I agree with Puggo. I've never seen the new E.T., but the new Star Trek stuff has never done anything but annoy me. It just really gets on my nerves that people just can't leave these things alone. But, as far as I can see, it really has nothing to do with fixing things or creating new masters or making things look better. If the new Clone Wars movie has taught me anything, it's that franchises only exist to keep themselves alive as long as they possibly can. We are never going to stop seeing new Star Trek or new Star Wars products because if they didn't keep making new products, the franchises would run out of money and die. Eventually, fans are going to become disenchanted with this never-ending cycle of new movies/TV series. So what do they do? Re-release the old stuff... with new stuff in it. Then certain older fans will come out of the woodwork because they're nostalgic for what they grew up with... but the new visual effects will warrant a new purchase.
And that's what all this so-called remastering is all about.
