Idea: Some projects to consider...

Well, I am a newbie here. But here are a few projects I’d like to see someone consider. The Shadow (1994) Evidently this has been playing on Starz HD recently. Since all we have gotten is a crappy full frame dvd from universal. It would be nice to see this in widescreen glory. Maybe we could also dig up some bonus material? I have the OOP soundtrack. Needful Things (extended Turner Broadcast Version) It would be nice to track this down. I of-course would love to know if anyone has considered these projects before. I’d provide the artwork ;o)

The Shadow was widescreen on Laserdisc, (It also was the first DTS LD!) as is the UK DVD. But whether it's at the proper aspect ratio seems to be in doubt.

I'm surprised this didn't pop up on HD-DVD as Universal was redoing a lot of their old catalog titles up until the plug was pulled.

Where were you in '77?

If someone was to overlay the fullscreen image with the widescreen one, what aspect ratio would that measure out to? The pan & scan version appears to have more vertical information than if it was taken from a 1.66:1 source. (the full camera negative would be less wide than 1.66:1) Beauty and the Beast is an example of what a 1.66:1 film compares between the pan & scan vhs to matted to 1.85:1 on the dvd.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

It wouldn't be anything.  Neither would fill out the other to the corners, so you'd just get a cross-shaped image.

The very last image does lend some credibility to the claim of a wider aspect ratio...notice the left side is pan 'n scanned further to the left than the widescreen version actually shows.  So there's definitely image info available that isn't being presented on the 1:85 copy.
