I thought he had mentioned doing ANHR in HD on the ESBR thread any know for sure.

He had mentioned something about it being very cold in Hell before that happened, but halfway through his color correction only of the HD broadcast he hinted that it might happen.  I don't know how, Adywan used the GOUT too often to make it possible.  Erasing the Ronto from walking in front of the landspeeder required several layers of the GOUT that wouldn't scale to 1080p very well.  He'd also have to redo ALL of his CGI in HD, including all of the Rebel tactical readout as they watch the Battle of Yavin and the TIE approach...

He would basically be starting from scratch, having to recreate every single shot again.  I'm not discouraging him from doing it, its just that I wouldn't hope too much on it appearing out of nowhere.  It would be another two years of work.

Thank's Doublefive I actually enjoy ANHR more than ESB in it's presant state but when ESBR is done in  HD WOW. Time will tell about ANHR in HD I hope it happens but I am not the one with the know how, I only have support to offer so wishing that amount of time and work onto someone is alot to ask.

my point is, if you're going to show off something in High Definition on a TV made

for that purpose, it's better to show them something from a High Definition source,

and compare it to regular TV....

Adywan said he has no plans to redo ANHR in HD at this time after all the trouble it took to get the current version out there. There will be the colour corrected HD version of the SE of course, but HD or not, it's more fun to show off  the Revisited version.

I think teharri's point was that he was trying to spread awareness about 'Revisited.' It didn't sound like he was specifically trying to use it to sell HDTV's.

i think we both are trying to address 2 different issues:

1) i was not implying that terrahi was trying to sell tvs using this release,

i was trying to point out that it is better to use something that is HighDef for HDTV's...

regardless of whether it sells them or not.......(even though he is a salesman)

2) i never implied there was, or ever will be a HD version of ANHR........but it is my opinion,

the HD corrected version that is coming out from Adywan shortly is more impressive to

me.................... since i've just gotten into HD recently (with a widescreen TV), so even

though ANH:R is fun, (i would  have enjoyed the purist version more in HD )......

it doesn't captivate me as much as the upcoming HD release will..

but to each their own...

Looks like Adywan's work is starting to attract media interest :

Also, our friend Mojo, who works on special effects for Battlestar Galactica, has written a non-spoilery review of the new CG Star Wars: The Clone Wars film on his blog. It's worth checking out if you're interested. As for me, I have less than zero interest left in the franchise... though I'll confess, I have recently had a bit of fun with a little something called Star Wars: Revisited (the "purist" version, of course), which reminded me for a time why I liked the original film so much. My thanks, Adywan. Look it up, kids"

Well done Adywan!!!!!!! :)

Just gave away my last PIF spot, guys - someone else is going to have to take my place.  That Digital Bits story went up and BAM! five requests in my inbox by the 18th.

So if anyone I sent discs to has the ability, please Pay It Forward if it is at all possible - I'm sure there'll be plenty more people wanting to get their hands on this in the near future.

When ESB:R comes around, I'll PIF that as well, but for now, I've reached my limit (and run out of blank discs!)

I feel bad, but my burning hardware is still faulty, and I have no way of contributing to the PIF. I attempted to make up for it by passing on copies of other edits, but I have yet to complete my Adywan DVD-9 PIF dues.

Hello All

I found the Revisited Trailer on youtube last week and have since tracked down this site, downloaded the XVID and DVD-5 and read all 256 pages of this thread!  This is one of the most amazing achievements I have ever seen!

Unfortunately I do not have a DL burner so I wouldn't be able to watch the DVD-9.  However, I really would like to see the special features from the DVD-9, especially the "making of" where Adywan explains how he made his masterpiece.  Is there a place where one can download the special features without having to download the entire DVD-9?

Thanks,

porkins

Welcome to the fold, Porkins!  Although there is no "making of" like you describe, there is a multi-angle view comparing a scene from the 2004 DVD, the unaltered DVD, Ady's foreground elements, Ady's background elements, and Ady's full Revisited.  It's pretty neat to see all the work he put into just those few minutes.  Another neat look is the Visual Comparison I have posted in my signature, which goes through every visual change in the movie with some text commentary.  Ady did not make an audio commentary or full making of feature, though we begged him to do so.

