Anyone else find it funny that that Republic Admiral in the 2nd episode looked EXACTLY like an imperial admiral. I half expected to see Anakin force choke him...

yeah but I mean the drab uniform and everything. I figured that the Republic would have something a little more colorful. It's like they picked him right out of the OT and planted him in Clone Wars

The Imperial uniforms were already present at the end of Episode III. And we have no on-screen evidence what was worn before the Clone Wars started.

Did the Republic even have a fleet before Episode II?

Where were you in '77?

I am sure that is another thing the EU explains and has different versions to confuse people.

I know that in Zahn's trilogy thrawn captures several republic cruisers to use against the new republic.  But since that was pre phantom menace who knows?

Since then we read about the republic jedi vessel outbound flight.

Supposedly and i am relying on memory here did'nt the republic have a fleet of warships and no way to crew them because of years and years of piece and no wars, so they needed the clones?  Or were the old fleets decomissioned and a whole new one built up by palpatine?  I was under the impression at that point the republic had no military, and no protection except for the jedi.

I mean seriously if the republic was not a joke they would have had a capable military and political senate and would not need the jedi.  Lucas basically made democracy look like a joke, and they need a theocracy like the jedi to run everything.

I don't know about the fleet, but Mace Windu says in AOTC (I believe) "We're keepers of the peace, not warriors".  The point was that they've had peace for so long that there isn't a military any longer.  They haven't needed one.

For thousands of years the Republic did fine with Jedi there only as peace keepers.  The Democracy that was in place worked perfectly well.  Lucas wasn't trying to make it look like the Jedi were needed to run everything.  Until AOTC, the Jedi weren't even being used for anything other than keeping the peace.  They were basically diplomats except that they could probably read your thoughts or at least sense ulterior motives.

Each planet seems to have its own security force of some sort.  Amidala had hers, so we can assume that other dignitaries also have a security force.  If a dispute arose, two Jedi (diplomats) were dispatched to resolve it.  Hence, no need for a galactic military.

episode 4 just blew me away... amazing..

they just keep getting better and better..

way more action, lots of  grievous...

tense moments..

a very good ending to the 3 story arc..

and the droid humor even made sense this time, because

of how cynical they are about being destroyed all the time.

and to think the show is just starting to get good..

nice seeing amidala again, and yes even c3po briefly (annoying)...

WOW!!!!!!!!!! the brief light saber battles, seeing the

obi-wans force powers, and anakins development also..

obi-wan and anakin are a great team.....

It's a great message board, and I hope you can join to talk SW!  Last night, after our mommies made us finish our vegetables at dinner, we were allowed to hang out at Johnny's house and we watched the Clone Wars show.  It was AWESOME!!!!  Lots of action!!!  Tons of CGI!!!  But we are waiting for Jar Jar Binks, as I can't wait til he makes his first appearance, cause he is so fricking funny!!!  Gotta go to study now, got a big test on fractions on Monday:)

I have already been yelled at by my mommy, and my penalty is no Clone Wars TV series for 2 weeks.  I won't have to worry cause I can come to OT.com and hear Negative 1 gush all about how this is the greatest TV show in the history of TV!

Ok, back to my flashcards:)

Jeez... opinions are opinions, guys. I thought we were different than "them"... that we allowed people to have their opinions without mkaing fun of them and such.

Come on bkev, if negative 1 didn't talk down to everybody, nobody would give a crap what his views were.  There is alot of people who posted on here that have enjoyed the TV series, but I don't mock them, but negative 1 throws out these ridiculous arguments because we don't make movies we don't 'truly understand' why a movie is great (of course I am paraphrasing)

Someone posted that Star Wars won 7 Academy Awards in 1977, and Negative 1 shoved it off saying no one cared about those awards and it wasn't the reason the movie was great.  One of them that won was 'Best Original Score'  won by John Williams which is a HUGE reason why people loved Star Wars in 1977 and continue to love all the movies today.  Star Wars movies would not be the same without the great  score as I would defy anyone to watch the original SW trailer from 1976 without the John Williams music, as it had a vastly different tone.

I was just trying to have some fun with Negative 1, because he definitely likes to fuck with some posters here and get them all up in a tizzy.  But I will back off because I respect this site.

There are things i like about the show and things i don't, at the end of the day it's something i choose to keep an eye on.  It's not the personal feelings that bother me. It's the e-bashing of each other over something that just isn't worth it.

Well, next week it actually starts here in the UK, so at least then I'll have an opinion. But seeing how I seem to be one of the few who didn't think the movie was that bad, I'm looking forward to it.

I just saw the first four episodes, and the show's not all bad. Sure, it's a little different.

But it's something you can watch on the bus to and from work on your choice of portable media!

Did the Republic even have a fleet before Episode II?

There were two pilots on the cruiser that delivered Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan to the Trade Federation battle station in the first scenes of Episode I. We got a brief glimpse of the pilots from the front: they wore a navy-blue version of the Imperial uniform.

According to various books, the ship: Radiant VII belonged to a fleet of ships used by the Republic to carry diplomats around the galaxy.

.. back to the series:

I was able to see the first two episodes on-line on Cartoon Network's website, and I liked them!
Then Cartoon Network cut us non-USians off from seeing them (any episode), which is something that puts me off.
