Maybe add a shot of a couple rebels standing inside the Ion cannon that have to turn and look away when it fires, like on the Death Star :)

If you mean the ion cannon on Hoth, that would work.  The regular troop blasters don't need any extra blast animation.

Yeah, I do mean the ION canon. I think the blast should retain the same shape but have an electrical look to it. It could have a electric tail streaming from it as it fires. If you wanted to really change things up you could show electricity emitting all around the canon itself right before it fires. It would be a cool way of showing it power up.

Yeah, I went off on a rabit trail with the stun gun comment...sorry for the confusion ;)

We definitely need to see more rebels die on Hoth. It should really be a one-sided battle with the rebels getting their butts kicked.

I'm not for seeing Veers die. I know it's in the script, but I don't like the idea.

I think one or two rebel transports should be destroyed in space by Star Destroyers. Maybe pick off an X-Wing escort here and there as well.

As much as I love ESB (it is my favorite film), I've always felt that the rebels never suffered enough during the Hoth battle.

As we supposed to believe every transport got away?

I see a lot of pro-rebel shots being suggested like bringing down more AT-ATs. It should be the exact opposite.

More fleeing rebels soldiers being picked off on the ground

A few fleeing transports taken out

A few X-Wings going down etc.

spot on Hade.  The Battle of Hoth should really set the stage for the movie in my opinion.  The Rebels really need to get broken down here.  Making them more successful in this scene seems contradictory to the tone.

Suggesting somehow that all the transports didnt get away would be agood idea.  Not sure how you could work that in.

More imperial presence. More rebels dying. We are a morbid lot.

But, alas, as the title of the film dictates, the empire does strike back.

Bringing down more AT ATs would be fantastic in terms of a "WOW" factor, but the film really could do with a greater scence of loss on the rebels part in the Hoth battle(as just to show both sides suffer heavy losses in the assult).

Harder, faster. > More intense < is the operative phrase.

Methinks this idea carrys some weight.....(if it can be done that is, masterAdy)

Am I the only one to see the irony in people who normally spit on George Lucas' name for adding all sorts of unnecessary things to the OT are now suggesting adding all sorts of unnecessary things to ESB? :)

Many of you have said that ESB is damn near perfect.  Why not just leave it alone, and let Adywan do what he set out to do (correct the color, fix mistakes, and snip out things he doesn't like)?  All of these suggestions ("Add more Imperials!  Let's see more Rebel deaths!  I want to see Luke Skywalker eating a Twinkie!  Get rid of that snowflake on Chewbacca's foot!") are neat as a concept, but are either unworkable (for one man on his single PC) or just plain unnecessary.

IMHO, of course. :)

I just thought for the hologram scene with the emperor that their should be some device that shows where the source is coming from for the transmission.

You couldn't be more right. But not to worry Adywan has a good eye and extremely good taste...he won't include anything that takes away from the movie...don't worry.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I agree....apart from the snowflake on Chewie's foot...that's always bugged me, as did the sand on the Wookie's foot, but that never did get fixed!!

I'll take the waffles any day of the week, but Detroit weather is getting too cold for the flip-flops. :)

You're making me hungry!

I had a thought after reading the latest posts.. so I watched the Battle of Hoth again. I think that we see the Rebels getting their asses handed to them during most of the battle, really...
... but the Empire does not look mighty enough when doing so.

The shot of the fleet entering the Hoth system is not very imposing. If it could not be remade, then maybe it could be improved.
There are a couple of TIE fighters here that look like they are turning in a wide arc around one of the ISDs ... but they are out of scale by turning too soon, which makes the Star Destroyers look smaller. The TIE fighters should become tiny spots in the distance over the SSD before they start to turn.

The end of the battle is where we would get the most opportunity to show the might of the imperial forces. However, there are a few things that are oddly timed, or just look weird.

- The shot where an AT-AT shoots at a Snowspeeder at point blank range is kinda weird, and it is also after the height of the Snowspeeder battle. I think it should be earlier.

- Right before Veers asks for the distance to the power generators, we see two shots: one outside the walker and one the view from inside the walker. There are not as many fleeing Rebel soldiers in the outdoors shot as there are seen from the inside.

- It is quite a short time after Veers hits the power generator that we see Vader walking around inside the base.

Maybe these shots could be rearranged so that Veers blows up the power generators before the shots of the AT-ATs chasing fleeing soldiers. Then we could see Imperial landing craft approaching in the distance behind then.

The combined shot of fleeing Rebels in the foreground, a shooting group of AT-ATs in the center and landing craft in the background could be the very shot that makes the impression.

Also, it would be understood that Vader is on board the landing craft.

Martin John Pollard, actually.  Unlike some, I don't believe in hiding behind an alias when I tell people to shut up. ;-)

I've been trying to think of places where we can see extra losses of the rebels.  I've made a really quick and dirty photoshop of a destroyed transport drifting in orbit when Luke is on his way to degobah.  I know Adywan doesn't consider anything not in the movies to be canon, but in Tales of the bounty hunter, the transport that Leia was supposed to be on in the hoth evacuation was destroyed.
