on that note, it did remind me slightly of Friends during season 10 when they would just stand around grinning nostalgically instead of actually acting....

oh well....i dont think any film can match up to the last crusade, quite a pedastil to match.

how is progress anyhow? yours is the project i talk about most at uni, and is what gains most interest overall!

sorry, i don't want to get too far off topic,
but are you kidding me?

'the last crusade' was one of the most boring/derivative films ever made,
and was almost worse than 'temple of doom'....oh gee, lets have nazis again,
and lets go after a religious artifact....how original? are you kidding?
they completely wasted sean connery..

i liked crystal skulls, because they went in a different direction,
ok, it wasn't great, but it was much better than the travesty that
was 'last crusade'....what a horrible way to end a trilogy..

and yes, there will be a 5th indy movie, unfortunately it will probably
have shia in it...ughhhhhhhhhhh....

Well, to top off my week, now I've lost an entire 500gb hard drive...the one that had all my edit stuff on it.

The good thing is it's not a complete tragedy because TJDavis has everything backed up on his computer up in Indiana. But right now, he's vacationing in Florida. :(

So, it's gonna take some time.

Jeez...first Indy, now this. Maybe it's time to hang it up?

No, don't stop! Look at it this way: life must always be in balance. All the bad luck you get now means something amazing must be coming. :D
Perhaps lots and lots of praise for a certain reborn saga...

(plus the new indy wasn't thát bad... sure surviving a nuclear explosion was over the top, and we got a bit too much aliens, but there were some classic indy moments as well)

Yes "classic" moments like CGI monkeys and CGI molehills that are impossible to edit out. ;)

I'm just mad at Lucas right now. He's like having an alcoholic relative. He used to be great, but now I fear for sanity. It's really frustrating trying to repair the damage he keeps doing to his own work. It is not an easy challenge.

And losing an entire hard drive doesn't help.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Bo. I appreciate it. :)

I have to jump in in defence of Indy 4. I went in with low expectations, after seeing what Lucas did to Star Wars, and was very pleasantly surprised. It's no Raiders of the Lost Ark but it's a ways ahead of Temple of Doom and at times comes quite close to Last Crusade. I hope they make a fifth one and I see Shia whatshisname becoming quite a star. Sure, the action is a bit over-the-top (and I think the car chase in the jungle could have been cut in half) but hey, it's Indiana Jones!

and yeah, I had almost forgotten about the moles... must've blocked it out.
(I still don't get how they promoted this film as using little CGI, but still opening with a crappy looking CGI mole...)

Still, good luck on getting your backups back... I hope it won't be too much of a bitch to transfer.

So, I saw it a second time last night. And...it was actually pretty good. I have to admit. Maybe I just knew what to expect this time. You're right, it comes close to Crusade.

It's been an interesting week. The good news is, the hard drive I lost has miraculously popped back up again in Windows Explorer...apparently without any problems. The bad news is, as of yesterday my computer won't turn on at all anymore.

I'm pretty sure it's the power supply that's gone bad. That would explain the previous loss of power to the hard drive. The computer turned on for like 30 seconds and then it was just...off. And then there was a burning electrical smell. Yeah, it was real nice.

The thing that sucks is that I had been working on an "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" edit while TJDavis was on vacation, and it turned out GREAT! I just had a few finishing touches to put on it before my computer took a dive. I'll release it to the community once I get everything up and running again.

In other news, TJ and I actually met for the first time in person while he was vacationing in Florida. After working on this thing together and talking online and on the phone for almost three years now, it was really cool to finally meet. We went to see Indy 4, and had a laugh over all the CGI gophers and monkeys. LOL!

We also recommitted to really hitting this edit hard when he gets back to finally finish this thing so we can be "free of the carbonite" so to speak. :-)

ooh. temple of doom edit? what have you done with it? i think it suffers from a bit of cheesey dialogue, and an annoying blonde woman...

i know you said previously that you wouldnt consider an indiana jones IV reborn, but i reckon it just needs shaving a bit.

enough of that, just want to say im really glad your project is going well and you guys are ok.

Reborn is waiting on me to finish remodeling my living room so I can get the computer hooked back up to the surround system.

I was trying to finish the coruscant chase scene when my wife decided it was time to remodel. :)

The good news is that scene is 95% finished. Just some small tweaks with the individual channel levels and it should be good. I have about 15 minutes of AOTC footage to go through and see if it's possible to replace the music and retain the center channel. After that we should have a rough cut of the first half.

