God, you're really gonna hate me when i get to the PT. I'm going to be ripping those movies to shreds, beyond all recognition. lol

Sounds good, Ady.  I don't hate the prequels as much as most around here, but it is a huge stretch to call them "great movies."

I think that the area next to our names that currently have our "ranking" that they're considering getting rid of should be replaced with things like "Purist" (original versions or death), "Revisionist" (changes/prequels aren't bad, but need tweaked), "Lucas Fanboy" (Lucas knows whats best), or others things we could choose in our profile.  That way you'd know who you're dealing with without them harping on it.

Oh, and just to make sure, you are making all of the Star Destroyer "exhaust" blue, right?  I noticed a shot in RotJ that has both blue and yellow on seperate Destroyers, with most of the Empire ones just having white "exhaust."  Also, what kind of consistency can be brought to the fact that most of the time in ESB only the three main engines are lit...  I know you talked about doing the Falcon's, just making sure the Star Destroyers were included in that consistency check.

I think that the '97 R2 looks fine. The '04 version looks too new and shiny (and, of course, the eye thing).

I'm thinking that maybe when a Star Destroyer is at rest or in orbit it only need's 3 engines and it only needs all 7 when chasing Blockade Runners and Falcons.  That could save you a lot of work.

Here's an idea I had for both ESB and ROTJ but it might be too radical for this edit and it would comletely screw the EU but I would so like to see it. Here's the basic premise: Make Endor a Moon of Coruscant. Make the planet under the Death Star in ROTJ Coruscant, as seen in ROTS, with Endor visible far in the distance. In ESB, after the Hologram scene, have the Emperor cackling at his office desk with a cloudy skyed gloomy Coruscant cityscape in the background. Have stardestroyers visible in the atmosphere and TIES patrolling the city. A partially completed Death Star could be seen in the distance in the sky of Coruscant while the Emperor gazes at all of the destruction around. Elements could be composited from the ROTS deleted scenes, ROTS and ROTJ. The whole thing just seems like a great way to tie the OT with the PT and add whiz bang effects without cheapening the OT. The TIE attack and the new death Star reveal made ANH Revisited as much as all of the little tweaks did. I hope ESBR doesn't become the Purist edition. I can see how this could all be hell to do but even just adding Coruscant in ROTJ would be enough.

Other suggestions:

Make Dagobah (as viewed from space) look like it does in the ROTS deleted scene. I know it's better to make the PT match the OT but Empire Dagobah looks like it could be Hoth for god's sake! It's just so blue and washed out.

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i128/octolink_64/Dagobah_ep3.jpg

Give the head of Luke seen in Vader's mask on Dagobah sith eyes. I think that could really enhance this scene

I'd also like it if you could keep the one SE shot where the Wampa is flailing with his arm cut off. After Luke already defeats the Wampa there is no need to keep the tension and it would be like a little "reward" for the viewer to see the whole Wampa. You'd  have to fix the Wampa's face to match earlier shots though. Trash all the other SE Wampa footage though

I just watched magnoliafan's edit of Episode I. He did an awesome job making a coherent story line, while removing the bulk of unnecessary silliness. Only complaint is that the new subtitles were overly crude at times and alien voices were a bit awkward. He made Jar Jar genuinely funny at times, which was impressive. I look forward to seeing what you can do, adywan. I think "Lucas Apologists" would be the correct term for those who try to justify anything GL does...

"Lucas Apologists"...  Much better.  I just said the first thing I thought of.

I'm no Lucas Apologist but I never forget that the man DID give us Star Wars.  Just remember that when we bash him.  I hate what's been done with the prequels as much as the next guy but still watch them more than all other films (except for the OT of course).  Why?  Because its Star Wars.  Good or Bad, anything from that universe is better than just about any other.  Its tweaking that the PT needs.  I've been cutting and rearranging my own AOTC edit for weeks now and I'm pretty amazed at how much good there is in that movie.  When I tweak it, I give the PT what it desperately needs.... a diehard fan's input.  When poor editing choices and lazy dialogue are polished, the story is not bad at all.  I'm doing the movies in this order 2, 3, 1 because Ep. 1 needs the most work and the most thought and already has the most fan edits out there.  Ep. 3 needs the least amount of work so it will be a good buffer.  When I'm done, this will be the prequels I always wanted.  Just like Ady, these are for me and when I present them to you guys, I hope you like them but if not... well, I do, and that's my ultimate goal.  They're great practice movies since I'm about to start my editing classes at school, but I want my son to have GREAT prequels the way I had a great OT growing up.

Never forget that we'd all be Trekkies without George Lucas...... God that leaves a bad taste in my mouth ;(

I never liked this shot. When the Wampa screams after it lost its arm does not seem 'fit' in the scene. Its pace is off. Plus it feels redundant. We already see his arm falling off, I don't think we need to see the wampa again without the arm, just to dive in the point that he lost it.

