Ady, is it possible to see some 1080p footage that you have completed so far?

i'm afraid not. i haven't even started converting the original file yet to 1080p avi as i had done all the new work with 720p. i have just deleted the 720p stuff and starting again. it will be a week or so before i have even done the first colour pass.

I have one concern about an eventual Blu-Ray version of ESB. I have been told that recordable Blu-Rays are unable to play on Blu-Ray players. This was one of the big gripes that came from the HD-DVD camp back when the war was on. Essentially that Blu-Ray "Rs" were only useful as data discs in PCs due to a deliberate lack of support as recorded movie discs on players (something about combatting piracy) Stupid Sony...

Most of those issues were either down to the burning software that was available and the players firmware. The PS3 can play BD-R & BD-RE since a firmware upgrade and many other players have fixed this issue with a firmware upgrade too. Although samsung disabled BDMV (the main blu-ray standard) after a firmware which made blu-ray recorded movies unplayable butu most other players will play it. There is also the BDAV standard which has less features and almost all players will play the recordable media.

But a blu-ray disc version is years away yet. The AVCHD should play on most Blu-ray players so you'll be able to watch it, with chapters and extra audio tracks, but recorded to a single DVD-9

Nope, the DVD-9 of ANH is the best you can - and it seems, will ever be able to - get, which isn't saying anything bad about it since it looks absolutely fantastic.

And I'm damn excited about this 1080p ESB.  Why must all the great projects take so long to finish?

anybody try upscaling via scripts and software anh:r? it might be possible to get a 'decent' version out of it...

esb i'm not that thrilled with, because it was never a favorite for me..

why does anything take long? how many projects do you work on that are quick and easy???

questions questions questions...

What do you mean by an airtight container to store discs? Where do you get one, what does it cost?

I used a vaccuum container that i have had for years that was for storing papers in. You just seal the lid and then suck the air out with a its mini vaccuum cleaner ( i ahve 1 smallish one that i keep important discs in and 3 larger ones that contain some of my older artwork that wasn't done on canvas). haven't seen them around for a while but i'm pretty sure that you can still get them though. but you can always use an airtight plastic container used for storing food. they work just as well

Hello, another newbie here :

First off I wish to join the chorus of congratulation for what you did with your version of A New Hope

Things I still wish were done are, putting Boba back in (I don't miss Jabba though, they could never get him to work, the tail stomping is silly and the scene is pointless after the Greedo scene) but it have been nice to have dropped the Boba shot into the streets of Mos Eisley as a mysterious figure who may be tracking Kenobi and Co or Han and Chewie only to have his background filled in later (or serve as a reminder of AOTC if seen from 1 to 6). I'd have also liked to have seen the message about the Dantooine Base delivered as a hologram projected from the conference table. Holographic telephony is a regular feature of the Star Wars universe and the ball in the centre of the conference table is almost certainly used for this purpose. Tarkin would want to get a report as soon as possible so a projected report from a field officer would make sense (keeping the conference room doors shut and projecting the officer from the ball sounds doable but it may have been gilding the lilly more than a tad).

The only addition to Empire I can think of (that has yet to been mentioned as far as I can remember) would be to have the Star Destroyer bridge hit by the asteroid instead of vanishing in an explosive cloud to snap off and fly towards the screen sparking after being hit in the neck. It would explain why her Captain is still alive for a fraction of a second during the video conference with Vader (something I thought was great fun when I was young and still do).

I know it's very early days but for Jedi (and boy do you have your work cut out there) my instincts are a little different from yours as I'd keep Boba's womanising but I'd rejig the sabre action on the skiff so rather than have Solo accidentally sending him to his death, I'd have Luke cut his head off mirroring what happened to his father in AOTC. The main subtext of ROTJ is Luke trying to avoid following the same fate as his father, Boba followed his father's path so it makes symbolic sense if he suffered the same fate.

The Ewoks should do the same trick as the baby aliens in Galaxy Guest, look cute but by adding articulation to their faces actually look disturbing at times (they certainly need to blink now and then).

The conference room on the Rebel ship is a hideous set which always looks like a set. If possible it would be nice to revisit the production designs which had technicians on cherry pickeresque arms (which is sort of in evidence in Ackbar's digital alarm clock radio chair). 21b should go he's only there because he was hanging around the prop dept when they were dressing the set.

The capital ships when they jump to hyperspace should streak to the same vanishing point as the fighters (they are going to the same place after all) and I'd have Jejerrod turn the Death Star on Endor as a scorched moon spite attack.

