Wouldn't it be awesome if the Blu-Ray of Star Wars was like this...?

Funny I was thinking exactly the same thing the other day when watching The Final Cut on blu-ray (imported it into UK from Amazon.com). This has to be one of the best box sets ever in terms of features and sheer quality. And four different cuts of Blade Runner as well all in HD. Ridley obviously has his finger on the pulse, unlike Luca$! He also seems excited by the enthusiasm for his films as well with different introductions to each cut of the film, and yet another audio commentary. My projector only accepts the 560p HD but even at this resolution the final cut looks simply stunning - better than I remember it ever looking.

It's ironic... back in the early 90s Lucasfilm could do no wrong in terms of releases, and where way ahead of the pack - back then the THX Star Wars Laserdiscs got rave reviews everywhere, especially the collectors edition released in 1993 (I think). This was when Lucas still seemed to care about the quality of his original cuts. That plus the release of the superb Anthology soundtrack boxed set... ahhhh those where the days! What went wrong....

If Star Wars was released like this I think everyone would be happy, and George would be even richer - everyone wins! I much prefer the original cuts of the films (though Adywan's version of A New Hope is my preferred version at present), but after seeing the 12GB HD versions of the Original trilogy recently it's impossible to go back to the GOUT versions now.

"all the OOT versions are still out there on laserdisc, and the new versions are on dvd......

and you think they should be re-released again?"

- I don't quite understand where you are coming with this statement Negative 1. Aren't you planning to transfer an original 35mm print of Empire?!? Surely this means you want the original in better quality than is currently the case? Perhaps I'm missing your point - lol!