Might be tough to get ID away from Indiana Jones though.......................

haha, yeah you may have to let him get it out of his system. lets just hope willow 2 doesnt come out before youve finished.

if you guys need any help with stuff im happy to lend a hand. im dabbling with final cut, but only on an experimental level.:p

about a year ago on myspace i offered to make some cover art but never actually went through with it after things went a bit quiet. im changing my degree from fine art to illustration this year so will be working on more drawing/painting stuff so it would be quiet easy to knock something out in my style.

if you could give me some pointers on what emphasis and imagery/scenes/characters you would like the offer is still open.

good luck with the rebuilding.

Hmmmm... I wasn't going to bring this up, but I've been working on a set of covers for the Reborn saga to complement my Revisited series. I haven't decided on how to treat the individual movies — if I can work up some skillz I'll attempt an original image for each one — but here's the WIP of the 3-disc box. The images are by Simon Zoltán (http://simonz.co.hu); the rest is by me.

ETA: Ben_danger, if you'd like, I could use whatever cover art you come up with for my covers.

Wow! Cool covers!

You guys don't know how bad we want to see this done. Real life just keeps getting in the way.

When we started this project we really had no idea how much work would be involved to finish it up to the standards we wanted. I spent about six weeks on just the Zam speeder chase scene. Throwing away the entire soundtrack on a six minute action sequence and rebuilding it in 5.1 from the ground up might not have been the best idea. :)

TJDavis did an incredible job on the sound work for that Coruscant chase. I threw the idea out there that it would be really great if we could scrap the audio in that entire scene (knowing full well that was impossible) so that we could interject some REAL Star Wars action music in there from the OT... and he totally floored me when he actually pulled it off...and pulled it off in a way that's so close to the original mix that you'd almost never know it was completely redone. We took the music from the sail barge duel in ROTJ and it's just sooo cool. It feels so much more like Star Wars now. It's great, I can't wait for you guys to hear it.

That cover is amazing, RoccondilRinon!

I'm a huge fan of DVD cover art. So, anything that anyone wants to submit would be way more than welcome....

I know you guys are kind of flying blind here because you're not really sure what to expect. And it's hard for me to explain without you actually seeing it. I think the trailers really show what we're emphasizing in each one though.

The focus of Reborn centers around the father and the son as the central characters and hinges on the fact that both Luke and Anakin are presented with essentially the same path, they just happen to make different choices.

Also, keep in mind that film one, "Star Wars: Reborn" will retell the events of ANH and AOTC.

Then, film two "The Empire Strikes Back: Reborn" will feature ESB and the first half of ROTS.

And film three, "Return of the Jedi: Reborn" will include ROTJ and the second half of ROTS.

The covers should reflect those combinations...

But, yeah, Guys...have at it! We'd love to see anything you can come up with! :)

Just double-checking a few things then: mainly, are you still going to use a very condensed TPM as the prologue to the first movie? Also, at what point in ROTS does ESB:R end and ROTJ:R begin?

I'd also really love to know how you're handling the crawls, but if you'd rather keep that a secret I can understand. :p

I just HAD to register to encourage you guys to keep on going! Although i already have done some video editing a few years ago, i am sure i can't imagine how tedious this huge load of work must be. But your ambitiout goal of this edit inspires me in many ways and i really wish you all the best... to have the spirit for continuing this, even though there may be some problems on the way.

The amount of time you must have invested in this project already has my upmost appreciation.

I can't wait for the day to see this in its entirety. Please don't make me wait in vain. ;)

Wow, thanks, Deathcrow! That's probably the kindest message I've ever received! Welcome to the boards. I'm so glad people are still looking forward to this after three years of waiting. I feel a responsibility to you guys to get this finished.

And yes, Roccon, we'll be including the events of TPM in a prologue at the beginning.

As far as ROTS, we're splitting it at the scene of Anakin/Padme staring out at the Coruscant sunset. I think it's referred to as the "Padme's Ruminations" scene, so Empire ends on a cliffhanger for all the characters.

ROTJ picks up there and then starts with the duel in Palpatine's office, confirming in the opening scene that Vader was not lying at the end of ESB, that Anakin is, in fact, Darth Vader.