I agree Lando should go up in flames with the Falcon.  The Falcon was Solo's bachelor pad and he's not going to be Solo anymore if he's nesting with bikini Jedi (though I don't think in the real world it will be a happy marriage, going by the choking by proxy she gave Lando in Empire it's Leia not Luke who's more likely to follow in her fathers boot steps).

I'd also have a shot of the AT-AT stomping through the tree line in the Endor battle only to come a cropper via some trap or other.

Something needs to be done with Leia remembering Padme. Perhaps having the line edited to "No, just images really, feelings." may be enough.

If I were George I would have had Padme recording messages for her child in ROTS (she was pregnant during uncertain times and it would have served as a way for Leia to have seen her mother even though she died soon after her birth).

All power to your arm and I will follow your efforts with great interest.

Although it will be several years before Adywan gets down to editing ROTS I hope he decides to cut the single most outrageous line of dialog in the whole film, namely: "Only a Sith deals in Absolutes." This line, which is itself an absolute statement (philosophical absurdity), destorys the entire mythical "wisdom" of the Jedi and renders them into New Age relativists who believe there is no Truth as such, but only "truths". In other worlds, Lucas would have us believe our "truth" is just "true" for us, and that we are locked in our respective subjectivities; therefor there can be no universal and immutable Truth which the Jedi aspire to. In this case I would argue that the Sith are more correct philosophically than the Jedi, but if we remove this nonsense one can escape Lucas' postmodern relativism.

I know that ROTS isn’t going to be started for a few years, but I thought I’d weigh in now since I doubt I will be able to keep up with these projects in the future.

I just got home from the theatre.  I never in a million years thought I'd say this, but Heath Ledger has given one of the most amazing performances in Cinema history.  Quite literally, The Dark Knight can stand as one of the top 5 best movies ever made.  I'm stunned.  I'm in awe.  I'm deeply saddened that I'll never get to see the Joker again.  Heath Ledger owns this character for all eternity.  I don't know if I've ever left a theatre feeling this emotionally drained.  I really don't know how to express how this movie..... just a movie.... has made an idelible mark on me.  My entire lifetime I've dreamed of a movie capturing and surpassing what I feel a particular genre should be and this is better than the Frank Miller Batman.  For me to say that is done with the utmost respect.

This is the Batman.  This is the Joker.  This is TwoFace.  This is Gordon.  There can be no other.

PS  I know its not Star Wars..... I just don't care.

What the hell????? Last time i looked this is the ESB:R thread. Maybe that should have gone in the Dark Knight thread as it has nothing to do with this project. There has been too many posts that don't relate to ESB (but at least the others have related to a star wars movie) & i have stated before that its getting impossible to keep track of all the suggestions for ESB:R without something like this getting posted.

Please no more about anything other than ESB. There will be threads started for the other SW saga movies that you can discuss ideas for them at the appropriate time. I'm pretty busy at the moment but i like to keep track when i see a new post only to have wasted my time reading stuff like this.

Anymore and mr. ignore button will start to get some use on those offending. lol

On my part I did explain that I'm new to these boards and to this thread which has already verged off onto all things Star Wars Revisited. Most of what I'd like to see has been already suggested by others and your good self who is doing all the hard work anyway so if I didn't diverge from the topic in some form I'd really wouldn't be able to contribute to the thread at all.

i wasn't pointing anything towards you. it was Darth Stewies damn stupid Dark Knight post that really pissed me off. I couldn't give 2 shits about bloody batman so why the hell he thought that it was suitable to post something that had nothing to do with star wars just annoyed me, especially when there is already a thread in the off topic thread about that movie.

Adywan -  at 1:27:21 (PAL 'timing'), just as Vader comes around the corner of the reddish-brown interior, after telling Boba Fett that he can take Han to Jabba the Hutt after he has Skywalker, there is some very noticeable 'cloudiness' / 'fogging' on the bottom of the frame.  It seems like damage to the print almost, and is very annoying, and 'blurs' in front of the blackness of Vader especially.  Any chance it can be eliminated?

Hope to get a chance to stick a few other things on here again shortly, but been concentrating on some ideas with doubleofive this past while, to show you a couple of thoughts about certain stuff.  We're nearly there on that.

GET SOME SLEEP, we can wait as long as it takes for this thing, lol!

A few examples of something similar (sticking to the Empire shot as per the Master's request) are the Reliant's nacelle being shot off in Star Trek II, The Pegasus hanger bay breaking off and striking the Cylon Basestar in nuBSG and I suppose, keeping it in the Star Wars family (and specifically within the same 30 minutes of the same film) the TIE fighter losing it's solar panel and spinning out of control (another element I also loved when I first saw the film all those years ago).

