Buy or not to buy. That is the question.

Who will buy the SE dvds and who will stick with what they petitioned for and not buy?

Lets see who has the guts, and who will cave.

Me, I'll wait for what I petitioned for, the films I grew up watching, I wore out tapes of the

original three films, but I haven't sat down and watched the SE's in years. That means

something. Hopefully most people here will resist, but I know most of you want it anyway

you can get it, I respect that, but I also respect what everyone petitioned for, and I think

everyone else should too, keep that in mind on the 21st of September.
You must unlearn what you have learned.

I won't buy them unless I buy them second hand for the purpose of making my own DVD's by stripping out the SE scenes and reinserting the Original Version scenes from my LD's. That would take a lot of work though and you could tell where the old scenes were reinserted.

I will probably RENT the 'extras' disc, just to see what they did.

What are you expecting?

This petition is about wanting the OTs on DVD. It was never about not buying the SEs. I'm not happy if the OTs will not be published on a DVD but I definitely will buy the SEs on DVD. A little bit of Star Wars is better than no Star Wars at all.

BigMike, I'm standing firm. No SE DVDs for me.

I am weak. I will likely buy the discs. When it comes to SW, it's like crack to me. I guess I'm part of the problem

I agree with roloehr, and this is about getting the OT on DVD and not knocking the SE (which I did enjoy most of it, except the Jabba scene, and Han of course). I plan to buy from 2nd hand (ebay) so Lucas won't see my dollar. Keep the hope alive!

I am definutly buying them. The first day they come out. The first time I get the chance. I can't wait to see the new stuff Lucas has in store for these classics.

I'm gonna stand my ground and resist the temptation of the dark side. LONG LIVE THE ORIGINAL THEATRICAL VERSIONS! But then again, only time will tell. Clouded, the future is.

I won't buy them. And I'm currently attempting to convince as much people as possible to do likewise, by letting them know about the possible ramifications of their actions.
There's also a good chance I'll be able to offer friends who own the OT on VHS an LD backup of the german version of the OT for free in the near future (I live in germany). The force is with us.

If I buy this version it will be for the extras, so in all likely hood I'll jsut rent/borrow it.

Regardless of whether the originals get released, I'm going to wait for the 2007 ultimate edition. If I have to have a special edition, I at least want the complete one.

Patrick.R, you have the laserdiscs, and you mentioned editing the SE (something I've thought about doing in the future as well) do you have the equipment to copy the laserdiscs right now? Or is this something your looking at for the future?

If you like the originals better to buy the Special Editions to Ultimate Editions because they will be much closer to the originals.

I downloaded Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi Laserdisc copy from the internet, and they were alright, wasn't as good of quality as I was hoping for. But far better than VHS.

I don't plan on buying the Special Editions on DVD, I'll just download the extra disc. But realistically, even if 20,000 people don't buy the Special Editions DVD because they suck compared to the originals, it's not going to make a bit of difference. It's not so much that I dislike the Special Editions that bad, it's how George Lucas is going about it. First he acts like anyone that doesn't like the prequels is a simpleton, and basically says they'll be classics in 50 years, but people are too stupid to understand them now. Then for the DVDs he's basically said "screw Star Wars fans, special editions are what I want to release. Besides, it'll make me tons of money either way".

This would be the first time I've ever not bought a movie because of issues outside of the movie itself, but I just have a hard time giving that man more money. *cough* IHOPEHEGETSCANCER *cough*

Jimbo, I think we're holding out hope that the UEs will contain the OV-OTs in the set. One can hope, right?

I think you should be more careful with your words, Cyprus. A very dear friend of mine died of that gruesome disease. She had to drown on her own blood and there was nothing that could be done about it. Don't you ever wish that to someone. No one deserves such a horrible death. No one!

I may not agree with George Lucas' outlook on the perogatives of an artist vs. the demands of his fans/customers, but I still respect him a lot and whenever I see him in interviews, I realize that he is not 'evil' or anything. I hope he will have a very long and happy life and that his children will honor what they will inherit some day.

Please step back from that statement, it does not do you credit. For I am sure you couldn't have meant that.
