Well, it's finally leaked on the internet (official release date in the U.S. is September 12th according to Amazon.com) and, well, I can't believe I'm saying this, but to put it short and sweet:

I'm liking Unforgiven 3 but overall I'm feeling liek the songs really drag. they go on and on for minutes at a time without actually doing anythig that sounds overly interesting.

And a lot of the time all I can really hear is Lars banging away. It's certainly a step up from the last album but it's just not as good as say Load / Reload - Yes i know the die hard fans whinge about those but they had some rocking sounds.

Not saying it's crap, it's too early on to judge but I'm already noticing things that turn me off a little. It's like they just dont 'get' it anymore.

Curious as to what others think / Will think. Wonder what Dave Mustaine thinks... ;)

To me this is the most overly hyped thing ever next to Star Wars Episode 1 and Indiana Jones IV, it can't possibly but blow up in their faces.

It will be better than St. Anger (or St Anal as some call it), but that is not setting the bar very high.  THat is like saying Star wars Episode III is better than Episode 1.

This album will be on par with LOad and RE-load but not even as good as the Black Album.  And Hetfield gets fans hopes up while comparing it to Master of Puppets and JUstice for all.

IF you believe that then you are as dumb as those that believed Revenge of the Sith would be as good as The Empire Strikes Back.

I mean Metallica does not release a cd in like 5 years and when they do people act like it is Metals equivalent of the Second Coming.

"Metallica is BAck"  is kind of a misnomer considering they never went anywhere.  They sell out every show they play.

And the song Titled Unforgiven III was long a punchline to a bad joke and actually becomes a song, lol.

Wait ten years and we will get Unforgiven IV.

Come on dude... the Black Album was pretty damn good.

I'm seeing Metallica live on Monday.  Rock on bitches!

Metallica stopped being cool for me after the Napster thing.

Yeah, I hear ya Sean, but it was the early days of downloading and they just saw it as people stealing their music and earnings.  Downloading today is big business and part of the norm but back then it was different.  But yeah, Metallica and Lars in particular went down in my books too at that point.  But let's be bygones be bygones... I'm seeing them live tonight!

Napster was a great innovation in my mind. It should not have been strangled to death in the way it was. If anything, I believe it would have actually helped the music industry in the long run. Illegal smeagol. Of course the old infrastructure and establishment would have disappeared, and that's what they feared, but that's going to happen anyways. Intellectual property should not have a legal basis as strong as it is now.

What songs did they perform? Much new stuff?

Nah, they done 3 off the new album (all 3 were cool), but it was mainly oldies - Master of puppets, for who the bell tolls, Wherever I may roam, One… it was a good gig. They even played the title track from St Anger and it was ace (Hetfield made a joke about the album being much-loved).

My only complaint was the venue - it's such a soul-less, sterile, shopping mall sh1thole. It is the exact opposite of Rock n Roll, and seeing a band like Metallica there just doesn't work - venues like that are for people like Celine Dion.

I like the songs but the production is pure crap.

Sonic brickwall of compression/distortion.

Only way I can listen to the album is from the Guitar Hero 3 flac rips.
