Just a couple things from IMDB that I myself noticed too and they bug me. Many of the little details don't, but these do... maybe its something for you to consider.....

1. The original version has the Rebel fleet hyperspace out immediately before the end credits. Follow-up versions (THX re-release, Special Edition and DVD) all cut to the end credits before the hyperspace jump.

2. As they are are walking through cloud city, Leia is between Han and Lando. As they come around a corner, Han and Lando have switched places.

3. In the updated special edition TESB, as Han, Leia, Lando and Chewy are walking to the trap Vader has set, they walk past one of the new "visualizations" with a lift going up and a view of Bespin. Yet in the following shot, when you see Han holding his gun, the original browny white background is back in its place.

4. During the Battle for Hoth, several rebel soldiers fall down without being hit.

5. (This one REALLY bugs me) Several times, during the escape from Cloud City, stormtroopers are shot, but no blast marks are left on their armor. In addition, the intensity of the guns' blasters against the stormtroopers progressively decreases and increases during the episode.

6. (This one REALLY REALLY bugs the living hell out of me throughout the entire saga) The sounds for lasers and lightsabers change throughout the movie, even with the same weapon being used more than once in a scene. A good example is Han's blaster in the asteroid cave, which makes at least two completely different noises when firing. (Or lightsabers..... if each lightsaber sounds different, I can accept that. But when they clash, they should all sound the same. The lack of big clash noise ruined every lightsaber battle for me, and the fact that each battle sounded completely different from one another sucked, especially the Dooku scenes. But don't get me started on those cause i could go on for hours)

Just a couple for tonight. Just me being nitpicky.

If once you start down the dark path… wear comfortable shoes.

Ady evened out the lasers and sabers on ANH-R, so logically he'll be doing the same on TESB-R. That's still a ways off though, as he has to get through the basic color correction phase first.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

The squib easily seen on the stormtrooper's chest Leia shoots before boarding the elevator on cloud city always drives me nuts.

IMDB seems to be the only source on this, as no one I've seen in other threads can produce the evidence or video that the fleet ever went into hyperspace. I need to see if my dad still has the original CBS-FOX VHS copies of ESB and RotJ and see if this is true. I grew up on those copies though, and I don't remember that.

2. As they are are walking through cloud city, Leia is between Han and Lando. As they come around a corner, Han and Lando have switched places.

Never noticed that. Not sure how we could fix that...

This has been pointed out, but I hope that Ady uses my idea of having the window fade back to the brown wall or the brown wall actually be shutters that slide up as they are walking by (which gives Chewie something to look back at and be worried about), instead of removing the window completely or doing the impossible and putting the open window behind everyone in all of those shots.

I'm sure some of Ady's redone laser blasts will find their marks now, as we've seen in ANHR. Not sure about those particular sound effects. Maybe each saber brings its own clash sound to the fight?

Just a couple for tonight. Just me being nitpicky.

No, nitpicky is pointing out lights in matte paintings that aren't consistant, and panel colors on the Falcon. Just teasing, ImperialFighter! :-P

I have the original rental version of ESB and saw it on its first day of showing and that scene never existed (unless it was in the elusive 70mm version but there's been no evidence of this)

That got me thinking about the cave scene. I never could quite accept the "failure at the cave" despite what-ever reasons have been given in the past. So, played with idea of having a different face in the mask, to make the scene less cryptical as to its meaning.

How about Haydens face? NOPE!
Sebastians face? No, as Luke has never met him.
OBWans face? Possibilty, and open for debate.
Then it came to me!

To make scence of the scene, from the trilogy point of view when it was made, Darth Vaders mask should have had LEIA's face inside it!

-It would tell me Lukes training is being destracted by thoughts of his friends, at an early stage, hence Yodas later statement.

-Make Luke feel like he is on the path to the darkside, by destroying people who he loves by being the aggressor in combat.

-And ultimately, he would be able to destroy the only other Skywalker (the final hope) if he maintained his current way of thinking - that making the difference as to why he didnt need anymore training in Jedi, as he had felt it.

It would make total scence of the scene, to me, and give one of those wow, thats been changed for better moments, that i loved many times, during watching ANHrevisited.....

