There is a reason that deleted scenes are deleted... the movie is better off without them. They're fun to see as an extra, but not as part of the movie. In the case of SW, the main deleted scenes (Jabba and Biggs) were so poorly scripted and acted, it's no wonder they were deleted. That GL deleted them is testament to what a good director he was then. Putting them back in weakens the film and is proof that he has lost his eye for what's good and bad in a film.

Changing the special effects further ruins it by distancing it from itself and covering-up the original work. The film that won academy awards and changed everyone's thinking was the masterpiece... the SE is a weird and inferior mish-mash - it isn't the masterpiece and it didn't revolutionize anything. It's basically a fan-edit.
