Wow, I didn't think Lucasfilm would be making another set so soon. They really shot themselves in the foot the way they kept releasing different box sets of the same versions after the '04 DVDs. They should've just learned from their mistake from the '04 DVDs, skipped the '05 and '06 sets and made a really bitchin' blu-ray set for the '07 Christmas season to celebrate the 30th anniversary of star wars.

I have a bad feeling looking at that box set. They didn't use the old school logos of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi on the outer box. I always loved those logos. Lucasfilm has never used them again since the '95 VHS release if I'm not mistaken. The new logos that just have the title of the movies printed in times new roman on top of the episode number in roman numerals is so boring to me.

It would be nice if they would have anamorphic WIDESCREEN pre ANH Versions of the movies in good quality. That would the only reason to buy them.. hopeful.. IF they have anamorphic WS pre ANH Versions... that they will be released in Germany..

but.. on the other hand:

I own the first 4 DVD Box of the original Trilogy.. AND each as limited Edition.. It would be hard to buy another Edition..

chances of releasing the OOT in anamorphic widescreen- 1:20000

That's my only hope for buying this boxset

Not only anamorphic widescreen, but also including a wealth of vintage documentaries, behind the scenes footage, deleted scenes, etc, and a menu system that captures the OT that isn't so immature and kiddish like the '04 DVDs.

Well, even though it's most likely just a repackage of the shitty 2006 discs, look at it this way: the original versions have now been widely released TWICE, so much for the whole Integrity of Lucas' Vision BS holding things up, at least that's been put to rest.

That's what I don't understand.

I thought the Original Versions included in that 2 disc set was supposed to be limited edition??

Are these going to be in Blu-ray also? If Lucasfilm just reuses the shoddy '04 version than I can't see this new OT set selling well. Lucasfilm knows better than that. There has got to be new stuff included in the OT set from what we saw in the '04 DVDs set.

This is really, REALLY starting to feel like an abusive relationship.

Blu-ray?  Not a chance in hell.

If the second disc is higher-quality GOUT, then I'm all for it.  I don't even HAVE a HD tv yet, so I'm set.

Otherwise, I'll pass.

I am wondering if this is false cause I don't see it on www.dvdempire.com as they always have the latest releases up for pre-order, plus I just don't see Lucas ever putting out an OT & PT boxset ever again.  I believe for the rest of the way, SW  movies will be packaged as 1 saga set.  This could be a fake guys.

If this is true, this is the one time I will actually defend Lucas, cause all the companies re-package and re-release stuff.  I can't tell how many Rocky Box Sets they have out, as there has to be atleast 5 boxsets since the inception of DVD.

Limited to as many as they can sell before they stop turning a profit on them.

It's funny how the contents of the prequel discs are SO detailed and specific in this press info, but the originals are all cryptic. I think we're being teased by Lucasfilm. Or antagonized.

My local Fry's still has a ton of the most recent sets gathering dust, and WalMart is selling them for $13 bucks a pop as part of their Clone Wars promo.

Unless this has the original trilogy unmolested and anamorphic remastered, i won't budge on giving Lucas another dime of my money. I still stand by my decision not to feed the bearded ones greed.

And a box set of the prequels with even more bonus material are you fucking serious!

I want my money back just for seeing them in theaters, so hell no, i will not be buying that.

Greedo shot first, i mean greedy Georgie wants all your money $$$$$$$ LOL!

His money bin must be not full enough of green he needs the tfn gushers to sell him their souls as well as give him all their money.

They gave clone wars good reviews when the whole world gave it bad reviews.

Sorry but i won't be buying any of the merchandise or tuning in to the cartoon network which has lots of shit low budget fare.  I also won't watch the live action show, since George has proven he can no longer tell a good story without whoring his cgi wares.

If this is all true, I think we will FINALLY be getting an anamorphic OOT here, folks, as the big fat well that is Lucas is merely a trickle now.  No matter how fancy they make these, no matter how many extras they included w/ the PT discs, MANY people around the globe have these movies 3-10 times over now.  Charging $50 a pop (if the price above is accurate of course) for the same darn thing again is not going to go over well.  Remember, we are living in much different times and in a much different economy, and people need to be uber-smart with their purchases and financial decisions.  If these movies are the same crap all over again, I doubt many people will be picking these up at the expense of other important things in their life.

If there is an anamorphic transfer of the OOT, who wants to take bets on how many more of the OOT sets they sell over the PT? ;)

And I won't be buying the PT set no matter what they include.  I couldn't bring myself to watch EPII AOTC one more time, my copy of EPIII ROTS w/ its extra disc is just fine, and EPI TPM I have on VHS and will probably upgrade it to DVD one day when I find a used copy for a few bucks...

I know the odds aren't good. But I'm still hoping against hope that this release will have the theatrical versions, at LEAST.

Think about it, if the theatrical cuts are included on this release, even if it's exactly the same as the 2006 discs, it's a sign that Lucas is ready to stop ignoring the OOT's existance. The fact that the OT discs are so mysterious as to their extra content gives me hope. Because it doesn't explicitly deny the possibility.

All I want is an anamorphic and restored OOT, and my problems with Lucas will evaporate. I like the prequels for their moments and some of the SE additions, I do like. But I cannot endorse them until the OOT gets near-or-equal treatment along with the PT and the SEs. The OOT doesn't have to be as cleaned up as the 04 SEs, I wouldn't want that. But I want anamorphic picture and a restoration equal to that of any good, modern DVD transfer.

He already proved he's willing to release them. The next step up won't hurt him one damn bit. I really hope he's decided to learn from what Ridley Scott did with Blade Runner most recently. Please all parties; include all cuts of the films.

I can live with 80% of the SE additions. I even like the PT (overall). But not releasing the OOT in respectable condition? That's unacceptable.

No, no, don't you understand? The ones sold separately were limited editions! LOL!!!!!! ;-)

I already got my 'boxed set' in a nice tin with vintage artwork from Best Buy in '06.

It's weird cause it is reported on the message board on www.dvdtalk.com  DVD's page, yet I dont' see this release on www.thedigitalbits.com, or www.dvdfile.cm, or www.dvdempire.com, as they are pretty up to date on any new announcements.  I think we should wait for an official announcement before coming to any conclusions, as I remember someone posted a phony SW DVD set last year on one of the SW message boards.

Only time will tell.....
