True to form, my slow local post office delayed things just long enough for me to become antsy, but my copy finally arrived today. Haven't had a chance to see more than the menu and the first couple chapters, but I'll get to that soon enough. THANK YOU, InfoDroid!!

If you're interested in joining the PiF, PM me with your snail addy and tell me what program(s) you use for copying. Ben_danger, I can get you started over there in the UK, unless ID has already sent one that way.

No problem, Aux! Thank YOU! :)

I haven't sent one to Ben_Danger yet. If you're willing to do that, that'd be awesome. I'm pretty sure he's the only one who liked it so far. LOL!

The reviews have been brutal, which you run the risk of whenever you cut a beloved film so deeply. But, what can ya do? Here's to hoping people like my less-drastic cut of "Last Crusade" better, because right now, I've got the fanedit equivalent of "Ishtar" on my hands. LOL!

They might run me off the boards for this one...

Beloved?! <insert swirly-eyed guy here> Never heard that before. But I guess some people really like the original. I never knew that...

Nah. I think you're overreacting. There were only three people who gave you thumbs down. When you consider they all said they liked the original, don't sweat it. Considering you've made it clear that this edit is for those that didn't care for a lot of the elements of the original, I'd ignore the critiques from those who are fans of the original (aside from any technical critiques -- you always gotta listen to those).

I for one love this edit :-)

Really well done, it's the first time I've watched TOD without cringing ;)

There was only one part I "didn't like": just before the flashback we get an evening view of the palace, which I thought was confusing. I think the flashback would've worked better without it. But really, that's like one second... the rest was great.

The new opening, the new less annoying willie, the new shorty, ... all great changes.

You've succesfully replaced my TOD disc :-)

Tell me about it.  Neither did I.  I've read for twenty years how horrible Temple of Doom was compared to the others...  But I've noticed on the imdb boards and on here that there's actually a huge contingent of people who love it.  Like I said before, it was never one that I became emotionally attached to, because it was the one I was never allowed to watch as a kid.

DarthBo, thanks for the comments...you must be right about the shot before the flashback not working, because almost everyone has mentioned that.  The orginal shot faded into that shot and that's why it was difficult to leave the exterior shot out.  I was also using it as a visual bookmark.  When we came back to that scene later, after the elephant trek, we see that shot again, and presumably say, "okay, we're back here again."  Plus, I felt leaving it in gave us a little more breathing room before we made the switch, but obviously, it needed something else.  A couple people who hadn't seen TOD in a long time, actually thought the Shanghai club was the interior of the palace because of that establishing shot.

Glad to hear I replaced your TOD disc...it's an honor.  :)

I got my copy the other day (thanks InfoDroid!) and finally had time to watch it.

Fantastic.  As soon as the menu popped up, I knew I was in for something special.  The new opening was great.  The new credits worked brilliantly with the trek to the palace.  The movie started out dark and really set the proper tone for the film.  Especially without the craziness of Willie.  I'll post a formal review soon.

In the mean time, I promised InfoDroid I'd PiF a few copies, so if three of you chaps want one, drop me a line.

Infodroid!

LOVE this edit.  The opening is brilliant and feels like the sequel I had always hoped it would be (as a boy, that is).

Got thrown by the flashback at first, but considering what you're working with...

I really wish we could do without the whole airplane sequence where the pilots can't think of any way to kill Indy except to parachute out. Then Indy escapes with the brilliant plan of using an inflatable raft.  "I BELIEVE that sh*t -- because he braced himself!"

But all your other cuts are so spot on.  The last bugger for me is that this is a prequel to Raiders, yet Indy uses magic words to free the rocks; he sees how the magic rock restores the village-- so he knows supernatural stuff happens-- so why is he so totally skeptical in Raiders?

Nothing you could do, naturally-- so you made the movie as good as I can imagine it getting.  Cutting the "heart-ripper" scenes was a surprisingly good idea in my mind.  But the opening was your coup-de-gras.  GREAT WORK!

Sluggo, thanks for helping distribute this. You're without a doubt this forum's greatest asset.

And Mark Haslett! (You're alive!) So glad you got your hands on a copy of this. All of the points you raised I agree with 100%, but like you said...with what I had to work with, I did what I could.

Keep your eyes peeled over at fanedit.org for my Last Crusade edit. If you liked this, then you'll love The Last Crusade: Unholy Edition. It'll be out within the next couple of weeks.

Laterz!

I think you mean, [Palpatine=You're without a doubt this forum's greatest asset.]  Which is totally incorrect, of course.

Rowman, your copy is on the way.  I've sent out my three, but I can send a few more if necessary.

A Last Crusade edit sounds interesting.  I'll be ready to grab it as soon as I can.

Yes, I'm back to give you props! Nice to say hello again!

What can you tell us about your Crusade plans?

I have to admit that over time, Crusade has fallen far behind the other sequels in my opinion files. Except for the opening, it feels even less like Raiders than ToD did (especially the new InfoDroid ToD!).

Celebrity professor Jones; impersonating Scottsmen... I don't know. What can be done? Cut all that stuff out, I guess. Are you giving any hints? I am eager to see what you do considering the magic you done so far.

Keep up the great work!

P.S. THANK YOU to Sluggo for the disc.  I feel I owe you one.  Did you read that Darabont script yet?

I haven't had a bit of time to dive into it yet.  I hope to soon!

If you want to do something good, then I recommend you watch Gunga Din, play Indiana Jones in Atlantis and then read Darabont's script back-to-back-to-back! ;-)

InfoDroid,

I am a HUGE fan of the original and really enjoyed its back-and-forth between slapstick to horrific, however I realize I'm in the minority and understand why.

But this edit is just... INCREDIBLE!! It truly does seamlessly remove most of the "undesirable" elements of the original and reign it in towards what most people wanted this sequel to be. This new take on a "beloved" film of mine was an absolute pleasure to watch. I will be distributing this to all of my friends who I have had debates with on how good or bad TOD was. I'm sure they'll enjoy this version as much as I enjoyed the original.

This is a true piece of work and an asset to anyone's Indiana Jones movie collection. BIGGIE THANKS!

I have to agree with Darthbo about the palace shot before showing club Obiwan, It just seems distracting for a short moment. Other than that I can't really fault it. The Edit is a hell of a lot of fun to watch and it does feel a little closer to 'Raiders' than it did before. I've already passed it on to two others and I'll be interested to see what they have to say...

Cool!  :)  Thanks for the comments Rowman and Johnny Ringo!  I'm so glad it's getting around...and I'm glad you liked it!  Thanks for helping distribute it too.  Let me know what your friends think of it.

And make sure to check out my Last Crusade edit when it's released pretty soon.

This sounds awesome.  I love Indy, and I watched ToD the most when I was a kid.  But I recently got the boxed set on DVD and watched it....and I felt differently.  It was way sillier than I remember, and I can really see how it was a disappointing sequeal to Raiders.

Can I get a PIF copy of this from anyone, please?

Thank you.

I am also looking for a PIF copy.  I have the full suite of DVD-burning equipment but, alas, lack a good internet connection to download the ISO.  PM me if you can help, thanks!

nadcracker and petehammer, there's a guy named "darthtron" I had sent a copy to. He was supposed to forward copies to three other people, but he never let me know if he got the disc or not. I'll PM him and try to find out.

If he doesn't surface, then I'll try to get a copy out to you personally.

One of the guys I did a PiF with has a few he can send your way if you live in the States.  If that 'darthtron' guy doesn't come through, I can get something arranged.
