I am currently downloading the DVD-9 version at the moment, and I have a couple of questions:

1. I have just finished downloading the 38th part, whose size is 95,371 KB, while files 1 through 37 have a size of 102,400 KB. Is the smaller size of part 38 normal?

2. I'm trying to download part 39, but Rapidshare says:

"Your IP address is already downloading a file. Please wait until the download is completed."

I'm not downloading any other files while downloading part 39 of the movie. What's going on?

That's crapshare for ya.....just cancel your current download, clear your cache and retry the download. Easy-pessy

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I've cleared my cache, but Rapidshare's being an ass and doesn't want to change. It keeps saying that my IP address is downloading a file. Any other help?

Also, can someone answer my first question (above)?

Clearing the cache is for the part 38 problem.  As far as your IP address, try signing off/rebooting your machine.  Maybe your internet service will re-connect you on a different IP and you can continue.

How is clearing the cache going to solve the "part 38 problem"? That wasn't a problem, that was a question. I asked if the file size of part 38 is supposed to be smaller than the file size of parts 1-37.

As for rebooting my computer, then no, sadly that didn't help.

Oh, right...never mind.  Either way, with all RS downloads, every file is the same size except the last one which is usually smaller.  If you've got one in the middle that's a different size, it's a bad download.  Delete it and try again.

OK, I've deleted part 38 now.

However, I cannot re-download part 38 or download part 39 because RS is still insisting that my IP address is downloading a file at the moment. Could it be a temporary glitch on the Rapidshare site or does it have to do with my computer in particular?

Has this happened to anyone before?

Give it a little time.  Try again later.

I received this from Sluggo a few weeks ago and set it aside until this month.  I'm participating in a Sci-Fi movie challenge over on DVDTalk.com (100 movies in a month) and was saving this to watch.  I have to say I am impressed.  Great job.  I'm sending it to a few other participants as well.  I linked to this thread and a few people were blown away by the breadth of this fanedit.

Well I've had three more successful burns of the DVD9 from the "fixed" (magic-placebo-goggles-do-nothing-edition) ISO. They all work flawlessly on my PC.

Let's see if they still go to skip city on the other computers/players I test (again, sadly I have only four cheap players to test on and three computer setups) this afternoon...

Short of shelling out for another spindle of DL's and waiting a week for delivery, this is the best I'm going to get here I think.

I had a similar problem. It was telling me to "wait 100 minutes" for something like eight hours, then it finally said "wait 1 minute" and let me finish.

The signing off thing would only help if you have a dynamic IP address, I think that's what he's getting at. If your IP changes, the site might be "fooled" and think you're a new person, bypassing the glitch that thinks you're still downloading and need to wait your turn.

The best solution is to take a flash drive to a public computing lab and skip the waiting/one-file-at-a-time BS of RS. Or you could send them money, but that kind seems like a waste for just one fan edit.

RS just decides to be stupid for awhile and eventually fixes itself.

Well, after searching the web, I've found that I'm not the only one who has this problem. Some RS users have complained about the same thing at the same time as others have, which means it's the site's fault. TPG caused this problem, because it uses a transparent proxy, meaning that multiple TPG users connecting to Rapidshare all appear to have the same IP address, and somehow my IP address got mixed up into this mess (even though I don't use TPG). The IP address thst RS detects is my modem's static IP, not my computer's dynamic IP, which is why I can't just reboot my computer and use a new IP address. I've tried turning off my modem for the night to see if RS's message would change over night, but when I logged on this morning, it's still telling me the same thing. I guess it's just a bug on the website, right? Any suggestions on what to do, or is all I can do is to wait?

Rapidshare is still saying the same thing. This is an error on the site and not on my computer, right?

Is there anything I can do besides waiting?

If you are using firefox don't forget that you need to clear both caches. the internet cache in the cotnrol panel and the firefox one (tools> options>advanced>network) .if this doesn't work go into "control panel>internet options> general>temporary internet files>setting>view files" and delete everything out of there and try again. can't guarantee this will work but at least it will rule out your cache.

Nope, I only have IE.

Is it possible to become a Premium Member of RS and cancel the membership in a couple of days?

OK, maybe I'll just go with that. I'm having some serious problems with RS's free service.

Well, all my burns have been perfect thus far (since using the ISO with fix in Nero). They play on the various cheap players that wouldn't before (JVC, Toshiba) and the Pioneer. There is a tiny, split second pause noticeable if you look really really hard after "terminate her immediately." Great place for it too since Tarkin is just standing there looking stern anyway. ;)

Burning them at 8X speed didn't seem to make a difference, and I'm using Memorex.

On a small screen CRT (12 in) I can't even tell the difference in visual quality between the Purist and the DVD9... anyway, they both look great!

OK, so I finally just paid up and got a 3 Day Premium User account, and I've finally downloaded the whole movie! So, what do I do if I want to watch the movie on my computer?

Watching it on your computer is not the best way, but you can use Daemon Tools to mount the iso and watch it through that using your DVD software.  It might be laggy, but it'll work good enough if you really don't want to burn it to a DVD.

No, no, I DO want to burn it to DVD, but I still have to buy a Dual Layer burner, and for now I just want to check out the movie on my comp. So I just use Daemon Tools?

While you've got the time on your account, get the Single Layer version - the film is the same, it's just missing a couple of the extras of the DVD9.  Then you can have it on disc until you get a DL burner.  Also might want to grab the Purist version, just to have the whole set.

Thanks, but I should be getting the DL burner real soon, so I won't need the SL version.

What's different about the Purist Version?
