I personaly don't think we see the probe land twice. My theory is that the 2nd impact is what Luke says it is, a meteorite. I might be mistaken but doen't someone else on Hoth mention all the meteorite activity in the system.

Ady, great wotk so far but the tauntauns facial movement still looks a little fake. A little head movement or more blinks might help.
