Do you think the PT will ever be remade that gives justice to the series?

Here's my perdiction of what is going to happen to the Star Wars franchise in the next 20 years. GL is giong to continue to milk the franchise with his clone wars animated series and release shitty DVDs without the OOT. He will die (probably of overeating) sometime in the mid to late part of the next decade (not that I hope he will, nor do I wish harm on him, well... maybe a little.) Does anybody know who GL has in his will to pass the rights of SW on to after he dies? I'm hoping the person who he does pass the rights on to will be willing to finally restore the OOT and give it a beautiful DVD release. I'm hoping this person will also allow someone the rights to remake the PT with a realer, darker tone, that fits in better with the OT like the same way Chris Nolan is remaking the Batman franchise after the much loathed Joel Schumacher films. I have a feeling that actually might happen, but not until the 2020's decade. By then, I have a perdiction movie theaters will be in turmoil. By then, movies will have media releases at the same time as theater releases, most people will prefer to watch movies on the internet or rent and buy the movie on whatever media we use by then. Most theaters will not be making enough money to sustain. But a dark remake that gives justice to the PT just might reinvigorate the movie theater experience. You think we make a lot of remakes and sequels now? You haven't seen nothing yet, just wait and see how many we have in 20 years. After that, GL's PT might be looked on the same way people look at Joel Schumacher's movies compared to Chris Nolan's. Which would be pretty insulting to GL after his death, which makes me think perhaps that guy is obstinate enough to put in his will that nobody can restore and release the OOT or remake his PT. I don't think anyone would dare to remake the OT, you just can't beat the original cast, it can't be outdone.

Quite an imagination.

Anyway, I hope none of it comes true. Sounds like any true film fan's worst nightmare. Movie theaters in turmoil, lots of remakes, iTunes becomes the prefered method of movie going to people everywhere.

If such a dark and gloomy future does become a reality, I highly doubt anybody would be rooting for the remake of three overly crappy movies from the late nineties/early zeros. And I certianly doubt they would be the savior's of the movie going experience.

I can honestly and wholeheartedly say the only thing I wish Lucas had done differently would have been to leave the episode numbers out of the original trilogy. Starting with episode IV makes it hard to forget there are three missing pieces. If they were just simply Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi sans the episode numbers, people might be able to simply forget about the prequels and let Star Wars live out its existence as an above average trilogy of movies from the 70s and 80s that stand perfectly fine on their own. No more beating of dead horses.

I'd rather see VII VIII and IX get made, but hey, it would be surreal to not only have the OOT remastered but to also have the PT remade. It's like we'd be washing the last 15 years of the franchise away. But really, I can take the prequels as they are, so long as we can just have the originals as they are. I would have no problem sitting down and watching the theatrical versions of the six movies. Seeing what blu-ray looks like on my uncle's 1080p projector makes me salivate over how nice it would be to see the saga get the ultimate treatment.

Oh, and to reiterate my predictions, I'm still convinced that we'll see the OOT remastered. I think the good will of Star Wars has been tarnished and this reasoning about how Lucas "won't need" to include the original versions in the next release is bullshit. The '04 dvd's sold well because it was the movies in any form (SE or not) on dvd finally after seven years. Considering just about everyone went out and bought the '04 set and the '06 set still sold pretty damn well, it's just too much for GL and company to ignore. What have we all been saying about Lucas' current predicament? That it's amazing how he had to struggle to find a home for The Clone Wars and still is struggling for the live-action show? So what makes you think that Star Wars is going just as strong as ever and that people will re-buy the movies for the umpteenth time, especially if they won't be the original versions?

People, he caved after just TWO YEARS! Yes, it's FUBAR that he released laserdisc ports in September of '06, in a world where we could actually go to the store and buy movies in 1080p on optical disc. But that's what happens.

Well people keep on making different versions of the Batman franchise and nobody seems to be getting sick of that. The Dark Knight has reached #1 on the imdb top 250. I think that is a stretch and won't last, but I do think it was a very good movie. I think there is potential for the PT to be on par with the OT. We just need a very good director like Chris Nolan. You gotta remember, Hollywood is slowly running out of good and original ideas, in twenty years the amount of good ideas for movies will be depleted way further. They will probably be finacially much weaker and will be dieing to to revive a franchise that insures them success. The Star Wars franchise is such an easy blockbuster.

I think in the future they will remake IV, V, VI to match the shitty prequels.

Real Star Wars fans (not the TF.N, GL lickers) have to face that Star Wars ended in 1983 and that ROTJ is the last SW Film.

I Really think that the Prequels were never really goes to be made and that why GL waited 20 years to make them. The Prequels

like The SE were more likely made because GL saw his Star Wars money-well drying up.

The OOT Prequel idea was just a little background-story to give The OOT more history.

The Real Star Wars was always the story of Luke Skywalker and not Anakin/vader like GL lies about now.

The Prequel and the SE are just the money whores just like GL and TF.N.

Who cares if Hollywood makes remades just look at what's happening to Star Trek right now.

J.J. is turning Star Trek in to a dumbed down money whore version just like GL did with Star Wars (SE and PT).

There is a quote from Lucas from the Charlie Rose show in Sept 2004, as Rose asked Lucas why he went back to Star Wars in the early 90's, "I was at a crossroads in the early 90's with my company, as we were not the big money maker people think of us today.  I was presented a graph that showed what the income Lucasfilm might expect if I do the Prequels.  I could do the Prequels, and make enough money to be able to fund my own projects for the rest of my life, and never have to worry about a studio telling me anything.  Or I could go on doing smaller projects, and have to worry about being funded by Movie Studios, and all the excess that goes with it.  If I chose to do smaller projects, I would never go back to Star Wars, but it was worth it to go back and do the backstory to get away from the movie studios forever.

Yeah, I remember that quote, and I cannot believe that he actually thinks we're stupid enough to believe that prior to the prequels, he wasn't financially able to fund the making of his own films!?

Puhleeeeeeeeze!!!!!!!!!

Coincedentally, I just happened to be surfing through youtube last night and I stumbled upon the Charlie Rose interview with GL and watched the whole thing. Here is the Charlie Rose interview with George Lucas from 9-9-04:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep5oBO70xxU

I don't recall Lucas stating that qoute exactly as CO put above but he does mention that he needed more money to make the films he wanted on his own and the prequels were an opportunity to help him gain that finacial ability. I thought the interview was good, but Charlie drags out questions too long and doesn't keep much structure. He's not one of my favorite interviewers. GL seems like a smart guy, which makes me think maybe he has multiple personalities. One minuet he's smart and the next minuet he wants to put Jar Jar in every scene of Star Wars. I think one of you got it right. He's not really interested in the story of star wars but rather the process of playing with filmaking technology.
