"BRING BACK STAR WARS" Channel 4 UK documentary coming soon...

Author
Time

Hi everybody,

Was reading the UK TV listings magazine TV AND SATELLITE WEEK yesterday, and in it's news section there's info that the UK's Channel 4 and British comedian Justin Lee Collins (the presenter of their hit FRIDAY NIGHT PROJECT late night comedy show) are doing a new documentary, BRING BACK STAR WARS, which aims to bring together as many members of the original STAR WARS cast as possible in Los Angeles for a reunion party. If anyone out there saw C4's/Lee Collins last BRING BACK programme, which was on re-uniting the A-TEAM (which was a great success, and extremely good fun, with Collins genuinely fond of the subject matter), then this shoud be pretty good-especially if Collins goes to the kind of lengths in finding and contacting Harrison Ford as he did with Mister T!!!

No airdate is announced but it's bound to be May or June, I suppose.

Thought I'd let people know...

Cheers.

I read something about this a while back. It was listed as 'Bring Back Star Wars: Return of the Jedi" on that particular site but just as 'Star Wars' on another. His targets are apparently the main cast members.

If he stalks/bumps into Harrison and he's in a bad mood, Ford may well give him a slap!!! Now. I'd pay to see that!!

What do you all bet Ford will refuse to participate? I think the chances are rather slim. He seems to have anything but fondness for the series these days. It is still funny to me to listen to any of his early intervews from right after the first movie was made and how excitedly he talked about the film. Enthusiasm that we are sure to never hear about from Ford again regarding SW.

all these 'actors' pissing about the SW films they were in makes me sick if it wasn't for those movies most of them would be nothing. some of them need to look at the shite the've been in since.

Have any of the other actors pissed on Star Wars other than Ford? Mark Hamill has always been real good with SW fans, even produced some of the comics I think. I have no idea how Carrie Fisher feels about it, but she did do the commentary for the 04 DVDs. Ford is the only one I know of who cringes everytime he hears those two words used together in the same sentence. I think Lucas went through a phase were he was saying that out of all the work he has done the only thing people ever ask him about is Star Wars and he seemd annoyed about that. Oh, and Sir Alec Guiness would be another who was annoyed at that, but he was big long before SW, so IMHO he had every right to piss on it if he felt like it.

Yeah, but even Guiness agreed to return for the two sequels. If he hated them that much, he needn't have done that.

Can't cite my source cuz I don't recall, but I remember reading somewhere that AG's sequel cameos were both shot at the same time
before ESB production was in full swing, maybe only a short while after SW production wrapped.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

By both, do you mean for both ESB and ROTJ? If so, I have a hard time believing that, since the script for ROTJ would not have been finalized or even conceived by that point. But if you mean both of his visible scenes in ESB, then, yeah, that could be true.

No, I meant both movies. But again, I can't prove it.

When has Ford pissed on SW? Just because he doesn't want to only be known as Han Solo, doesn't mean he's pissing on it. Hamill hasn't been nearly the successful actor that Ford has. Hamill's greatest work since SW has been in voice work for cartoons. That's not a bad thing, but he hasn't been playing in other movie roles. Ford may not have been as successful if he weren't in SW, but he was doing quite well for himself before it came along. In fact, if it weren't for Spielberg, Ford probably wouldn't have done nearly as well since he's the one that wanted Ford for Indiana Jones and Lucas wanted someone unknown.

Besides, at Comic-Con 05 (might've been 04), Hamill was promoting his new comic and he didn't want to hear anything about SW. Yeah, he said it was fun, but he also said he was trying to move on from it.

Of any of the one's you mention, I know of only Sir Alec Guiness who absolutely hated hearing about SW.

I may be wrong, but isn't David Prowse also pretty upset about Star Wars? Of course, I think it has more do do with Lucas than the Star Wars movies itself...

The making of Empire book clearly puts Guiness on the set during production of that film. (For ESB, he shot all his scenes in front of a black background.) The interview for that book mentions his annoyance at not getting residuals for a lot of his early films, which was probably a factor in getting a slice of Star Wars pie! The book also mentions how George wanted to have all the Dagobah scenes for Jedi shot during production on Empire, but ran out of time.

As far as I know, Prowse is upset because he couldn't play Vader in the PT. I don't know the full details of that though, just that he was trying to get in shape for it after his accident, but George decided to put Hayden in the outfit instead.

There was bad blood between Prowse and Lucasfilm in the 80's. In a old Starlog interview, he claimed he was accused of leaking ROTJ plot details to the press during production, and it was very unpleasant on the set for him after that.

Ford has been very vocal about not being too fond of SW. I guess "pissed on" would be kind of a strong word. But any time he has been asked if he would play in another SW movie he doesn't hesitate to say no. He has also more than once mentioned that he wished they would have killed Han in Return of the Jedi, because he didn't want to be asked back to make a fourth film or the second trilogy. I believe once he even said he wished George would have killed the "son of a bitch" in reference to his character, but I don't remember clearly.

Yeah, I've read about that. He felt Han's story arc was complete and that he needed to die "in a blaze of glory". I can't say I disagree. Reading any EU after ROTJ, until NJO, there isn't that much for Han to do except ferry Leia across the galaxy to different diplomatic events.

Guinness came back for ESB and ROTJ on two separate shoots largely because back in the day (don't know if he still does this), Lucas was pretty generous and gave actors a small percentage of the film's profits. Guinness got 1% off of the original, which turned out to be a hefty sum, and felt indebted to Lucas and so he came back for the two sequels.

I watched the whole thing on YouTube and it was a lot more entertaining and revealing than I expected it to be. Some of Carrie's revelations were very interesting, as were Kenny's and David's especially.

I had no idea Kenny hated Tony so much, and that story Carrie told about Harrison hanging by his tie was hilarious!

It's hard to believe that Mark was really asking for $50K. I wonder if his agent even bothered to tell him about it.

I am watching it as I type this. I am really enjoying it, it is a lot of fun. Pretty ridiculous, Justin is total idiot, but the whole thing is a lot of fun to see.

Hearing Billy Dee going on about the sexuality of his sceens on the skiff in Return of the Jedi is... confusing... interesting... not really sure what words to use to describe that...

I have also decided that Carrie Fisher's house is... amazing. After seeing this, I am suddenly much more fond of her than I ever was before. The fact that she would have SW curtians, Leia statues around her house, and Ewok soap, is really cool.

Is there any way to see the Star Wars special, or even the A-Team special online?

I would really like to see both.
