Maybe the project should be scaled down to just do the 100+ shots from the original that are no longer in the movie? Or is it too far along for that? (just curious, I haven't read the whole thread.)

Wow, quoting yourself beating a dead horse. It's like some sort of temporal paradox. I'm being ripped out of...this......dimension! *pop*
VBangle, your post was unneeded. Really. Whether we're lost causes or not, don't rain on our parades.

Hmm, that was weird timing. Anyway, you don't really want to become the Josh (no offense, Josh) of this thread, do you, vbangle? Heh.
Stop fucking posting in this thread. Let it die. For god sake you stupid fags just let it die.
HARMY RULES
Whoa, whoa, whoa... You call us 'fags' and not expect at least one more post? Knock it off.

I got to agree with Rob on this one. Well, maybe not with the same intensity....
I would love to see this project come to fruition, but all of the asking "Are we there yet?" isn't gonna get this done any faster. Let it be.
I just love this project, all the pictures and video clips, the information, The XØ Project website, and all the forum entertainment. But as the project seems to have stalled for a year (or is it two?), does The XØ Project team plan to:
(1) lock the thread and disappear?
(2) pick up the pieces and continue work?
(3) proclaim the project complete as is?
(4) [fill in the blank]?
Anyone with knowledge feel free to chime in, but this is really a question to Zion, Laserman, MeBeJedi, and others (?) of The XØ Project.
Also, in any case, do you (The XØ Project team) have plans to fully detail your work and techniques for the rest of us to apply to our own projects (or for the forum's archive of knowledge)?

vbangle, would you shut the fuck up? This is a project a lot of us were very eager to see and believed (as I still do) to be absolutely necessary and highly important. If it truly is gone, we've lost the last best chance of getting a truly great quality OOT. All people want to know is what's going to happen. And you keep being an ass about it, and it's really starting to piss me off. If you really think we're beating a dead horse, then ignore it and stay the hell out of this thread because you have no business posting in it anymore.
While I mourn the (apparent) loss of this great preservation project, I think that, at this point, it is almost unnecessary. Should PaulIsDead finish his Vintage Editions of ANH and RotJ (and redo ESB with an HD source), then, barring an astounding change of heart on Lucas' part, those projects will become the archival versions of the OOT. Even the best LD cleanup won't be able to compare. While I can't believe I'm saying this, I agree with the gay guy. Let's just let this thread be.
I disagree with your technical assessment. While the Vintage Editions do indeed look cool, the problem is (and always has been for Star Wars fans) where will he get the needed unaltered Star Wars video to replace the stupid SE scenes that need to be removed?
Right now, the best source we have is the official 2006 Star Wars unaltered trilogy DVD set (GOUT), but the pictures from X0 Project clearly show the level of detail in the X0 captured scenes is superior to the GOUT. So if the X0 Project is completed, not only would it provide the highest quality unaltered set of the Star Wars trilogy yet seen on home video, it would also provide efforts like the Vintage Edition with higher quality video to replace the SE scenes with. So the X0 project is very important, indeed! :)
The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.
Exactly. Not to mention, I'm against using the scenes from the original to replace the SE scenes while keeping the "unaltered" scenes from the SE, and here's why:
1) I'd rather have consistent quality throughout, even if it's not 100% up to modern standards, than a patchwork of "Hey! That looks like it was shot yesterday!" switching to "Whoa ... that looks ugly compared to the last shot!"
2) No amount of color correction or even Adywan's color-masking-layering process for "Revisited" can fix the 04 SE to contain the same color information that is present in the laserdisc masters. Look at the ESB Star Destroyer scenes - in some shots it looks like the entire scene was rendered in B&W with a blue filter put over it to hide that fact.
3) There are many subtle 97/04 alterations (R2-D2's space coloring, garbage mattes, subtle effects "fixes") that could easily go unnoticed in such a "patchwork" project. As a purist, I believe that everything, even effects gaffes, should be preserved, and for most the temptation would be too great to, say, leave in the 04 edition's Rancor recomposite instead of replacing it with the 83 effects.
4) The grain issue. The grain reduction on the 04 DVDs was taken to an extreme that lost some visual information as well as make the image look too "plastic"-like to me. Plus, the GOUT/93 laserdiscs' DVNR smearing wouldn't mix with the 04 DVDs well, along with the fact that there seems to be excessive grain on the 93 LD/GOUT (probably from using a source at least 2-3 generations away from the negative). (That one kind of goes hand-in-hand with #1, but whatever)
So yes, the X0 project is, indeed, very important to many people here, especially the "purists" like me. I enjoy Adywan's "Revisited" very much, but there's a reason I bought the expensive "Blade Runner" boxset - while I'll watch the Final Cut, I still feel the previous ones must be preserved, and I will watch them from time-to-time.
As of right now, my perfect "Star Wars" set would be a 2-disc edition for each film, with disc 1 being Adywan's "Revisited" and disc 2 being an X0 Project-sourced preservation of the theatrical version of the film (splicing in the GOUT's original crawl for SW, adding the mono and original stereo mixes, and converting to anamorphic WS).
Sorry for the unnecessarily long post - I just feel it's important for people to understand why this project is so important to some of us, even with all the "vingage edits" or "revisits" in the world.
Gotta agree with ChainsawAsh, on both of his posts. However, others who say to let it die do have a point. Maybe we should let the thread lie, until someone decides to pop in...

Don't want to bump this thread again (I hate seeing it at the top of the page, only to find out that no new info has been posted), but I just wanted to say, ChainsawAsh, that your post reflected my sentiments exactly. I was so looking forward to having both Adywan's and the X0 Project's edits to put on my shelf. Too bad it only partly came to fruition.

x 2.
It would be great if one of the project members could give us some sort of update. There's obviously still supporters of the project who'd like to see it completed. Also, any word from Laserman? Am I correct in assuming that whatever problem he was dealing with was health related and quite serious (i.e., life threatening)?

The guy with a picture of Steve Guttenberg is calling us fags? Now that's comedy.

The only question I have is do the members of the team intend to pick up work again? And I thought Laserman was getting better, or am I just making things up.. if so, I am sorry.
Cal, do you even READ our posts before you make fun of us with lolcats? As awesome as they are, it does get old.

Don't tell me this thread is so dead that it has become another LOLCats thread. If it really is a dead thread why keep bringing it back?
That is not just beating a dead horse, we are already past the beating the dead horse skeleton. What is left just ashes. LOL
Originally posted by me in shear frustration from there being no update in years to the X0 site, and in response to lolcats.
Only to have that animated gif of the horse being beaten.

Can't be any older than, "Hey, how's Laserman doing? Any updates?" for two straight years.
Anywho, it's all in fun... Have one more then I'll quit until popular demand...
