Yeah, the idea of a BF extended cut have intrigued me since reading about what could have been from BOF, has this cut ever been uploaded?

I really want to see this cut.

Has anyone seen Batman Forever: Red Book Edition and is able to compare/review? From what I've read, seems like the Dark Knight edition cuts out more of the Riddler.

I wrote Mike Nichols, AKA The Phantom Editor in an attempt to maybe connect him to the Dark Knight Edition, or pick his brain for any info he might have on the subject. He wrote me back just today:

"Well, first... nope didn't do the Batman edit. Second, the whole "fan edit" thing is something I wasn't very comfortable with. In the beginning, the reason it seemed to get such mileage was in fact to do with art side of editing and not the EDIT OUT WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE or DO LIKE. See that part kind of lacks a discipline and is more about the ACT of doing it versus the ART. Like a coach can be a fan of baseball but SHOULD not make descisions based on being a fan of the TEAM/PLAYERS or his judgement will be impaired, the FAN EDIT term is basically kind of meaning that at least globally I feel... so how kind it is you refer to me as the author of "fan editing" to me it always highlights the "act of" instead of the "affect of" the edits. Make sense?

Look, SanDiego comicon would be a great place to get the batman edit. Honestly, I'll ask some folks if it can be gotten and point you in the right direction. It sounds like a really impressive and thoughtfilled endeavor. Curiously though, take a second and reflect on the Joel Shusucker versions and take a pencil and mark down everytime you are watching it, that your are taken out of the movie. A false moment that feels forced or fake... a joke that shouldn't be there... and I'll point out that they began editing batman forever on a AVID editing system where they viewed each cut on a small computer screen which allows your brain MORE time to register what's going on. With that in mind, the editors tended to cut each scene to take place faster and when the edits appeared on a big screen, the intent sometimes became unregistered to the audience. It took me out of the movie a lot when I saw it and on my virtual notepad I made note of it. On a small DVD screen it won't be as much of an issue of course... but make you notes... thoughts.... and when you see the DARK KNIGHT edition see the AFFECTS of the these edits vs the original and FEEL the affects instead of merely looking for what is different. Hopefully you will find it satisfying and educational.

Again, if I find one I'll point you in the right direction...

M"

So...it sounds like he might actually look into it a little bit, so this (for those who "believe") might be a big step.

...Also, anybody going to San Diego?

Am I crazy, or does he sound like he's saying, "I edit and make art...all the other guys just edit because they can."?

Sounds a bit like an egomaniacal elitist to me. His edit cannot be termed a "fan edit" because he's above and beyond that term. He says fans cannot be objective, but yet he edited his dislikes out of the movie. Likes and dislikes are opinion! What works to one will not another! Whether art is good or not is also a matter of opinion!

So, no one has been able to track this down yet?

There's this over at fanedit.org, don't know if it's the same one this thread talks about though.

i think what the phantom editor was trying to say was he is a professional editor who works in the industry and not some random fan recutting a movie on their computer in their parents basement.

Sounds elitest, indeed it does.

Someone oughta pick it up.  Not promoting bootlegging, but if that could get picked up via ebay and distributed it might be for the better.

Ziz - Looks like that's a different fan edit than the one available on eBay.

Mitch - I hope you get it.  I've been looking forward to this one for a long time!

From what I understand. The Dark Knight Edition did not have 30mins removed.

The original posting stated that the edit was 125mins, How could it have had 30mins removed?

Batman:The Dark Knight has 30 mins removed from what I understand.

I'm pretty sure the ebay auction is Batman:The Dark Knight. With the guy selling it either not knowing the difference between the two, or trying to take advantage of people.

Come to think of it, I've always liked Paulisdead's edits.  Can anyone comment on that one?

There do seem to be some similarities between the description of Paulisdead's The Dark Knight, and the DVD listed on eBay - such as the change in the film's colouring/lighting.  However, from the description on fanedit.org, Paulisdead's edit opens at Wayne Enterprises, whereas the edit on eBay claims to have a "new opening" - which is Two-Face's escape from Arkham Asylum - along with other deleted scenes reinserted.  I haven't seen Paulisdead's edit, so I can't comment for certain on whether or not it has any deleted scenes reinserted, but from it's description on fanedit.org, there doesn't seem to be any.

I have yet so have seen paulisdead's Year One edit of Batman Begins. Which he released an HD version of. I don't know how though since the blu ray just came out unless there was an HD-DVD release previously.

I wonder if he thinks that Nolan's Dark Knight is perfect or if he is going to do a fan edit of that.

Maybe if they release a second dvd with more deleted scenes of Heath as the Joker they can be reinstated to the film.
