With “The Dark Knight” opening today, are there any efforts to preserve the 60s tv series?

As awful as it was, I'd honestly like to see it.  Whenever I'm in a real bad mood, I pop in my old VHS of the '66 movie, and the absolute incredulity of it always brings a smile to my face.

Just an FYI for those of you in the states, there is a channel called American Life that seems to air the 60s Batman show during the week.

My tv studies professor actually had a dvd of the series. He said he bought it at a comic con. The quality isn't that great though, there was a lot of pixelation. If it was done something like 5 years ago, it could probably be remastered for dvd today with less compression even if the source used wasn't that great.

There are actually two good quality complete sets floating around out there.

There's one called the "Studio Masters" set which was made directly from VHS tapes given to cast members of the 1989 Batman movie. The episodes are uncut, free of onscreen logos, and contain the "In Color" bumpers at the beginning of each episode as well as the "Next Week's Villian" bumpers before the end credits.

The other one is the "Canadian TV Land" set that was recorded from a marathon broadcast of uncut episodes a few years back. It sports superior picture quality over the "Studio Masters" set with a few very minor drawbacks. There are no "In Color" or "Next Week's Villian" promos and the "TV Land" logo is seen in the bottom right corner of the screen through most of each episode. Since it's CANADIAN TV Land, the logo is just that... a logo. Not like the one on TV Land in the US that's constantly animated and letting you know what show you're currently watching, what's on next, and what movie will be playing the following week.

Both sets are worthy of having until an official DVD set is released, but like Disney's "Song of the South" that may never happen.

The one on the Spleen is the TVLand set, just letting you guys know.  I'm interested in this "Studio Masters" set, anyone know where I could find that?

Just PM me and I can tell you where you can get the "master set". I prefer to discuss this through PM knowing that any link would be removed anyway. I just got my set last Friday and it's amazing! You can choose between a 23-DVD set (platinum) or a 33-DVD set (gold). The latter has less episode per DVD; therefore less compression and better quality. Both sets have 3 DVDs of bonuses. You also get to choose if you want artwork or not. By the way, I don't think the person "selling" them is making money out of it. The price barely covers for blank DVDs, DVD sleeves / box and shipping, so hopefully I'm not violating any rule by mentionning it here. If so, may a moderator contact me and I will immediately remove this post. Thanks

fan projects and preservations should never be sold period.

The best thing to do and put the guy out of business is accquire one set and then pif them free of charge except for b+p, and put it up on the newsgroups and the torrent sites.

unless they are printed on gold plated dvd's or all dual layer discs whatever price the guy sells them for short of a few bucks to cover blanks and postage is highway robbery.

You can get a 50 rack of taiyo yuden sl for next to nothing these days if you win a cheap auction on ebay like me. i paid about 15 bucks.

I find it funny that the 60's movie is getting released on blu ray and the tv show the movie belongs to is not even on dvd.

The age old problem is Fox owns the series and DC owns the character. And the usual culprit is money. We're lucky the movie seems to be free of this mess.

It's also amazing that the reunion movie got made, let alone released on DVD!

Any more than media and media rate postage is overkill, imho.

Holy Hell freezes over, Batman! The digital bits is reporting Adam West is working on special features for a DVD release!  :D

Maybe all that moolah Dark Knight is raking in shook things up?

Unfortunatley, Adam West is working on his own DVD documentary on the show, not a box set of the actual episodes.

Hey now you bashers, the old show is classic!

I'm working on a reedited version of the movie Batman:  The movie, from 1966, yes there was a movie, it was bad, but in color and had west in it.  It did fairly well.  Its not needed to be preserved because you can buy it.

and sorry to rain on your perade,

I took the link out,

Probably a bad idea to link to bootleg merchandise dvds since it is against forum rules.

That site should be shut done all they sell are pirated tv shows.  Most of which are officially available on dvd.  and the ones that are not they don't own the copyright to them.

Preservation is a grey area only as long as someone does not sell the unavailable as yet episodes to make a profit.

I'm surprised that guy is not in prison who owns that site.

Wondering if anyone can help me find the Canadian TV Land caps, or I'd even settle for the Masters.

I found torrents, but the first 50 episodes of season 2 are from US TV Land (only worse; even more cuts for some reason, and way lower quality than the torrent at MySpleen). I found another torrent, but they were all in Italian.

...and for the time being, it looks like two of these are stuck, so I'm also missing episodes 320, 321, 322, 323, and 326 =/

And I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on some 30+ disc bootleg set that comes with "bonus disc" copies of legit DVDs.

THREAD NECROMANCY !!!!!

A friend of mine capped an episode off the satellite feed of ITV4.  Knock on wood, hopefully between my two friends who can pick up this station we can get a bunch of episodes.

It's in very good condition, and mostly progressive.  Both my friends can cap this digitally, one from OTA and the other from dish.  There's a station logo, but as it is static and very faint, we have been able to remove it without visible damage (using a transparency mask delogoer, not a warp delogoer).

Knock wood.  If I can get the eps I'm going to try to downconvert them to NTSC and make isos, while my friend in Belgium works on MKVs.

But are they unedited? The edited ones are pretty easy to get a hold of.

I don't know.  All I know is they're in good shape and delogoable.  In the worst case they could perhaps be merged with another source.

Hey guys, I have most episodes of Batman capped from ITV-4, and I've tried to do work to them, but I really can't be bothered as I keep getting poor results, so I'm willing to send them out if anyone wants them.
I'm only missing a few episodes from season 1. And yes, there are *some* edits, such as the Lesley Gore song "Maybe Now" missing from an episode, and the "next week" villain bumpers, but overall they're complete.

I got good results off GonbeFAN's TS, but his is satellite (it wouldn't come out as good working from Freeview).  He and I might both be interested in something like that.

Mine are freeview caps. I wasn't aware of a quality difference between that and Satellite to be honest, but it makes sense. If you want, I can PM you alternative contact details, should you ever be interested. I hardly ever check back here.
