Like you, I'm 39 years old and have seen every movie in the theater.
Unlike you, I saw the movie last weekend at a press screening. And I enjoyed it and will go again soon.
Sunday256, this movie is getting a 29% ratings on www.rottentomatoes.com. Now I don't say movie reviews are be all end all, but geez 29%? That means 7 out of 10 reviews out of all the critics are negative! I remember the TPM & AOTC got around 60% and ROTS was in the 80's.
As for the movie, I don't want you to take offense, why would anyone our age want to see a cartoon? Like I said before, this is targeted for kids, and I have no qualms that kids enjoy this, as I think that is great many of you guys can take your kids.
But as a 35 year old guy, why would I want to see some cheesy SW knockoff cartoon that isn't even made for us anymore? I mean my nephews love Spongebob, but that doesn't mean I like it. I really just don't get it, but to each his own.
A lot of those reviews are by disenfranchised fan boys. Media doesn't always enforce objective reviews these days. If they did, you wouldn't see the kind of reviews being posted on the net right now.
There are a lot of adults out there enjoying the film, and yes a lot not enjoying it also. I love cartoons. I enjoyed them growing up and I enjoy them today. Do I watch every one of them? no, but if the right subject comes along like Star Wars...I'll watch it. Dragon Lance was another that I recently watched.
But you are right, to each their own. But just because the reviews are negative doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. It never has. Every person who walks into a movie theater has a different experience as you already know.
