If ADYWAN decides to revisit all of the films, then I will definitely obtain those.  I just finished SW Episode IV: Revisited and it blew me away.  It's perfect.

I don't care one way or another about a CG Yoda in Ep 1, frankly I find all of Lucas's CGI characters look more artificial than the puppets through out the OT.

The point was the CG Yoda was PROMISED for the next box set, meaning there's still another one yet to come (though did we doubt that).

As far as an "Original" Blu Ray release of Phantom Menace, don't forget it's been airing on HBO and other outlets in HD world wide.

There are many rips of it floating around.  They will make an excellent sources for any future Blu Ray restoration projects should Lucas decide to mess with any of the prequels.

Why hasn't anyone done a DVD transfer of the TPM LD? I mean, you guy are all about preservation, right? Well, here's something that needs preserving!

I am 99.9% certain that somebody has done a TPM transfer, and that it is available on some peoples trade lists or through the appropriate channels. You don't hear about it much because it just isn't in that high of demand. I meant to get my hands on a copy long ago just to have it, but I never got around to it.

According to The Digital Bits, the upcoming trilogy box sets have NO NEW CONTENT.  They are simply repackaging the "limited edition" 2-disc versions.

I find your lack of pants disturbing.

I would want the theatrical versions of ALL six movies on a future blu-ray set, not just the OT. After all, I actually saw the prequels up on the big screen. I don't want the OOT or theatrical TPM stuck in laserdisc quality.

Author

Yet that fate is already sealed- the OOT will never move beyond LD quality. Thus it is better to just accept that it will be the best quality for the OOT we will ever get.

Why won't Lucasfilm give us more info on these? Why do they have to be such stubborn pricks?

Star Wars will never appear on Blu-Ray until GL has finished tinkering with the saga enough to allow them onto it. He's working on the IMAX'd versions of Star Wars, probably still has loads of 'ideas' to go back and destroy the original trilogy even more.

Steve Sansweet did make a comment at the Europe Celebration that Blu-Ray wasn't on the radar of Lucas yet and wouldn't be until it was firmly established as the media of choice. Until DVD dies, it won't happen anytime soon.

Well why doesn't Lucas film just put them on blu-ray now and that will probably help blu-ray be established as the media of choice. Most star wars fans would be willing to buy them again on blu-ray especially if the OOT is includedd with extra stuff. All these companies are afraid to adapt to a new media but they have to learn, you gotta get good movie/videosgames going on a media before people are willing to buy it. I would be willing to buy a blu-ray player if the OOT was on it and I think millions of other people would too.

Oh yeah that's right, he still wants to make Star Wars 3d for Imax.

Maybe he's saving the Blu-Ray box for a release to coincide with episode 7.  He said he won't make the final trilogy, which pretty much guarantees when he is greedy enough he will.

At which point some other "next generation" technology will be emerging to supplant Blu-Ray, and the whole waiting game starts all over again.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

When was anything of the sort promised?  I could be wrong, but all I remember is that a line of a dialogue from TPM featuring a CG Yoda appeared on a completely unrelated bonus feature on ROTS.  While I do believe that's strong reason to think that they did actually redo TPM with a CG Yoda and that future releases will have that change, has the situation ever been directly addressed by anyone from LFL?  Was anyone ever promised anything one way or another?

Incidentally, considering the ROTS DVD was released nearly three years ago, one would think that this fabled new CG Yoda footage would have been released by now.  The fact that they're still pushing the same DVD if such a monumental change had been worked on (or possibly even completed) three years ago seems strange to me.  It's possible that they only tinkered with that for fun.  It's not out of the realm of possibility since they went to the trouble to make that dancing Yoda feature an easter egg on the very same DVD.  I don't know.  Maybe they're saving it for that 3D IMAX experience or whatever...

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I was going to check on the quote for the CGI EpI Yoda, but then I remembered I sold my prequel discs last year.  All I remember was that there was talk of the possibility of releasing the footage.  I don't think a box set was mentioned.

Really?  Because I remember the image of the CG Yoda being in a featurette about Anakin.  The snippet in question was Yoda's, "Fear leads to anger..."  And it was presented without question, without any reference to it being any different than what we were used to.  Maybe there was some other reference to it that I forgot about, but I could have sworn it was just that one innocuous glimpse that got the fan community talking and speculating.

I never heard any legitimate talk of re-releasing TPM with a CG rendered Yoda - ONLY speculation. The shot in question was a test by the animators to basically get warmed up for EP3 - IIRC they didn't have the script yet and so used TPM as a base to Work on some scenes, Much like they used scenes of Yoda in empire initially before AOTC. I could b e wrong but that is my recollection...

You are right, JR, but one of us actually has to have the disc around to actually see what they say.  Anyone?

Author
Time

They don't actually say a word about it on any of the discs to my knowledge. There's just that one glimpse as Gaffer Tape said.

I can't find the article, but I read that ILM redid the Yoda shots in TPM to get back into practice for doing RotS.  I found a video on YouTube that inserts the few seconds of CGI Yoda into the existing scene.  And I have to say seeing them side by side only reinforces the fact that the puppet they made for TPM is messed up in every regard.

Star Wars Saga Repacked in Trilogy Sets on DVD

August 28, 2008

Returning to store shelves on November 4th are the six episodes of the Star Wars saga on DVD bundled in convenient trilogy sets. Perfect for gift-giving as the holidays approach, the Prequel Trilogy set includes Episodes I-III, while the Star Wars Trilogy includes Episodes IV-VI.

Fans who already own the prequel trilogy double-disc releases (released from 2001-2005) and the Star Wars trilogy double-disc releases (released in 2006) already have all the content that's available in this set. There's nothing new in this set you don't already have. But for friends and family still looking to fill in these gaps in their DVD collections, these sets make it easy and affordable to complete the saga.

That would be it. Sorry I don't have any points to award, maybe I should have asked that question in the Trivial Pursuit thread ;)

That is nice, they match but they don't even match. Hopefully the actual product isn't like that, if it is I am afraid it might lead some to believe that LFL doesn't take the quality of their products seriously...

The only question I have left about this is whether they reused the cover art from the previous releases of each, or if we are going to be treated to something new that they had some employee throw together in Photoshop.

This is really, really hilarious, but I still stand by my theory that this offers us even more hope than it did two years ago.  Folks, we are now seeing the OOT T W I C E in 2 years when Luca$ once said that we would never see it at all, and then in '06 "Okay maybe this time, but this is it!"  The word is even out this time around to consumers to basically skip this unless you are really, really clueless and own nothing as of yet.  Luca$ has absolutely no choice the next time around but to offer something really special.

Through all of this crap, this is good news!!!!

I agree.

Yeah, at least that's two releases in a row that haven't tried to pretend the OOT didn't exist. The newest SW release in every store will contain the OOT (such as it is). I guess it's better than another SE-ONLY release.
