Nothing about the 1980 version of Empire Strikes Back sucked. It was a seminal moment in film history where everything came together in the end in complete narrative and aesthetic synergy. There are only a handful of films that can boast such perfection (e.g. Lawrence of Arabia) At the end of the day, were there a proper anamorphic DVD transfer of this original 1980 version, there would be no need for Adywan to even work on this film. As it is however, sadly, there is no proper DVD and hence Adywan must take a not-so-special edition and make it special so we can have something that is presentable on a modern home theater.

i'm sorry, but ESB was a let down for me when i saw it, i wanted to know what happened right after star wars, and it jumped ahead without filling in all the gaps... i also felt let down that it was the middle third part [i wasn't too fanatical to read that there was a plan for the third film], and didn't feel conclusive at all.... what if 'jedi' had never been made? then what? there were narrative leaps, and plot subpoints that didn't click for me ...

yes, i liked seeing obi-wan again, yes yoda was cool....and the further depth into talk about the force was intriguing...and of course the familial revelation furthered the story into areas we could not have imagined..

perfection? i don't think so, far from it....there were plenty of other films that in my opinion could outdo this film...... ok, let's look at your viewpoint, let's say there is a 'good' print of this version on DVD (and by the way, the HD versions of the SE look awesome to me on 'modern day home theater', so i'm not worried about that aspect of it)..... adywan would STILL be working on it....and why not, it hasn't stopped anyone from using laserdisc rips or subsequent DVD rips of OOT as a starting point, so i'm not sure what you even mean there.... fan-edits will exist no matter what exists..

Whether you like the prequels or not, I believe it is very shortsighted to declare that simply because something is 28 years old means it must be updated and changed. At its very essence, Empire Strikes Back is THE ONE AND ONLY Star Wars film that did work seamlessly right out of the gate. The film was the product of a courageous script, brilliantly directed and produced with groundbreaking effort and convention-breaking choices.

NO IT IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS...only the FIRST ONE WORKS seamlessly.. this film had a decent script, average direction, and there wasn't one thing that i can look back at today, and go, wow that was impressive... not the battles, star wars outdid it, not the light saber battle, it had been done before... not the revelation of force powers, once again star wars preceded it.... what exactly did you think worked so 'seamlessly'???

i didn't mind the SE changes,and i still don't mind them..

i'm curious..

Star Wars, while a narrative success certainly, suffered from the compromised budget that left many of its optical effects lagging far short of intentions (which Ady has now admirably corrected). Return of the Jedi was always only one-third the movie it was originally intended to be, and the special edition only complicated the matter.

Star Wars suffered from NOTHING ... it WAS PERFECTION, and it STILL IS.. i don't mind adywans corrections, but that's all they are, just a fanedit, they are not conclusive, or definitive... they're not from Lucas.. the original is the ONLY version that exists to me (ie: star wars, and ok, ep IV crawl)..as the definitive reference...

Phantom Menace was a racehorse that tripped out of the gate and limped around the track. Attack of the Clones was, aside from 10 minutes in the middle, an insipid intelligence-insulting love farce. Revenge of the Sith was, in many ways, the most troubled and negligent film of them all - the one without any excuses and yet even after almost six hours of time in previous films to tell the story of Anakin Skywalker, the creators waited until the last 20 minutes of Sith to finally get around to the essential story in a series of truncated scenes tacked on to the end in wipes while blatantly ignoring major sections of established continuity and throwing those to the wind.

phantom menace was average, attack of the clones was decent, and revenge of the sith

was excellent to me, right up there with empire, and in my eyes will surpass it......

The Empire Strikes Back is the only film without either fatal narrative flaws or compromising technical errors. It is "Star Wars" fully realized and the way it was originally intended, no matter what revisionist history you believe. So, if spaceship interiors a movie make, then have at it. For me, there's nothing wrong with the ship interiors, they look amazing - and probably because like every other single element of Empire Strikes Back, they all service the story and not the other way around.

no, Empire was very good, but it too had flaws that you aren't willing to acknowlege, or even admit otherwise, you wouldn't be here commenting in a thread about it, if you are so against any changes, why would you care that someone is making them? obviously you didn't care for the SE changes either..

Ady, my apologies for waxing poetic about this in your thread. Feel free to delete at your leisure if this offends you.

i thought this board was about open discussions, different viewpoints, and alternate ideas..

i'd be very disappointed if any opposing thought or opinions were deleted..