I have no problem understanding this scene. Yoda tells Luke he doesn't need his weapons but he takes them anyway. inside he then confronts vader who is the one person he truly hates. Just look how aggressive Luke is when fighting him, which is a path to the dark side. Then when the helmet explodes we see lukes face which is a representation of what he could become due to his fear and aggression (by taking the weapons with him): consumed by the dark side, just as Obi-Wan's apprentice. We see another shot in ROTJ that shows Luke what path he may be taking when he looks down at Vaders severed mechanical hand then looks at his own mechanical hand. he then realises what he could become if he lets his anger consume him, and then calmly deactivates his saber and throws it away. therefore not taking the path his father took.

Having Leia's face would not only be confusing to the audience but would totally destroy the surprise at the line "there is another" and the revelation about Leia's true identity in ROTJ. Changing something along these lines is something i'm steering well clear of because it is just the kind of thing that Lucas would do if he thought about it.

I figured the best way to make suggestions was to rewatch the film with a notepad and pen. Here are a few more suggestions that I have read and ones that I noticed in movie order (updated my previous list from post 548)

-Insert FX of Probe entering Hoth's atmosphere
Done
seven said:

-Fix Prop Droids crash landing (remove fire)
Done
seven said:

-Add more display to Snowspeeder's instrument panels
I'm only going to add subtle changes
seven said:

-Add Red hint to Bacta Tank for continuity
Doesn't need it as its inactive when coloured red
seven said:

-Fix Probe shooting at Chewbacca (closer to his location)
yeh thats bugged me too
seven said:

-Add Camera shake to Luke's Snowspeeder Crash
maybe
seven said:

-Fix AT-AT's laser shot hitting snow then rebel falling dead
all lasers are being redone so all troops that die will actually get hit
seven said:

-Fix Vader's Chest lights to move when entering Rebel base
yeh, i noticed that one. too static
seven said:

-Add FX enviroment reaction from MF engine thrust as it exits hanger
Not sure what can be done here without using 3D objects or it would look too fake
seven said:

-Fix MF engine glow from gold to blue
all engine glows are being redone
seven said:

-Add more maneuvers to MF as it is being chased by TIE Fighters
I don't think it needs anything here
seven said:

-Remove 'explosions/fire' of asteroids colliding, add debris (how do astroids catch fire?)
well it depends on what the asteroids are composed of. i think they are just flashes and not fire so i won't be changing any of those
seven said:

-Add missing push button off Luke's Lightsaber
where is this shot?
seven said:

-Add damage to asteroids from Bombers
maybe
seven said:

-Replace Tool in Han's Hand w/Blaster
yeh, thinking of doing that
seven said:

-Add Laser shot hitting Mynock
doesn't need it because its already been hit as the flash is in the first frame
seven said:

-Fix Luke's Lighsaber glow to match activation sound
again, where?
seven said:

-Fix Needa to a dead weight when being carried off
probably impossible to do
seven said:

-Fix Stunt man to look more like Luke (goes out window)
doesn't need it
seven said:

-Add MF landing gear retracting when taking off from Bespin
-Add Lightsaber Scortch marks on walls/railings
-Fix 3P0's hand location holdling severed leg
already thinking of doing these

As far as the effects and changes, you already know you and I are on the same page. Just keep one thing in mind - If you're adding any ships at the end with the Rebels, let's remember that the full Rebel fleet wasn't assembled in one place until ROTJ - "Hurry, the Alliance should be assembled by now." - To my mind that means that the ragtag group that escaped Hoth would not have yet rendezvoused with the Mon Calamari fleet until ROTJ....

The fleet will be about the same size it is now at the end. There will be no Calamari ships added for the reasons you mentioned about that we aren't seeing the full rebel fleet at the end of ESB

ImperialFighter, the underside of the AT-AT you mentioned i won't be touching, i'm afraid. too much work involved for something thats never bothered me too much. I'm surprised that will all the details you mentioned that are wrong you completely failed to mention the colour problems. lol. The AT-AT's are grey but the close up underside is bright white.

Also the brick red panels on the falcon is also another thing that i won't be doing

the animatronic blinking on the taun tauns is going to be almost impossible to fix because the head moves around so much. also adding facial movements. like i did for the cantina aliens, will also be almost impossible for the same reasons. I have tweaked a few movements and blink but not all can be redone

LOL, yeah, I put my hands up!

