Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *) — Page 17

There were certainly somethings going right with this project.

I liked most of the mixing of Luke and Anakin's mutual family traumas. Though I would have kept with Anakin all the way from his finding the Tusken camp and that evil look after his mother's death. I would have then gone to the funeral scene at the farm with Beru and Owen young and alive which ends with a pan up at the sky. Then reversed the pan up at the end of Luke's scene to a pan down (not as easy as it sounds without the smoke going backwards) and then had his reaction to seeing their charred remains. And then on to Ben comforting him and Luke decaring his intent to follow in his father's bootsteps.

I would have kept the actual Tusken laser sword massacre scenes until his confession to Padme which would have followed next (as much as I love the mixing of Padme waiting to meet her deadly husband with the confession it is rather long...perhaps keeping the wanting to stop people from dying bit would be enough as it shows Padme falsly blaiming herself for Anakin's final fall.

The love scene montage is great but the clip of little Annie takes you out of the moment.

Though it's a mountain of hard work it might be worth making it so Boba Fett is the same guy in the mask in all the films (basically erasing Jengo from the timeline and really fleshing Boba's role out). If Jengo's armour could be recoloured to match the original films and we never saw him die in AOTC that would give us more Boba for our buck. It's a shame that we have so many clone faces on display because I would prefer to never find out what under that helmet.

Well Bingowings you sound like the perfect person to take over this project!

It's tempting, I don't have access to DVD ripping and advanced editing software but if I could get good versions of the source material I might be able to do rough and ready versions which might inspire more tooled up and talented types out there to perfect the idea.

I'm a real fan of Godfather II and Infodroid's original notion is genius.

It will be done by someone eventually but I don't think I'm the guy to give the universe the polished gem this deserves to be (but I might be able give the final artist some interesting pointers).

I might start by editing the scripts.

The key to good stories is in the writing and I can edit that on a simple word processor.

Let's just get Adywan to do it. I don't think he sleeps anyway. Haha. :p

On a slightly more serious note, I wonder if ADigitalMan has seen this thread? He knows the score and I think he could do it well. I know he's not working on anything now. (other than real work, that is)

I think you ought to take a crack at it.  I (and I am sure others here as well) can assist with some freeware to get you started.  Put together a few smaller projects (like trailers) for fun and to hone some skills.  I've been teaching myself some tricks here and there in preperation for some projects of my own.

Seriously, if you want a project done right, don't farm it out to someone else unless you downright can't do it.

Just my 2 cents.

This project needs a brilliant audio editor or a clean dialogue track.

Unless someone wanted to cut and paste the scenes together without trying to change the soundtrack. We wanted to do something more than that.

Although seeing all the great responses today makes me wonder if we shouldn't have done something different.  Sad part is I do have the first half of ANH cut and sitting on my timeline in Vegas.  ID finished the rough cut of the first half and I was working on the audio when we realized that it just wasn't going to work the way we wanted it to.

id be really interested in seeing a rough cut.

i really enjoyed the clips you posted, and would happily see a "work in progress" version, just for the ideas and composition.

maybe after a rough cut, you could subdivide the film into small sections, ie, bar scene, speeder chase, dialogue scene, and maybe people could have a crack at taking one a nd implementing the ideas after spending more time on it, like some collaborative film.

have you ever considered making this in the format of a tv series? with a "previously on star wars" opening perhaps? the parallel storylines could create sufficient tense ending points.

Ben_Danger would be a great salesman because he knows how to slowly reel people in.  LOL!  :)

See Ben, you started out just asking for a basic outline, so I gave you that...THEN, you wanted clips, so TJ posted clips...NOW, you want a rough cut!  If we give you that, what's the next step?  A completed edit?

Yeah...I know what you're doing....

Haha...  ;P

No, there will be no rough cut I'm afraid.  But good try though.

That is, unless, TJ wants to do it.  I, for one, can't even look at Star Wars for at least a little while.

