30th Anniversary Set? As in "to be released in 2009"?

Timed to be released with the J.J. Abrams movie perhaps?

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

I have a couple of questions

don't know if this belongs rather in fanfiltrations general thread if there is one.

When will forgotten thunderball ,and fanfiltration of the apes as well as star trek longer cut be released?

Well i guess that was three questions, LOL.

I love all your projects, i like the criterion banned bond set better than the lowry if you can believe that.

Mainly because the director approved those editions on laserdisc and not the dvd considering his passing.

Ditto his remark. Only problem I have with The Director's Edition is there's too much dirt and such to make it a good release. I could barely tell if there was film grain on the official DVD I'm assuming a soft filter was used for the lense on this feature.

Can't wait for this set and eventual remastered 1080p Blu-ray release. How was the HD broadcast though?

I barely ever post here, but I can't stay silent on this one: I am seriously looking forward to this movie!!

FanFiltration, let me add my voice to those encouraging you to keep that 2-second "smirk" clip in -- I think the previous suggestion of "overlapping" the footage from two sources is a fantastic and viable solution.  (Or, if the background is completely static, you could even loop it in from earlier in the same shot!)  Honestly, it would bug me to no end to know that I was watching a movie that was faithfully recreated except for ONE shot ... and if I had a choice between a movie with 2 seconds that I knew were missing, or 2 seconds that might have some slight weirdness in the background, I'd happily and instantly take the latter.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned that single shot where Kirk leaves the airlock, where you can clearly see the soundstage ... I'm hoping you just leave it alone, to be honest.  Even in the fullscreen version you can see soundstage on both sides, and it's always given me a laugh.  What are your plans for that shot?

Geez, all this talk of restoring other versions makes me think about my other favorite "lost Trek" movie ... the theatrical cut of Star Trek VI, without all that Scooby Doo stuff at the end.  Has anyone ever considered trying to re-create that?  It seems like it would be fairly simple, given the two versions out on DVD available to work with...

I guess the hardest part would be finding a source for the original theatrical cut, so you could tell what edits to make.  If it even exists, it would probably only be in the form of some poorly-shot bootleg taken by a video camera in the theater ... :p

Ah well.  In any event, keep up the great work, FanFiltration, and please keep us closet Trekkies updated on how things are progressing!  :-D

Has Shatners mid 90's book Star Trek memories and Star Trek movie memories been considered as extras? Well not the book themselves, but both books were released as books on tape, featuring Shatner reading. Perhaps the parts of the audio books that pertain to the film could be edited into a commentary type track?

The theatrical cut of TUC is already out there, and it's even in HD!

Really?  "Out there" available in stores, or "out there" fan-restoration?

Neither since the theatrical cut has never been available on home video least of all on dvd.

The one people think of as the theatrical actually has The Colonel West scene when he is killed disguised as a Kilngon.  This cut is on dvd but does not have the new crap added like the faces of the people being shown as Valeris says their names with Spock.

Yeah, that was the impression I was under as well -- two (slightly) different versions commercially available on DVD, both of them with the Col. West ending and neither one the true theatrical version.

Which brings me back to my original thought -- that if someone could dig up something like a crappy in-theater bootleg of the theatrical cut of ST6, it could be used as a map to rebuild the movie from the existing DVDs...

This is a Star Trek The Motion Picture thread? I understand you excitiment over a Star Trek 6 recut but can we keep this a Fanfiltraion TMP thread. Thanks.

Hey! How about a seperate thread? I would love discuss your idea.

Thanks

Btw!! Fanfiltraion, I can't wait for this MEGA SET to be done.

Of course, just let me clear this up: There are three versions of TUC:

The Theatrical Version

The Home Video/DVD Version - Including additional scenes

The Special Edition DVD Version - Including the same additional scenes plus a few re-edits

The HDTV version - The Theatrical Cut in HD (not officially released, but out there on the internet)

I don't want to turn this thread into a debate about TUC, so if you have further questions, feel free to PM me.

That being said, I can't wait for the SLV of TMP! It's my favorite version of the movie and I'd love to see it in widescreen!

Due to some health issues I was having I was forced to take some time off from working on my edit, but now I feel much better.  This set is back in the works, and should be done by this December. I hope.

Thank his good health and not "God"...

Any plans on using the 720p HD broadcast as a source? Not sure which cut it is but it might be the Theatrical, Director's Edition or Special Longer Version. Keep us updated and welcome back!

Yes, the HD broadcast is being used as one of the sources.

Comparing the DVD Directors Edition and the recent HD broadcast I have found that it has no real differences (IMHO). In fact on the HD (which seems poorer) the picture is slightly cropped and the colors are more saturated than others. I actually prefer the Directors Edition since they used the original film negatives (RESTORED and BAKED) for the trasnfer. The HD broadcast used a film copy, this has been noted. I am sure what ever Fanfiltration does will be fine either way. He knows what he is doing!

This is gonna be boss. I am still interested in what you are going to do with 83' extended tv broadcast of the needle injection scene with the Nurse/ Doctor and Checkov. Are you going to cut this scene out?

Earlier this year I had a European clip in widescreen from (so called widescreen broadcast of the TV version) a photo I sent you, we later compared the photo with the fullscreen and found that it was cropped footage much like the BTTF DVD release. So in the end this scene only exists in fullscreen.

Fanfiltration are you going to crop this footage or cut it all together? I am actually hopeing you crop it for reasons of that I don't want any scenes removed. if you are to have a true TV broadcast on widecreen to have this scene missing would be bummer for me. But I would live.

Thanks for the response.

I'm keeping an open mind about this shot at this point.  I'm doing a version with the shot removed and another with it cropped. We will run it for a few people and see how it plays.