What can I say?, as someone who has always worked in a 'creative design' environment, I am cursed with an eye for detail....and as a complete fan of the original Star Wars trilogy, I'm just glad to be getting the chance to point out the little things that I've noticed over years, along with some additional speculative ideas....to someone who may actually incorporate them. I actually missed out on hearing about Adywan and his FIRST Star Wars edit till it was finalised, which is pretty annoying for me, as there was a 'couple of little things' (It's a curse I tell you!) that I would have liked to have mentioned on THAT particular thread too.... ;)

Nice to know that someone like Ady is actually doing some of everyone's wishes along the way, on something we so obviously care so much about!

mumbles_ - That was a very nice link to some 'mistakes' on 'Empire' that you put up in your second last post there, which had some that I hadn't heard of before.
I hope Adywan had a look!

No worries there, and the great thing is that Ady's 'Star Wars Revisited' edit gave me more than I could have ever wished for when I finally saw it.

Nice to get an idea of some more of your plans for some 'do's and don'ts' that you have in mind in that last post of yours Adywan.

I've just a little time for more pedantry today. ;) -

As far as that 'fixing of the Probe firing closer to his location' thing, I don't know if you plan to move the explosion nearer to Chewbacca, or the other way round, but...when the actual 'little' Chewbacca himself is seen popping up, he seems to be standing too high up, and with his arms by his sides, compared to the immediate previous 'close-up' of him where he is not so exposed out of his snowbunker, and has his arms well out at his sides. Could you amend the 'little' figure to match a little? I do like how his head 'bows' a little as he ducks back down though.

As far as the Falcon exiting the ice cavern entrance/exit, can you add a subtle 'shadow' to the proceedings as it goes over the ice block 'debris' on the ground underneath it at that point? It's sure going to be nice to see all the reverse views of the engine 'glows' given a 'blue' hue by the way!

Not sure if you were referring to the 'orange glow' that occurs on the large asteroid (which I previously brought up too) near the start of the sequence or not Ady, but if you were, then c'est la vie. Ditto to the lack of a lasershot on the Mynock, although I do think it could stand even the 'end' of one having been shot at it, to tie in with the sound effect. As far as not adding some red to certain Falcon shots, nor redoing the AT-AT's leg 'pieces'....I respect your decision, as there is indeed a bit of work to achieve both of these things, and you are doing wonders as it is.

Adyan, I think that the Lightsaber activation sound he's speaking of is when Luke exits the Wampa cave.

If you listen carefully, the sound effects there are not quite right.

On my copy from the Definitive Collection, the scene ends in a radial wipe to end credits. On my OOT-tape (recorded from TV, my THX tape was lost to a hungry VCR), it is a straight cut. The wipe sure reminds of a hyperspace jump, and I guess that it was the intended effect.

Just please don't open the windows near the landing platform more. I think it would be better if these were all closed, instead. The windows are pretty thin, but we can see other parts of the wall later, and then the wall appears to be quite thick.

Hey Ady, Fantastic work so far! So many great suggestions from the board members!

There is one SE change in ESB that I would like to see changed back to it's original if it hasn't been mentioned all ready. On cloud city when 3P0 walks away from company following the sound from a would be R2 unit into a unknown room. The voice "Who are you?" has been changed. Although it says the same thing, it's clearly a different voice. Is it possible to change that voice back to it's original?

Not sure if this one was mentioned, but I always thought the Falcon should cast a shadow on the snow in the shot where we see it fly past Luke (and Luke turns to see it as as he is walking back after destroying the AT-AT.)

Hi all,

Just read all the pages in this thread to catch up! After coming into the Ep4 thread pretty late, I'm a bit giddy joining up here when its still in the pre-production stage!

Just wanted to say Ady that ANHR was amazing! And thanks to you for all your hard work! And now on with ESBR, i've seen a few clips and am amazed by the colour passes. Can't believe how criminally blue the pictures are and why did Lucas released this sub-standard rubbish to the public? Profits huh?

