I didn't mean specifically you, Ady, but it may be easier that way... you can post comments and answers too that way...

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

Add this one to the list if you could.  It regards the destruction of the shield generators on Hoth.  I think it would be interesting to have a small delay before the sound reached us after the explosion.  It would make the explosion seem much larger.  Like the Pepcon explosion.

Ady, regarding the request of Yoda's facial expression, why not try out a sample scene just for the hell of it to see how it would work out. You could do a split screen and show the difference. It would be interesting to see how it would look. If the effect isn't distracting it just might work.

You know concerning all these requests to modify backgrounds, I mean really? I think thats proof of how perfect Empire REALLY is, Ady said it best, other than color correction and some FX tweaks (adding MORE Walkers for example) there isn't much to change on this one. I think its a testament to the sheer amount of effort that went into ESB, which of course Lucas himself said was "unecessary".

also, it just dawned on me for whatever reason, but Lucas adding Vader walking to his ship, thus lengthening out that scene, is really weird, being the longest running joke about him is the "Faster, more intense" line. Glad to see it removed ;)

Nice idea but i like the way it ends originally too much too so i won't be changing it.

Whew! ;)

It just doesn't match with the rest of the series! All of them end with a shot of the characters.

Author

except for ESB

I think it makes perfect sense it doesn't end the same way as the others as ESB ends with a cliffhanger, so you're not supposed to feel like "oh this is the end".

Well, actually it does end with a shot of the characters...except it's not a happy ending like the others are. This time they've been beaten and bloodied and have had to retreat, but the end shot shows they're still standing strong. The fact that one of them is missing reinforces that they have suffered a loss.

Rebels 1:1 Imperials, at that point in the saga. Without being SO predictable as every movie made ever since is.

I take it a little to heart when im called an (empire) fan boy, but its not a bad thing when i hear im not the only one.

Thats a special tallent when you can just play with ideas just to see how they look there Ady. How many people have the skill here just to do that in the first place?

So, what other ideas do you want to toy with then o' holy one(without giving the whole game away)?

No there again, forget i asked. Surprise me (if this was my thread i would have spilled my thoughts after page 3, so respect that you can keep the lid on your ideas thus far);-P

just completely different subject. i know you plan to add more ATATs to the hoth battle, will you have more wrecks lying around? and possibly a crashed rebel transport? just to illustrate the rebel destruction?

i liked the alternative ESB ending, but prefer the original one. great to see the debate!:)

I too am eager to see what concepts you come up with.  The Alderaan Destruction Concept is one of my favorite parts of ANHR and it didn't even make it in!

Adywan for the cockpits of the ATATs you talked about blacking out all the windows to make them match. Have you given any thought to takeing the one that looks like their is activity going on in the cockpit and makeing the others match it instead. The lead ATAT with the red cockpit window brings some life and scale to the walkers, looks like you cal see the drivers in their. The inside shots of the ATATs are not red tinted but that could be explained by their being some type of coiting on the windows, an inti glare shield or whatever we would like to imagine.

Hi there folks!

Watched the Empire Strikes Back GOUT last week and came up with a few suggestions which may be of interest/use. Apologies if they've been mentioned before, though I have done my best to check.

1) I was always slightly disturbed that upon Luke's crash he doesn't seem concerned with Dack (OK fair enough it may be obvious he's dead but...) and appears to just grab the grappling hook just before the walker mash! It might help this scene a tad if one of the "Daaackk!?" lines from the scene where Dack is shot is taken out, and then inserted as Luke is rummaging in the downed snow speeder, prior to jumping out the way in the nick of time. It would show Luke is double-checking if Dack is really a corpse, and add a bit of... I dunno... loyalty to one's co-pilot in this scene, rather than Luke just searching for the hook and that's all.

2) After the generator on Hoth is blown up, is it possible to make the lights dim momentarily in the corridor that Han is rushing through, to show the instant before the emergency lights kick in? Or perhaps if possible add a reddish tint to the corridor scenes to indicate emergency power?

3) After the first walker is downed, notice the walker behind it - the head swings around in an EXTREMELY fake manner. Perhaps this could be slowed down or altered in some way? I think more laser fire from these walkers would also intensify the situation a little - like the near constant barrage of laser-fire in the Genosis fight in Episode II?

4) When Luke is trudging through the snow and then turns around to see the Falcon make her escape, the timing is slightly off as he follows her path. Is this fixable?

5) The Vader in the cave scene has always been pretty spooky, but I think it could be enhanced more. After the head has been severed and rolled to a stop, a nice scarey hissing sound of breath escaping the mouth would add to the atmosphere, as would some whisps of smoke from the neck stump, and curling out of the nostrals and mouth - reckon this would really ramp up the shocking nature of this scene, in the same way Adywan did to the severed arm in the Cantina scene in ANH-R. Maybe white out his eyeballs as well or have them sith-coloured?

6) When one of the holographic images of a star destroyer captain meets his demise due to an asteroid strike, perhaps add a Wilheim scream as his image flickers out?...

7) There should be some kind of alarm noise in the background of the star destroyer scenes to indicate the high-alert/danger status of something that big flying through an asteroid field!!!

8) Backing up a tad, in the "doors must be closed" scene, you can see the doors closing behind Chewie just before they are meant to close! They then start again in the close up!!! Can these be 'frozen' somehow in this scene to correct continuity?

Hope some of this helps Adywan - cannae wait to see this edit :)

Cheers,

- 7FN

Oh, you're certainly not the only one around here. It has always been my favorite, too. (Star Wars is very, very close behind, though!) I find that I've always liked the same things about it no matter what my age is; the snow planet is great, the humor is excellent, the little touches like the space slug were fresh, the ion cannon was awesome, Vader's "hibernation chamber", the snowspeeders, the AT-ATs, the amazing portrayal of Yoda, etc, etc, etc...

I've also found that a lot of people liked Jedi the most when young (flashiness, Ewoks, etc...), then feel Empire is the strongest overall when older. For me, Empire was always king.

About the Dack part, I wonder if any of Hamill's dialogue from the ESB radio drama can be used? Like the ANH radio drama was used for ANH revisited?

Idea for the Walker red eye/window issue - instead of erasing the red from the outside or tinting the whole cockpit red on the inside...meet it halfway.

Tint just the window red on the inside.  Put some numbers, meters, gauges and such around the edges so that it becomes a red navigation/targeting/HUD type of display.  It's still a window, just with this red image/data being projected onto it.  If you really want to get picky, make a hint of red light spill on the AT-AT drivers in the wider cockpit shots where you can see them from the front.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.
