Idea for the Walker red eye/window issue - instead of erasing the red from the outside or tinting the whole cockpit red on the inside...meet it halfway.

Tint just the window red on the inside.  Put some numbers, meters, gauges and such around the edges so that it becomes a red navigation/targeting/HUD type of display.  It's still a window, just with this red image/data being projected onto it.  If you really want to get picky, make a hint of red light spill on the AT-AT drivers in the wider cockpit shots where you can see them from the front.

ok. heres my reasoning why i will be erasing the red cockpit window from the AT-AT.

Its only in 1 shot and it is only 1 AT-AT that has this colour cockpit. to keep the red cockpit in the lead AT-AT i would have to either add a red display to the inside or some form of red lighting. this means that i have to do work on many shots , recolouring or adding FX that really don't need to be done. Why would i want to give myself more work to do by adding all this when i can just erase 1 red cockpit from 1 shot?

The red window will be going.

Ok,  I didn't realize it was just the one shot that had the red.

Hi there folks!

Watched the Empire Strikes Back GOUT last week and came up with a few suggestions which may be of interest/use. Apologies if they've been mentioned before, though I have done my best to check.

1) I was always slightly disturbed that upon Luke's crash he doesn't seem concerned with Dack (OK fair enough it may be obvious he's dead but...) and appears to just grab the grappling hook just before the walker mash! It might help this scene a tad if one of the "Daaackk!?" lines from the scene where Dack is shot is taken out, and then inserted as Luke is rummaging in the downed snow speeder, prior to jumping out the way in the nick of time. It would show Luke is double-checking if Dack is really a corpse, and add a bit of... I dunno... loyalty to one's co-pilot in this scene, rather than Luke just searching for the hook and that's all.

Sevb32, I just listened to the Radio Drama last week and it just has a Rebel tech announcing to Leia what he sees on the monitor like a play-by-play commentary.  Like: "Skywalker has been shot down, but he dives out of the way as the walker steps on his speeder!  Skywalker grapples up the bottom of a walker... AND IT'S DOWN!"  I'm not sure one of Luke's shouts would work though, as Luke already yelled and didn't get a response, so why would he still yell...  If I recall correctly, doesn't he check Dack, then grab the grappling hook after he sees the walker bearing down on him?

2) After the generator on Hoth is blown up, is it possible to make the lights dim momentarily in the corridor that Han is rushing through, to show the instant before the emergency lights kick in? Or perhaps if possible add a reddish tint to the corridor scenes to indicate emergency power?

This would be awesome.  I thought it was strange that they lost their generator but they still seem to have full power...

3) After the first walker is downed, notice the walker behind it - the head swings around in an EXTREMELY fake manner. Perhaps this could be slowed down or altered in some way? I think more laser fire from these walkers would also intensify the situation a little - like the near constant barrage of laser-fire in the Genosis fight in Episode II?

I love the barrage of laser fire on Geonosis, but it might be a little too much coming from just 5 or 6 walkers.  If there were troops on the ground also, yes, but not just from the walkers.

4) When Luke is trudging through the snow and then turns around to see the Falcon make her escape, the timing is slightly off as he follows her path. Is this fixable?

I believe Adywan said that he can fix that.

5) The Vader in the cave scene has always been pretty spooky, but I think it could be enhanced more. After the head has been severed and rolled to a stop, a nice scarey hissing sound of breath escaping the mouth would add to the atmosphere, as would some whisps of smoke from the neck stump, and curling out of the nostrals and mouth - reckon this would really ramp up the shocking nature of this scene, in the same way Adywan did to the severed arm in the Cantina scene in ANH-R. Maybe white out his eyeballs as well or have them sith-coloured?

Smoke would be awesome, but Sith eyes have already been discussed and shot down.

6) When one of the holographic images of a star destroyer captain meets his demise due to an asteroid strike, perhaps add a Wilheim scream as his image flickers out?...

LOL yes.  I'm always up for more Wilhem Screams.

7) There should be some kind of alarm noise in the background of the star destroyer scenes to indicate the high-alert/danger status of something that big flying through an asteroid field!!!

Maybe they silenced it, because that would get annoying after a few hours.

8) Backing up a tad, in the "doors must be closed" scene, you can see the doors closing behind Chewie just before they are meant to close! They then start again in the close up!!! Can these be 'frozen' somehow in this scene to correct continuity?

Yes, continuity.  I believe this has been pointed out, but it doesn't hurt to make sure.

Not necessarily.  The SHIELD generator got blown up.  POWER generators are something separate.  There's no reason to believe the two were physically connected.  Logically, they shouldn't be.