Well here goes my few cents on ESBR:

I like all the suggestions thats been going on here so far, many has already been addressed so i won't repeat them. But there are a few other things that i want to share-

1. Not only the tauntaun have jerky movements, the AT-AT and AT-ST walkers have them as well.

2. IMHO the Imperial Walkers reveal should be left alone. i loved it when we first see little rocks falling onto artoo's head as the base is rumbling with some vibrations, then we see the dots in the horizon then we see the walkers in the macrobinoculars. The anticipation and tension is just spot on. The whole Hoth attack scene is one of the best in film history (not just star wars). If anything is changed, even in the best of intentions, it might change things.

3. Luke and Leia kiss. Obviously its up to Adywan but this kiss is in disagreement to all nations and all cultures including the US and UK. And its a U-rated film! I don't think we (especially the Parents amongst us) are comfortable with our kids watching this. I favour a complete cut, but i don't know how that will be done though, even to tone it down.

I remember Luke and Leia sayig in ROTJ that "they've always known" upon finding out the truth. Even though Luke liked Leia in ANH, he never went further than that and so did Leia as something was holding them back. Thoughts anyone?

4. IMHO the rebel fleet at the end is fine. Its just great to see them for the first time at the end of the film and in the Saga. It sort of gave me the shivers somehow. Despite the sad end to the film, there is still hope. Having more ships in would just spoil the scene.

5. At Hoth there are hardly any Star Destroyers surrounding the planet. In the beginning of Ep1 TPM we see a very believable planetary blockade on Naboo. It just seems empty in Ep5 especially when the rebels try to escape we hardly see any other star destroyers and rebel ships.

6. Since the decision has already been made about the windows of the Cloud City I'll mention something else...Doesn't anyone notice that a ship (yes at least one ship!) passes through every single window of Cloud City when we see a window in every scene??? A ship passing through one window is fine but every single window??!! Its kind of like everytime i look out each window of my house, hey presto! A ship flies past it!!!

Even i don't like the interior shots. As someone already said- The suspense suffers from opening the place up and the orange lighting distracts from the white interiors. It also takes away the claustrophobic feel of the original, especially the tension that builds up to Vader and Boba Fett reveal in the dining room.

IMO I don't agree with the extra cloud city scenes. As many fans have said the original ESB is perfect as it is albeit some minor changes. The new extra scenes are just a waste of time. The scene of the Falcon flying through it is just too computer-gamey effects. It spoils the pacing. Even i don't agree with the scene we see of the crowds listening to Lando's announcement that the empire is taking over (heh they're all suddenly looking up at the same time to the same spot in the sky like Lemmings!) What is the point of that scene?! Its again like ILM showing what we can do! Completely unecessary.

As for the sky traffic, don't you think there should be time for the traffic to appear in the sky after Lando makes his announcement? how can it be there so quickly?

7. Lastly about Vader seeing a picture of Padme in his chamber? I don't know if thats in the 2004 DVDs but i'll faint if it is! How lame. It is at least 20 years after ROTS and Vader is well over it! He is deep into the Dark Side and he is 'married' to the force as Palpatine said in the novels (i don't remember which one). The Dark Side of the Force makes you forget the good things in life, your loved ones etc, and when Vader finally turns back to the Light in ROTJ, in the novel he suddenly remembers his Wife...and Obi-Wan too...and Yoda. So putting that picture there spoils the whole thing.

/End rant

Adywan as you mentioned that you wanted a CG Yoda in Ep1, i thought that it has been done by ILM in the latest DVD discs?

Gotta go now to sleep. Till then, the Force be with you!

You know what? I think you were right. I would have bet the farm that the fleet went into hyperspace but I just went back to my CBS/FOX set and sure enough, it ALMOST seems like they jump. In fact though, its the very very quick iris in wipe that threw me. I was so certain but its been a few years since I've even put those in the VCR. I humbly stand corrected.