The DVD-9 is worth it for the the multi-angle thing I already described, and some deleted scenes and concepts, along with a higher quality film in general (with a couple changes from the DVD-5 you can find here).  I would suggest finding a friend with a dual layer burner, or you could download daemontools, which lets you mount iso files as virtual DVDs on your computer.  Then you could watch the DVD-9 on your computer without burning anything!  It's pretty neat.

Where are you , porkins?  If you're in the US, PM me and I'll send you a DVD-9.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Thank you for your offer Ziz but I don't want to trouble you.  I may do as doubleofive recommended, and download the dvd-9 and then use a program to mount the iso.  I might even be able to rip the parts I want right from there.

You could also use DVD Shrink to shrink the DVD-9 down to DVD-5. Then you could burn it and watch it on your TV.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

you could use software like handbrake or mpeg streamclip to rip the dvd into a video file, dvd shrink on PC or dvdone2x on Mac to shrink it to a DVD5 or daemontools on PC or Disk image mounter (already installed) on mac in order to mount the image and watch it on your pc.

Hello everyone: I wanted to thak Adywan and all who made this edition, it is great. There are only 3 things I don't like: 1) the torture droid's laser effect, lightning was ok but at the end it looks like a saber. 2)The hard subtitles when greedo speaks. and 3) I miss the way Obi Wan ignited his lightsaber. I don't want to fight I'm just shearing my personal opinion. :) Aside from that, this is the best episode 4 edition ever, thank's a lot again for all the efort and time dedicated from all who are involved in this production. Thank you very very much.

I agree about the torture droid and the lightsaber, but hey, there's so much I didn't like about the movie before that's been fixed now, it seems trivial to argue about TWO things I don't like in comparison to, say, 15.  I, for one, prefer hard subs for scenes like Greedo's.

Hello all,

I am new here. I found this site thanks to this thread. I am blown away that someone pulled this off!

I need to see this, and cannot locate a DVD9 anywhere on the net. Is there someone who can burn dual layer and send me one? I will compensate you via paypal for your time.

Again, to the creator, wonderful job. Someone mail this to Lucas!

where exactly are you looking?

the first thing if you do search on this thread is how to get it.

go to : http://fanedit.org/517/

all the links are right there, and there are several links to the torrents

on : the piratebay, mininova, demonoid

if you have newsgroup access to : alt.binary.starwars

it is there also...

it's hard NOT to find it...

and NO it will never be mailed to Lucas otherwise there would be legal issues,

so don't suggest it.

I have been dying to see this edit for a while and I have tried a number of ways to get it with no luck.

I can't use the torrent b/c I only have dial up and it would destroy my computer

Would any one be so kind as to send me a copy.  I would compensate in any way needed (if that is allowen).

I would also be willing to burn copies and send out to others

pm me if you think you can help

thanks

Let me get the obligatory THIS IS THE GREATEST THING EVER! out of the way. Because seriously, adywan, this cut of A New Hope is revelatory. It made me feel the way I felt when I was 8 years old, watching a VHS copy of Star Wars about 2 feet from the TV. I'm really impressed with your efforts. However, I have one complaint that I can't help but bring up!

Why didn't you do something about the two fellas standing inside the shaft of the death star's beam? I've always found those guys perched on that tiny ledge, shielding their faces, to be the silliest thing in the entire saga. (I think Family Guy or Robot Chicken even did a bit about this.) I mean, this beam destroys PLANETS and they're just standing out there. I hope they at least had good health insurance.

Did you ever consider putting some kind of CG booth around them? Like a two-foot wall and then thick glass to the ceiling. Or what about removing them altogether? I know you probably won't revist ANH Revisted (lol) just to fix this one thing, but I'm curious if it was ever considered.

Anyway, great job altogether, thanks again, and I wait impatiently for Empire Strikes Back!

I haven't visited this thread in a while. Read over at the empire revisited thread that Ady is working on a HD version of A New Hope Revisited. Ady, I thought you were officially done with EPIV after the DVD9 release?

Adywan, I noticed in your episode IV revisited, the scene where we see the millenium falcon leaving tatoonie, you changed the cordination of the Star Destroyers when we see two of them heading towards the millenium falcon. I'm not crazy about that change. I liked the formation of the Star Destroyers in the original shot better, they fit the music better.