Given that Empire and Wrath of Khan's effects were done by ILM in the same era and Battlestar's were done by John Dykstra, who was on the original Star Wars team, it makes sense that the visual "solution" for these explosions and debris would look similar. I'm sure Ady could fix it but it might be a really big pain and I'm not sure if that is really a "Mistake" so much as a period effects limitation and given that idea, should it be a priority area, or simply something that is corrected with a bigger explosion and more debris to "sell" the complete disappearance of the bridge module - which I believe was the intentional choice of the filmmakers to show how deadly the asteroid field is for any ship, even the massive Star Destroyers.

Does that mean Dark Knight:Revisited may not possibly happen then?

Seriously though Adywan, dont push yourself that hard in life. Trust me, sleep deprivation does strange things to a person.

Some of us here may think of you as super human, perhaps, and are someone who can do anything they they simply dream of, but the truth is your not. You seem to be focused on constantly on raising the bar for fan edits, and at the moment your undertaking one hell of a workload.. Taking a step back sometime could be a good thing for yourself when you start to get tired of our expectations and demands. And remind yourself all the time that this is simply a hobby that fits in, and around your lifestyle. Otherwise, gradually, turn to the darkside you will, and resent us all.

You made SW:R as the version of Star Wars as you would like to see for yourself. We may have contributed 'with' that idea, just dont start letting us dictate to what ESB:R 'should' be to you.

You came here, like most of us because of a love for Star Wars and all that it stood for EDIT: okay, stands for. And against expectation you have actually delivered. Now comes the pressure of expectation. So, slow down a little, so as not to risk total burn out, okay dude.

If anything else, give your computer a breather then (im on so many ignore lists now).

LOL. I know its not Star Wars..... I just don't care <- thats one of 'those' quotes for someones signature right there. I laughed so hard because i heard Adys response in the style of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman saying "What the hell????? Last time i looked this is the ESB:R thread" in my mind (see i told you sleep deprivation does weird things to a person!).

Sorry Darth Stewie, i really am glad you liked the movie, honestly. Last time i reacted like that to a film i ended up here.

Oh, and welcome to the forums Bingowings *shaking my head and still laughing quietly*

i have to give a huge appology to Darth Stewie. I guess the lack of sleep and pressure to catch up with what i had already done, only to have to start everything again from scratch now i'm doing it in 1080p, just turned me into a cranky old git. I really do appreciate all the input  you have done to this project. Seeing a post about a totally unrelated movie just got my attention at completely the wrong time, and i just lost it ( which as everyone knows is totally out of character for me). So i am truly sorry. No one is going on my ignore list. i don't have one.

I guess i am pushing myself too hard to get this edit done in the shortest possible time, but without cutting corners. The pressure is really on me to live up to ANH:R, which i totally didn't expect. Also i don't want to have to be still doing these movies when i'm 50+, which is how old i'll be if each one takes 2 years+.

Again, i'm sorry. I guess i was seduced by the dark side. But i'm all better now. lol

There aint a problem with pushing yourself, just when you push yourself to far.

Theres not a thing wrong getting pissed off with something or someone, we all do it (those about to hit puberty here are in for a life time of this emotion!).

How many people know who Gunnery Sergeant Hartman is in this thread out of intrest? *still chuckling*

Okay its not Star Wars........I JUST DONT CARE! ROTFALOL!

EDIT: More to the point who doesn't know who he is? And if you google it you've already failed.

If theres one thing, this thread has given me tears of joy in my eyes, and i thank you for that Ady (can i be on your ignore list please? As an exclusive member or something).

Also, in years from now, in therapy, it helps if you refer to us as "those barstards" from now on.

Okay, yeah, its not Star Wars........I ....JUST......... DONT .........CARE! ROTFALOL again!

Awe god. Just trying to raise a smile on your serious workface there.

Its done when its done, and not before then, okay? The pressure comes from yourself, and how much you listen to us.

I could sence your agitation because you opened up and started to swear for the first time ive ever noticed. Dont try to cover it over with going back to being Mr.Nice again because, these are YOUR threads! And you can say 'almost' anything within your thread(s), as here you are GOD (as long as you dont mention money, and URM, and, cough).

Its also good to challenge someones point of view and get angry once in a while.

See people Adywan is HUMAN. Not a real god, he's just god in this thread.

100 years time forcasts StarWars as being written by director Adywan, as there is no previous release playable on a modern day technology avalible at that given time (though an old '8track equivalent' low quality DVD SE of the film directed by a George Lucas, briefly flashed up on a futuristic data streaming method that only a few even bothered noticing).

Well, everyone can be whatever they want to, but if you're going to get very vocal and not understanding you might risk alienating some of your fans who read these forums. I'm very glad Adywan that you took your time to apologize. I like listening to people who know they should have limits and don't want to push people away.
