Can you believe there is a third version of dune to be filmed.  Written by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert.

My favorite will always be the Lynch version although the sci channel version starring William Hurt is more true to the novel.

Nothing has or will ever come close to Lynchs version! But this is my general opinion. I hope you like the DVD set.

My PC's on the fritz at the moment (faulty PSU / CPU fan or heatsink) and if I do anything intensive... it dies on me. So I've got quite a lot of cover work and video encoding I need to get done (once I get the damn thing fixed). But in a week or two I could take a crack at it...

Thanks man!!! ;-)

Here some basic specs for the back cover -

David Lynch's DUNE: The Third Stage Edition

What is it about?
This is a special widescreen edit of David Lynch's DUNE that reintegrates footage from the Extended Cut, as well as some deleted scenes, while attempting to preserve Lynch's vision.  Also, unfinished extended scenes have been fixed so eyes are digitally colored blue.  The movie has been edited in such a way to preserve much of the sound and music of the theatrical cut, while incorporating Lynch's scenes from the Extended Cut.  Removed are the unapproved prologue paintings, male narrator, and fake "constructed" scenes from the Extended Cut.  Various drafts of the script have been used to put scenes in a logical order.  Our intent was to make an extended cut of DUNE that would treat Lynch with respect.

Original Film Name: DUNE
Film Studio Name: Universal
Date Film Was Released: December 1st, 1984
Date Re-Edit Was Released: April 2008
Original Runtime: 137 min (Theatrical Cut)
New Runtime: 177 min
Amount of Time Cut/Added: 40 minutes added to the theatrical cut.

Fan Edit Details:
2.35:1 NTSC Anamorphic, 8000kbps, 448khz ac3 5.1 surround audio.

DVD Features:
1. Motion Menu
2. Chapter Menu
3. Supplement: Theatrical Trailer
4. Supplement: Enhanced Deleted Scenes
5. Supplement: Television Prologue

Persons involved: PhineasBg (editor), OldBiff (Source Material and Creative Consultant).  With kudos to Fanfiltration for some inspirations.

This version of DUNE would be very interesting for me to see.  As with "Superman", I too attempted a personal project of the extended cut.  For those of you not familiar with my work...this was a version that used all the legitimate footage that existed at the time of the extended cut's issue (including the violence of the theatrical cut), but eliminating as much as possible the repeated footage that caused David Lynch to take his name off the credits, as well as restoring Lynch's name in the main and end credits.  I did leave in the painted prologue of the TV version and the theatrical prologue in a way that each part of the film is its own movie, with Part I being narrated by the male narrator and Part II narrated by Princess Irulan (one scene from Part Two of the TV version had narration from the male narrator that had to be left there for continuity purposes).

I did see FanFiltration's earlier attempt at his extended version (with the blue-within-blue-eyes effect restored to the TV scenes), but as I can imagine will be nothing like the "Third Stage" version.

I too am interested in this version.  I still have my hybrid version of DUNE on hand if anyone is interested somewhere down the road if the "Third Stage" version is ever completed.

Good luck, guys.

That is sweet!!!!!

Here is a plot summary I whipped up!  Maybe you can add a tagline?

Taglines:

1: A place beyond your dreams, A movie beyond your imagination.
2: A world beyond your experience, beyond your imagination.

  1. Plot Summary:
  1. It is the year 10,191, various planets inhabited by mankind are ruled by a feudatory Padishah Emporer known as Shaddam IV (José Ferrer). Amongst these vassals are the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Kenneth McMillan) and his enemy, Duke Leto Atreides (Jürgen Prochnow), whom the emperor has come to fear as a possible rival. In order to rid himself of this potential threat, the emperor conspires with the Harkonnens. He grants the Atreides control of the planet Arrakis, the sole source of the Spice, a mysterious substance that allows the navigators of the Guild, a powerful organization that monopolizes interstellar travel, to fold space and thereby travel from world to world. Some time after the Atreides' arrival on Arrakis, the Harkonnens, aided by the emperor's own soldiers, attack and destroy them. The duke's son, Paul (Kyle MacLachlan), survives and escapes to live with indigenous tribes of people who were once thought not to exist. Rallying these rough nomadic tribes around him, Paul begins his journey to create peace and bring a new universal order.

Count me among those who are totally psyched for this version.  I am a huge fan of the famously flawed flick (both theatrical and TV version) and a fan edit done right could be the answer to my prayers.

I find your lack of pants disturbing.

This release will be up soon! For those interested keep an eye out!

I think you all are gonna love it. Heck! just the blue eyes being finally fully completed (WIDESCREEN) in the extra scenes is a plus.

So what's the progress on this edit? I see you put the release date as "September 2008" and it's the second already.

Was that just an optimistic estimation, or are you almost done? 50%? 75%?

I look forward to this eagerly.

Good luck!

I have nostalgic feelings for "Dune" also, v-ger06.

I saw it when I was 9 or 10 with a group of friends, and, midway through the movie, everybody, except for me, was complaining that we should have gone to see "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo" instead.

I didn't understand "Dune" at all when I first saw it, but I still enjoyed it on a purely cinematic level.
