It's all abominable. All this effort into "improving" the original films should be spent restoring them instead. Mark my word, years from now it is the originals that will be prized, not the versions that contain tweaks done decades later. If the original methods had matte lines, then I want to see those matte lines. If the original used puppets, then I want to see those puppets. These are great works of art, not playthings. ARGH!!!
art and film isn't black and white (no pun intended)..................................yeah, ok, some people prefer the originals,
and some companies/film makers/artists provide that..............................
others have found a new tool in digital filmmaking, and wish to indulge in that................................let them, why not?
you can always choose to ignore it................................granted , finding originals on vhs/laserdisc, or some other
outdated medium may not be the most pleasing format or way to do it...
but also someday, people will be watching 3d , holographic versions of films (i know toy story 1,2, and 3 are all coming out in 3-d)...
and i'm sure there will be forums wishing for the 'definitive' dvd versions, which of course will be out of print, hard to find, etc.....
the cycle continues.........................i don't see it ending anytime soon either....................your fighting a losing battle, sadly..
and going back to your point.....................what do you tell all those people (and there were a lot of them), that saw the SE
versions as DEFINITIVE, and are glad they have THOSE versions on DVD, just like THEY remembered it? you can't take that
away from them can you?..........................i don't remember seeing the original bladerunner in the theater, but i saw the
directors cut, and i don't think the 'FINAL CUT' is that great either.............but thats all some people got to see in the theater,
and you can't blame them for liking that (if they did), and saying that it shouldn't be done..........
unless you're the director, producer, etc............................YOU HAVE NO SAY on what should/shouldn't be done to a film..
of course you're free to object, which i'm sure you do...