And I don't know if we ever considered doing it like a TV show.  I don't think so.

Does anybody want the Mace/Palp duel reposted?  I didn't know if that was still readily available or not.

I would also ask everyone to keep in mind that these clips are in low quality wma stereo sound. The release was to be  5.1 DD.  I would listen to something on my headphones (which are decent headphones, Sennheiser) and it would sound ok. Play it back through the 5.1 system in my family room and everything fell apart. I eventually moved everything around in the room so I could edit directly into 5.1. This made it much easier but also showed us very early on what we were up against.

I think TJ should finish this whole thing up over the weekend and release it.  ;)

well i guess im just enthusiastic. kinda hoping after other ID edits that you may...one day...return.

i really like the use of boba fett in the cantina, it makes it alot more mysterious. i am hoping the eventual AOTC:R by adywan incorperated some of these ideas.

does anyone know how to convert mkv format to avi? i tried a few free trial programs and they suck.:(

The only program I've been getting decent results with atm is called super, by erightsoft. It's free and fully functional, however i remember having to search around the site for a download link...

If anyone else has suggestions, I'm all ears too.

Wait this project is up and running again!? WOO HOO! How far into it is it?

Have you done ANH? ESB? ROTJ?

Also I'm willing to help in editing.

No, no, no....The project is not "up and running again". We're just releasing a few clips we had worked on over the course of this thing to satisfy people's curiosity.

I was totally kidding about releasing the rough cut...that's not going to happen. And I don't think TJ is any more ready to revisit it than I am right now.

We need a nice, long break from all things Star Wars.

That's a very kind offer and as I said I am tempted.

I'm a mac user and the only editing software I've used are iMovie and HyperEngine (so you can see I'm very green).

But any help you can give in getting started would be greatly appreciated.

If I can get a copy of the script, and the list of the finished scenes as well as the clips that have already been edited, I would Love to finish it. I myself am a movie editor.

Here's the prologue.  This is the last clip I have to upload.  Once again there are some audio glitches, video glitches, out of sync audio, slow motion problems, and audio level issues.  I never could figure out why Vegas encoded the slow motion sections with out of order video frames.  I also don't have the fonts we used so Vegas just stuck some in there.

With that said we put a helluva lot of work into this.  I worked on the neomodian (sp?) dialogue for days processing it to try and get it to sound like it belonged there.  I was only about 80% happy with it, but preferred it over the original.

Asteroid-Man: The closest thing we had to a script was the outline ID posted a few pages ago.

If you do decide to "take-on" the project I would be more than happy to discuss it with you over msn, icq or whatever.  Keep in mind if it was just a matter of editing the movies together we would have finished this thing long ago.  The music has to tie it all together or it just doesn't work.  That's why we tried so hard to change the music of the PT and to a very small extent the OT as well.  Our entire edit was based around this cohesion.

Of course that's just the way we were going to do it.   :)

That was sooo good, so beautiful... I'm lost for words.

Your edited version of Anakin's spacebattle is the best I've ever seen. I really liked it.

I hope Asteroid-Man and/or Bingowings can finish this!

I liked the space battle, too. Looked like he knew exactly what he was doing. :) The Nemoidians sounded great! Quite natural.

I was surprised that you left in the "who was his father?" part. And also the 'rule of two,' but then it led to the close-up of Palpatine, so that was ok.

Anyway, that was a very fun viewing. Oh, and where was the narration from? "A Musical Journey"? I can't remember.

where is that footage from with the desert and two suns, but when travelling across the desert? i thought it was ROTJ but i dont think it is?

Yes, I was surprised the whole "there is no father" aspect was still in there as well. I'm also not sure if showing the final part of the "construction of vader" was a good idea, if you haven't seen the film yet that'd just be confusing. I think ;-)

Loved the narration.

Did you make those dubs for the neimoidians from scratch or are they from a different language version? Were they going to be subbed or not?