Its amazing though that we're all nitpicking the color corrections and what-not. I grew up watching the CBS/FOX versions and remember thinking how clear Jedi looked compared to ANH (which of course was just STAR WARS back then). When the THX versions came out, I was so broke I couldn't afford them and I caught about 20 minutes of it at a friend of a friend's house. I was STUNNED at how much better they looked. I was obsessed with finding the money to buy them. But today, it hurts my eyes to even look at a VCR tape. I have a 50' Plazma 1080 and have become so accustomed to high quality that even ANH:R bugs me cause I don't have it in Full HD. How spoiled my son will be. He actually knows a little bit about the differences of ANH:R and keeps asking me "When is that man going to make the new Empire Strikes back?" He's only 6 and he's becoming a Star Wars geek just like his dear ol' dad. I was only 5 when ESB came out and I've been hooked ever since. Its weird to think that he'll never know what it was like all those years just imagining what the prequels would be like and when they would ever come. He'll always know the prequels, clone wars, live action show, comics, books, etc etc. There was a time that all we really had were 6 hours of the same movies over and over. Sure, there were the old Marvel comics and the Han Solo books but that wasn't enough and were sub-par at best. I remember the dry spell of the late 80's and early 90's. That was terrible for Star Wars Fandom. ANY speck of new things was examined and reexamined because there was nothing else. AND THEN.... Timothy Zahn. I'm not a huge huge fan of the books but they ushered in a new era. They were okay in my opinion but the fact that there were 3 big books and the series was taken very serious made them golden in my eyes. Then Darkhorse made their adaptations and it just snowballed from there.

This rant was brought about by watching my old tape. I just love these movies because they remind me of different times in my life that I'd love to hold onto forever. I don't understand exactly why I love them so much and may never have a good answer. I do know, that the work being done here means a lot to me and to every member of this board. We're not jealous of Ady because he has the skills to do what most of us do not, we're enthralled that our Fandom has someone in it with the same affection for this as we do but has the skills to do what we all daydream about. I'm not going to give you any more kudos because I've done it in the past, but I will say that if you somehow decide to follow through with your cruel (oh so cruel) April's Fool's charade or maybe keel over dead, or get hit by a herd of jackalopes, or maybe get married to a Trekkie who has you P-whipped and makes you try and do "Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home : Revisited" instead of doing this project, then I will learn very quickly how to do this shit myself. This NEEDS to be done. "ImperialFighter" cracks me up because he's so damn detail oriented that he makes me seem almost like an amateur Star Wars enthusiast. HE needs this. I need this. We all need this.

I hate the internet sometimes but never when I come here.

Peace

The only problem with Luke & Leia's kiss is that people now look at it with the benefit of hindsight. In the context of the film, with what the characters knew at that point in time, it made perfect sense. Remember, Leia was arguing with Han over THEIR feelings for each other. She just kissed Luke just to piss Han off. And it worked.

That aside, even Luke's and Leia's suspicions and feelings about each other didn't start to reveal themselves until they were escaping from Bespin - at the earliest - and even at that, it was just Luke using the Force to call to Leia out of desperation, not sibling bonding. Leia then kissing Luke on the Falcon was just "caregiver instinct" because of the shape he was in, not sexual tension.

Obi-Wan:
"You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view."

Qui-Gon:
"Your focus determines your reality."

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

QUOTE IMO I don't agree with the extra cloud city scenes.

Wow, I don't agree with a word of that!

mumbles_ - That was a very nice link to some 'mistakes' on 'Empire' that you put up in your second last post there, which had some that I hadn't heard of before.
I hope Adywan had a look!

thanks. i don't know how much we can trust stuff on imdb.com but i'm willing to bet just as much as something posted on wikipedia. all that being said, i think empire strikes back special editions were the best of the 3. they weren't overly offensive to my fanboy senses. thanks in advance to Adywan for continuing work on such a great project.

The only problem with Luke & Leia's kiss is that people now look at it with the benefit of hindsight. In the context of the film, with what the characters knew at that point in time, it made perfect sense. Remember, Leia was arguing with Han over THEIR feelings for each other. She just kissed Luke just to piss Han off. And it worked.

Well said Ziz.

also: "this kiss is in disagreement to all nations and all cultures including the US and UK."
I mean, WTF? It's a bloody KISS.

About the kiss, as DarthBO said, come on, it's just a kiss. I have no problem with that kiss. It works perfectly in that scene, it was meant to piss Han off.

In fact, I disagree with everything Commander Bane said except that the Hoth blockade could have more ships.

I'm sorry to hear about the tauntaut animatronics though. Oh well, I'll live :D
