the last few pixar movies been pretty hit and miss for me..
monsters inc-miss, finding nemo-miss, incredibles - hit,
cars - HUGE HIT, ratatouille- miss............and now this....... wall-e.....
it's the first pixar movie that made me ambivalent............
You didn't like Nemo or Ratatouille, but you liked Cars? Seriously? Cars was ... well ... pretty awful in my opinion, I honestly don't get what people like about it, at all.
I will agree on Monsters and Incredibles - I never cared much for the former, and The Incredibles was ... well ... damn good (ha! And you thought I was going to use a pun).
But back to my original question(s):
What about "Nemo" did you dislike, and what about "Cars" actually worked for you? Just curious really.
i should start out with by saying 'toy story' is one of my all time favorite movies, right up there with 'star wars', gasp!
some background
----------------------
i've always liked/been interested in computer graphics, since the 70's....and later....especially 'tron' another HUGE favorite of mine...
i waited for the day that movies would be made using computer graphics only...................and 'toy story' blew me away....the story,
the graphics, etc.....(the 2nd toy story was ok..)...and bugs life was terrible..(same with antz...thats another story though)....
anyways, back to the thread...........so i followed each and every cg movie that came out, with the results i mentioned above,
but something happened.......(especially by the time the horrible 'shrek' came out)................the movies were no longer impressive,
the visuals were done by everyone and their brother, and then something about a 'story' came into play, plot, characters, etc...
so i waited until a movie would come out again that had cool graphics, and a decent plot..........not until the 'incredibles' did that happen..
but unlike the other disney-esque stories that were out there..............this one had an adult feel to it...................................
something that none of the movies , except 'cars' had...............ok, i admit, i'm a HUGE fan of cars, racing cars, nascar, driving cars, etc...
so i had a huge bias to that, along with seeing the previews...............'cars' is probably the penultimate movie, approaching 'toy story'
like mythic properties to me......the graphics/story/humor, everything just 'clicked'..........................'nemo' on the other, while visually
appealing, fell flat in everything else.................the main character, and supporting cast bored me (especially 'ellen's character), the humor was dull, the
audience purely aimed at kids, no suspense, no drama, and nothing memorable to me..........so i pretty much ignored it.
by the way, i have seen each and every one of these in the theaters, and am not comparing them at home, which i guess is a totally
different experience..
