Just wanted to say this looks great. I've always thought that Raiders was far superior to Tempe of Doom - and reading this thread is like reading the list of exactly what's wrong with it! Can't wait to see the result, it looks like it'll be absolutely terrific!

Just wanted to give a quick update and say that the movie is finished, everything turned out great. I'm really, really pleased with it. And now I just have to learn how to author a DVD. I experimented with creating menus today. So, I'm gonna keep working on it.

Two things:

1) Need to know if anyone is interested in creating a DVD cover for this.

2) Need to know if anyone is interested in starting a PIF chain.

Let me know...

Thanks,

Yes. And I download torrents all the time, but I've never actually submitted one. So, I hope that goes smoothly. :) It's funny, as many years as I've been on these boards and working on Star Wars, I've never gotten to the point of actually releasing something. It's like making it to the next level of a video game. Haha...

Now I have to figure out how to do all this.

I'm thinking about releasing an XVID first.

More in terms of completing the video game I guess and knowing the great feeling of accomplishing a great task? Or more due to the fact all the projects are one huge video game and thereby completing a certain level said one is finished?
At least you're working on this project with the OAR version so that's what matters most.
What you should do is watch GUNGA DIN and Temple of Doom back to back if need be. Therefore if the need arises you can change this fan edit more to reflect the films. If you want to of course. Maybe have Temple of Doom feel more like an actual sequel or something? It does already in the tonality and everything.
Hell, just watch GUNGA DIN. It's a great 1939 film.

What's with the obsession with Gunga Din? Certainly, it's a great movie, but why have this movie compliment that one? I think it already does to some extent, but it just seems unnecessary.

My goal for this project is to compliment Raiders. Not Gunga Din.

Doing what you're suggesting, DarkGryphon, would be like editing Star Wars to compliment The Wizard of Oz.

If you've done some research about it, it was one of the films which heavily influenced and inspired Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Don't believe me? Buy or borrow The Complete Making of Indiana Jones book. I bought the Oversize/Coffee Table book and it's a great read.
ToD already compliments Gunga Din to some extent. There's even a throwaway line in the dinner scene which harkens the events of Gunga Din.
Could also be my obsession for older films too? Never entirely know.

My suggestion anyway InfoDroid is to watch Gunga Din and then ToD back-to-back. Don't even need to have each other compliment theirselves. Just an excuse to watch Gunga Din.

This seems like a very poor "fan-edit" as it is and seems more personal compared to an actual one. Not interested in the slightest.

Interesting tactic: repeatedly state that the faneditor is doing something pointless, then ask him to do an edit of something *you* would like to see.

IMO, Raiders of the Lost Ark should NOT be retitled to add "Indiana Jones and the..." because Indy himself is one of the raiders. He's after the ark too, he just has better motives for acquiring it.

True, the film itself wasn't retitled as was the DVD case, I'm pretty sure the DVD menu screen titles it "IJatRotLA"? While I can make my own cover easily, I can't easily replace the menu screen. And honestly, that's why I have yet to add RotLA to my DVD collection!

If I may go off on a tangent here: It drives me absolutely crazy when DVD menu screens give away too much of the film. Believe it or not, someone will actually be watching the film for the first time. Ridiculous to give it away. IIRC, the menu screen for "Raiders" is one of the worst offenders. Pretty much takes you scene-by-scene through the film. Fortunately my kids know that these menus can give things away and are always quick to say, "Hurry up and start it! I don't want to see too much!" Not that they've seen the Indiana Jones films, but it is a common occurrence.

Oh, and I can help PIF it, from the top or wherever you need me in the structure. I'm in the US but can mail internationally.

As I've said before, the films should've been slightly longer, ToD taken place in 1934 instead of 1935 and Short Round is alright by me. Yeah Willie Scott gets on my nerves the same way she does Indiana.

So stick with what you're best at. Re-edit the Star Wars films to your hearts content but of course I vastly prefer Indiana Jones compared to the former.

Fan edits are personal projects rather than the commercial ones you see in the cinemas anyway. They use the original movies as a canvas to explore a different point of view, so no fan edit can be construed as poor - poorly executed perhaps, but if the ideas are sound, then there wouldn't be any problem with slightly off execution.

Besides, what's the difference between a personal fan edit and a 'proper' fan edit? Don't they both use personal choices to hopefully make a better movie? For instance, why does ToD need to take place exactly 2 years before Raiders? It's a prequel episode and could have taken part 2 weeks before Raiders for all I care...it's just a story set before Raiders. Surely, if you had edited it to be 1934 instead of 1935, that would be a personal choice, not the correct one...?

Yes, I know all about the Gunga Din/Temple of Doom connection and do own that book as well. The similarities are quite obvious to anyone who's seen both films, but I just don't see the need to edit Temple of Doom to fit more with Gunga Din. They're movies that work quite well played back to back as it is. No need to have Indiana Jones revealed to be the grandson of one of the guys from Gunga Din or anything like that. And, yes, I am exaggerating. :)

"Indy...I am your...GRANDfather!"

Hell, Sean Connery was in "The Man Who Would Be King", let's throw that in there as well!

The Man Who Would be King was a great book and movie.
What about a preservation of Secret of the Incas? I don't even think it's on DVD in any region. What about an OAR preservation for High Road to China also?
It is my consideration Willie Scott is the Jar Jar of ToD, not Short Round.

She is.

And Short Round is the equivalent of Jake Lloyd. Except that Short Round could kick Jake Lloyd's ass. He knows karate.

UPDATE: Still working on the menus...I tested a version tonight on my DVD player and I need to make a few adjustments...one more day and it should be done.

I know at least the Rapidshare bit is taken care of. I'm not sure about other avenues.