With all the talk about the hologram, I thought you guys might enjoy this:

Cool Real Hologram

And on a side note, I would argue that Episode I was a masterpiece... minus a few small portions... I think the film is near perfect how it is.

But I suppose we shouldn't argue that here..

Two need major work, and Three can deal with some small face lifts like the videos I had posted on my youtube.

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

"(God, you're really gonna hate me when i get to the PT. I'm going to be ripping those movies to shreds, beyond all recognition. lol)"

So Ady, I really enjoy the PT movies as they are, but this is your chance to show me what I might be missing and how much better they could have been from your point of view. I couldn't hate the brother that brought us the OT Revisited. In fact the OT movies are the ones that I didn't enjoy watching much anymore, until you came along with these great edits. I'll definintely check out your PT edits, and if the movies are way better than they are now, then even better. If not, guess what, I'll still have the originals that are so great to me in their original state. A win-win for me.

.......and yah to Doubleofive.... I guess that I appreciate the guy....(George), that gave us all of these movies, and I believe it is his story. With that being said, I think he and Lucasfilm really jacked up with the OT releases, and I still can't believe with all of their capability to fix and restore these old films that they gave us those crappy dvd sets? So I'm somewhere in between a "Revisionist" and a "Lucas Apologist", one that really likes the PT, "just so you know who you are dealing with"....peace......

Did you watch the avi file or the DVD? The dvd copy has 4 sets of subtitles- the newest version (ADigitalMan '04) is much more refined and less crude- i.e. no Jar Jar swears. :P I can agree with you on the alien voices though. Personally, I got used to it within 20 minutes or so.

And @ Stewie, I'm interested to see what you're doing to the prequels. Can't wait to see the finished products.

Could say that the 3 big ones are the "impulse" engines (though you'd think the small ones would be) and having the extras on would be like "full impulse"? Heh. :)

why are a lot of people on this board under the illusion that the OT is not available in good quality?

(and yes, i have ALL the dvd full screen/widescreen/special edition releases also)..

i have it on laserdisc in at least 3 variations....definitive box set, the japanese box set, and the thx faces version..

i've had it for ages...........................and yes i have a high definition tv (32 inch)....................no my eyes aren't bad...

i don't see that the dvd versions are really that bad compared to the laserdisc, and people on this board, (ok excluding

x0, v8, and a few others), have transferred over the laserdisc version to that accursed dvd format......what else do

you people want???????????????????????????

yeah, i know most of you don't care about the SE versions of course, which are also *AHEM* freely 'available' in high definition formats..........

which blow away the SE dvd's.....

..............................its just a matter of time before those get de-SE'd down to the originals...............................

in fact if we can get the 35mm version of empire cleaned up maybe that might be it...preliminary tests of the scans are decent.....

see if you can tell the difference in that thread...

i just can't understand the griping, is it that hard to buy older longer lasting, and dirt cheap laserdiscs? or are people to biased against

older technology????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

by the way, if you can't tell, i'm a purist, i prefer the 77 star wars, and the 81 ep V, and 83 ep VI, but i don't mind watching the SE versions ('from time to time'), but i don't consider them as a replacement.............more like a fan edit..

Here's one (tiny) thing that's always bothered me... (Not sure if it's been mentioned, if so, sorry :) )

It looks like one of the claws of the Tauntaun model broke off... Makes it look a bit fake.

It's actually the webbed part between it's claws. So doesn't need fixing

Ady, I don't think he meant the claws themselves but the snow gap between the Tauntaun hand (paw) and it's body makes it look like it isn't attached.

Probably because the OT ISN'T available in good quality. The 2004 DVDs & the HD versions look like shit. They may have the cleaned up image but the colours are so bad (& the new additions of the emperor dialogue & Bobas new crappy voice in ESB & Hayden in ROTJ) they are un-watchable to me nowadays, as they are to hell of a lot of people. I have the laserdiscs & the GOUT and you cannot call them good quality at all but are just acceptable (they were good for their day but not in today's society). they are only a small step up from VHS. We live in the DVD & Hi-Def age and we get fobbed off with the inferior GOUT set. Not everyone wants to have sub standard quality, or have to take a step back into the dark ages of laserdisc just to have their favourite movies. The GOUT looks like shit on a LCD / Plasma HD TV. Having to zoom in makes the picture quality worse and having a movie of such significance as Star Wars in 4:3 letterbox today is an insult to fans. You can bet that if we ever get the OUT in the high quality formats fans deserve then you'll see a hell of a lot of laserdisc players  being sold.

Email the guy who posted it to YT.  Explain what you're doing and ask him if he can send you the original tape/disc.  Worst that will happen is he'll say "no."
