The "Purist" edition, IIRC:

- Removes any music not originally in the film
- Restores Threepio's line at the beginning from "There'll be no escape this time" back to "There'll be no escape for the Princess this time"
- Restores the theatrical edit of the Obi-Wan/Luke hut scene
- Removes the two new Death Star reveals
- Removes the new TIE reveal from the Death Star battle

Am I missing anything else here?

Oh, and as for the "Purist" torrent:

- There IS NO DVD-9 (dual-layer) of the Purist version.  Any that claim to be are mislabeled and are actually the full Revisited version with ALL changes intact.
- You'd want the "Purist" DVD-5 (single-layer), which should be in the ballpark of 4.5 gigs, which you can burn to a DVD-/+R and play on your DVD player.
- The smaller AVI versions are just video files you can watch on your computer - there should be one that's 700 MB, and one that's around 1400 MB (1.4 GB).  I don't remember if either of those are the "Purist" version.
- While there IS NOT a DVD-9 (dual-layer) of the "Purist" version, there IS a DVD-5 (single-layer) of the full Revisited version.  If you decide against the "Purist" edition, but don't want to download an 8-gig file or don't have a dual-layer DVD burner, the DVD-5 of the Revisited version would be what you want.

Also, if you decide on the full version and not the Revisited version, I can mail you a copy of the NTSC (USA & Canada format) DVD-9.  I do NOT have access to the Purist version, or a PAL (Europe, etc. format) copy.

Wow, thanks, thats great, do you actually mean postage mail? eventhough the DVD-9 version still has the changes, it still looks like a must have with the high quality visuals and extras. I'll still try and pursue the purist version just for the sake of having the changes removed, but if you can mail the DVD-9 complete one that would be great!!! (all this file stuff and burning is so confusing, and i know jack all) I'm in Australia, but the NTSC shouldn't be too much of a problem, since I'm determined to get the purist version running anyway and I can get a hold of somthing that will run it.

Ingwe, if you're in Australia, PM me with your address and I can send you a DVD-9 of the PAL version. I'm in Melbourne so it's probably much easier for me than for ChainsawAsh, if he hasn't already sent it. I'm afraid I also don't have the Purist version, however.

Yeah, RoccondilRinon would probably be able to help you out quicker than I could, not to mention he has the PAL version.  I'm all the way up in Chicago, so it'd take quite a while to get down under.

Ok, thanks very much :) , by the way if anybody has the purist version give us a shout!

Wait what's the difference between DVD5 and DVD9?

You mean other than taking two seconds of your own time to Google it and find out for yourself?

DVD-5 is a standard DVD with the capability of holding 4.7 GB of data. A DVD-9 is a dual layer DVD capable of holding 8.5 GB of data.

Thus the DVD9 version will have a higher bitrate, the better the bitrate the better the quality of the image.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Is there a possibility of getting the raw/original AVI file instead?

In think he means in reference to ANH:R.

The DVD-5 and DVD-9 are the same as far as the film itself.  The 9 has some more bonus material - a couple of extra deleted scenes (Alderaan destruction concept and Luke & Biggs), isolated music track and FX breakdown comparison.  The 9 also has better video quality but you have to have a huge high-end HDTV to see the difference.

Purist Edition, by contrast, only comes in a DVD-5, has no bonus material at all - not even menus - and has some changes to the film as mentioned earlier in the thread.

I have a copy of the NTSC DVD9 that I got from a generous board member. PM me if you need a copy PIF'd to you.

Thanks to g-force I can PiF the NTSC DVD9 version.  This is indeed the "Repaired" version with the layer change in the correct place.  It's all good. (Thanks, G!)

I work at a Sears in the suburbs of Chicago and I just wanted to let you guys know that I have placed Adywan's Ep IV on all of the HD TV's and the response is overwhelming. There are tons of people who stand there and watch with a puzzled looked with how good everything looks. There was even one guy who asked if this was another re release.

too bad you're using a low resolution source for the HDTVs... you should wait for the much better, and higher quality High definition versions from Adywan (about to be released), or wookiegroomers 13gig

versions...

this DVD is not going to look that great on those HDTV's..

The average person can't tell the difference, and anyone who could tell the difference isn't buying their TV at Sears in the first place.

if there was a salesperson there that knew what they were selling,

and the TV's were bigger than 30 inches, YOU CAN DEFINITELY TELL THE DIFFERENCE...

are you kidding me, if you can't see it, then there is something wrong?

also SEARS is one of the biggest retailers (still) of household goods, and people still

buy their TV's from there..

my point is, if you're going to show off something in High Definition on a TV made

for that purpose, it's better to show them something from a High Definition source,

and compare it to regular TV.... i think a good salesperson would be able to use

that to  their advantage..

Adywan said he has no plans to redo ANHR in HD at this time after all the trouble it took to get the current version out there. There will be the colour corrected HD version of the SE of course, but HD or not, it's more fun to show off  the Revisited version.

I think teharri's point was that he was trying to spread awareness about 'Revisited.' It didn't sound like he was specifically trying to use it to sell HDTV's.

I thought ADY  had mentioned doing ANHR in HD on the ESBR thread any know for sure.