If the power generators failed and the shield generators were run by them, then the shield generators would turn off and the shield would be down.

Likewise the reverse - if the shield generators also provided power for everything else, then the whole base would go dark when the sheild generators were taken out.

By having the shield and power generators separate and independent, you're better off.  If the shield goes down, you've still got power to run your equipment.  And if power for the equipment goes down, then the shield is still protecting you while you work on restoring it.

That makes sense.  Maybe I was confused because Veers says "Prepare to target the main power generator"...

I think it would add to the drama of the shield generator being blown to have the lights dim slightly before the emergency power kicks in. Would just reinforce the fact the MAIN power generator has just bit the big one. Nothing ever works smoothly for the Rebels, in most cases they're surviving using old equipment cobbled together and kept working by the skin of their teeth. I doubt they'd be a smooth transition between main power and emergency, hence the lights dimming idea.

Hello all I've been following this board and the ANH:R for some time but finally decided to make an account and take part in all the fun.

With all that discussion a while ago about how to end the movie, I remember something from when I saw Empire Special Edition in the theater years ago.

Now it may just be a fuzzy memory to me or something but I can remember at the very end of Empire when all the Rebel ships are at the nebula at the end just before the credits, I can remember seeing them all jump to light speed just before the credits rolled.

I can remember being super excited when the films came out on VHS to see that again because it was what I liked the most out of the added material in the Special Editions. Then to my surprise it wasn’t there, and I haven’t heard anybody mention it ever again.

So it could be all in my head, but I still like the picture that I’ve created there. So maybe if Adywan could do that it be a nice bit to add to the ending.

Thanks again for your time in reading this everybody.

Oh, ok.  My fault.  Still, maybe an explosion that large might knock out main power, at least for a second.  My vote is still for lights flickering/dimming momentarily.  I wouldn't leave them off for the whole rest of the scene, as that would be too much work to have them constantly flickering or changed to red.  Besides, changing it to red would negate the color correction Ady is working on right now!

I still remember seeing Luke trip Vader with his lightsaber in ROTJ, but I know I couldn't have. Memory is a fickle mistress.

As for the generator, adding a power loss for a second would be cool, but then who's to say that there wasn't a separate generator dedicated solely to the shield. It certainly would be important enough for that to be the case.

Veers does refer to the "power generator" in a different line: "Distance to power generator?" I think the flicker/dimming/whatever is a good idea.

Is ther any plans to add singe marks to vader and luke during the duel? I speficcally mean when luke strikes Vader's arm and when luke loses his hand. Some glow can be added to the areas struck by the saber.

Hi, apologies if this has been mentioned, I try to keep up to date reading the forum, but it's getting so big...

I dislike Captain Needa's shuttle as he goes off to "apologise" to Vader. It looks like a TIE Bomber and the movement of the ship is jarring. Any chance of replacing it with an actual Imperial Shuttle Adywan? That would look bloody great dropping out of the Star Destroyer and heading off to Vaders ship.

Cheers!

Welcome nabakov - you'll be pleased to know that Adywan has previously mentioned he's considering changing Captain Needa's shuttle.  doubleofive has even done a couple of speculative 'mock-ups' on this thread.  See page 108.

Adywan's version will be about 10000000x better, this is just a cut and paste job of my own.

I always thought that during the Luke/Vader lightsaber battle on the Catwalk on Cloud City ("You are Beaten") that the railings, vaders shoulder bell, ect should have a glowing molten metal look in spots where the sabers hit them. This orange glow would look especially striking with the contrasts of the dark blues and greys in the shot.

Just me thinking out loud.

Adywan, you said you wanted to make these edits fit more in continuity of the prequels, wouldn't restoring Boba Fett's original voice contradict that statement? Because Boba's voice in the SE is closer to what it was in the prequels. Frankly, I think it was a really stupid idea to have "baby" Boba included in the prequels. The only reason why LFL did it is because he became a popular character. They had no intention expanding his character prior to his popularity. Just do what you want Adywan, do let the prequels dictate you.

You must be in your early forties if you saw ESB in theaters at 13. Do you have a wife and kids? It must be difficult juggling your job, kids, life and these restoration projects. Unless you have a job in the video software industry, you have to be a die hard SW nerd to be this dedicated to the movies. I think I read earlier you wore a Darth Vader costume to a party and at over 40 years old I think that answers my question. But not trying to sound rude here, keep up the good work. ;-)

Adywan, so you found ROTJ disappointing? How so? I thought it was just as good as the previous two, though I would rank it as the least in the trilogy.
