at the moment I am just a poor hobo living under a bridge, my laptop powered via an extention chord spliced into a nearby street lamp, and my faint, but existant, wifi signal lifted from some nearby resturant.
