INDY 5: GEORGE LUCAS IS NUTS

Author
Time

George Lucas says:
"If I can come up with another idea that they like, we’ll do another. Really, with the last one, Steven wasn’t that enthusiastic. I was trying to persuade him. But now Steve is more amenable to doing another one. Yet we still have the issues about the direction we’d like to take. I’m in the future; Steven’s in the past. He’s trying to drag it back to the way they were, I’m trying to push it to a whole different place. So, still we have a sort of tension. This recent one came out of that. It’s kind of a hybrid of our own two ideas, so we’ll see where we are able to take the next one."

That is pretty pricey for a single disc DVD.  Most two disc special editions are cheaper than that these days.

Incentive, much?

The two-disc blu-ray costs the same as the two-disc standard dvd, which is the same thing Iron Man is doing (and for the same price). However, the single disc is still five dollars less than Indy's.

Now that I didn't notice.  That's definitely an incentive to get the Blu-ray version over the standard DVD.  And it's nice that the two disc set is the same cost as the single.

That's exactly the type of thing the studios need to start doing if they really want Blu-ray adoption to take off.  That and getting Sony to license the tech to the chinese manufacturers so we can get cheap players on the market.

The format war has been over since what, March?  There's no reason a Blu-ray player should still cost over $200.  The first three I found on Amazon are all around $350.  That's just stupid.  My first DVD player, a Toshiba with built-in dolby decoders and plenty of outputs was $300.  My second player, an Apex, was $150.  The last player I got was $50 and that was 3 years ago.  Blu-ray players need to come down in price.

Yeah and Lucas claimed months ago he was not going to go blu.  That he was supporting online downloads Like Bill Gates.

Now suddenly Indy IV on Blu Ray, methinks lucas saw the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Remember, it ain't just Lucas.  This movie ain't his baby - it's also property of Spieldberg & others.

When did that happen?  Last I heard was from McCallum saying they were waiting for the format war to be over.  Well, it's over, so where's the announcment about Star Wars on Blu-ray?  Oh, that's right, there isn't one and probably won't be one for a while.

They only announced Indy IV, not Raiders, Temple of Doom, or Last Crusade, and of course no SW movies either.

I can understand if they were prepping SW for next year as they did that in 04 after releasing Indy Trilogy in 03, but to just release Indy IV, and not the other 3, no thanks!

The only movie I really want from Indy is Raiders, so I am taking a pass on Indy IV.

You guys realise this is the manufacturer's suggested retail price. No one ever sells it for that. It'll likely be $24.99 when you walk into stores and see it on the shelves.

Out of all the ones listed on Amazon, the single disc DVD is the only one listed without a discount.  Considering most single disc DVDs sell for under $20 at retail stores these days, I would hope it isn't $24.99.  That's almost 2 disc package price territory.

Well the German Indiana Jones 4 Double Disc is about $59

That's a hell of a goodie.  That's worth the price right there.

The skull probably isn't that big.  I imagine it's no bigger than the statues that came with the LOTR sets.

So, back on topic...

George already had taken the Indy saga in his "whole different place".  He ought to let Spielberg do it his way if they do an Indy 5.

Mhmm.. Indy 5.. Whole different place?

My two cent:

The true Indy is a bit old. Sorry, but I think no one could replace Harrison Ford as the true, one and only, Indiana Jones.

I don't think Indy makes a good "James Bond" (changing the actor)...

I think it's safe to say that almost nobody would be interested in watching a film where Indiana Jones is played by an actor other than Harrison Ford.

That German "Kristallschädel" is cool-looking, but it's probably made of plastic. I'm going to a gem show next week, where I'm going to look for a real quartz-crystal skull. It has nothing to do with the movie, I've just always wanted one.

I was so incredibly disappointed with Indy IV, there's not a snowball's chance in purgatory that I'll spend a red cent on it for quite a long while. I'm sure I'll buy it years from now just to complete my collection (as I did with Ep. I-II at about five bucks each), but at the very least it'll be a few years before I can even stomach the notion of sitting down to watch that abortion of a movie again.

All that to say - as far as I'm concerned, Lucas has already taken Indy to a whole new place with aliens & flying saucers, and it ain't pretty. I kinda hope Indy V never sees the light of day; I don't want to see IJ derailed and desecrated on the same level that SW was in 1999-present.

Oh, he is definitely going to make Indy V. Now I'm dreading the announcement of Indy VI.

Ah, who knows.  He's also "definitely" going to do those small, independent projects as well.  If Spielberg (and possibly Ford) refuse to do it, I doubt it will ever get off the ground.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Isn't the buzz that Shia Leboeuf is supposed to take over in the next film?

Lucas changed his mind about that one.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a prequel set after the Young Indy series, but before Temple of Doom.

How does Sean Patrick Flanery look these days?
