Imgburn isn't the best for creating an ISO. Sometimes it can changed IFO files & cause problems. It a bug with the program. Thats why i always use Pgcedit to create an ISO and just use IMGburn for burning the disc

Okay. I just ran QuickPar on the fileset with the fix files you just uploaded, and I'm still getting 5 blocks missing on VTS_01_0.VOB. This file doesn't appear to be included in that last rar.

EDIT: ok i have a way of checking the files. First you need to apply the fix for the NTSC. just drag the files (in the fix folder in the DVD-rom) into the VIDEO_TS folder and overwrite the original files.

once you have done this you need to download and install QUICKPAR (unfortunately this this prog is windows only). Mac users download MACPAR Deluxe
once installed download THIS file and place it into the VIDEO_TS folder. Open Quickpar (or macpar)and load the par2 file. This will now scan the files and report any errors. Once the scan is complete if you can let me know the results then i can post the files to fix it

Interesting. I'm not a torrenter [?], but I decided to run QuickPar just for fun anyway. I applied the fix last week, and ImgBurn certainly does create a workable disc with the layer break where it's supposed to be, but I wanted the assurance.

And I've got errors in VIDEO_TS.BUP and VIDEO_TS.IFO.

This being downloaded straight from a.b.sw and the fix applied immediately.

So I'll be paying attention for fixes to the torrented version!

(Thanks, Adywan, for your immense patience with the many of us...!)

Hi Ady, first thanks so much for the DVD9 version

negative1 thanks for the torrent, but you should have left the rar files as they where when you first downloaded them, it's a little late to start another torrent the damage is done.

Ady Quickpar is still reporting the same error, thankfully only this one file

VTS_01_0.VOB (47/52 blocks) is still reporting the same error

I followed all your instructions to the T

was this tested on your unpacked DVD before it was run in PCGedit to create your fixed ISO because those 2 files will be slightly different before its run in that program to create the ISO anyway.

Good to hear that the one i posted and with the fix applied it all work ok. This fix is just for the torrents not the one off newsgroups

aghhh. I screwed up. its too big to post. hang on there is another way around this. It is just 7 blocks you need?

Five blocks, on VTS_01_0.VOB. I'm not aware if there's a way to tell you which five.

Ok heres the correct fix (only slightly different way of going round it). ONLY NEEDED FOR THE TORRENT DOWLOAD:

first make sure you have added the NTSC fix files from the DVD-ROM folder into your VIDEO_TS folder then download this file:
EXTRA PAR2 FILE
once downloaded unpack the rar file and put the file it contains into the VIDEO_TS folder .

now right click on the par2 file in the VIDEO_TS folder and select "open with.." and select "quickpar" (you may have to browse if it isn't in the list". let it scan all the files and say "ready to repair using...." . Click on "Repair" and sit back. the repair will take a while depending on your setup. Once its has finished repairing then close the program and make sure you take any par2 files out of the VIDEO_TS folder but DON'T put them in your DVD folder. place them elsewhere on your PC. Also make sure you delete any files that have a .1 extension in the VIDEO_TS folder too.

Now you need Pcgedit. install pcgedit if you haven't already got it. open it and select "file> open DVD" and select the VIDEO_TS folder that you have added the fix to. now pgcedit will start scanning the disc and a new box pops up. don't do anything until you see the "close" button that will appear when the scan is done.
Once this is done goto "file>BURN DVD/ CREATE ISO" and select that. A new box will pop up saying "DVD saved ok". Click ok.
Now in the next box that appears make sure DL media type is selected as "Double layer DVD+R". Goto "output ISO" and select where you want the ISO file to be stored ready for burning later. Just name the "volume label" star wars 4" or anything you want.
once you have done this click "ok"
Another small box will pop up telling you there are other folder and if you want to burn them. Just click "yes"
Next another box will appear. This is the layer break box. In the top section of the box "cell 28" should be highlighted blue. If one of the others is highlighted just click on the line containing "cell 28" then click "OK"

Your new ISO will be created

You can then burn the ISO image file with Imgburn (best one to use for windows users and it is included in the DVD-ROM folder. Not sure if there is a mac version or the version in the folder works an MAC) or nero or similar

if you use imgburn make sure that when the layer break box pops up when you go to burn the disc you highlight the layer break and make sure that "don't update IFO's" (it says something like that but can't remember) box is ticked and burn

ALL should be fine now and i updated the last fix post in case it caused any confusion. If you get any errors while creating the ISO with pgcedit then you ahve done something wrong in the first steps.

I can't get PgcEdit to work on Mac, it just closes every time I try to open it ... any way I can do this without it?

WOW but you're quick!

This was after two or three go-throughs with PGCedit. So what I'm inferring is that my slightly-off files weren't off after all. Just slightly modified in an expected fashion.

Good to hear that the one i posted and with the fix applied it all work ok. This fix is just for the torrents not the one off newsgroups

But hey! At least I'm no longer wondering if I could have accidentally done something wrong. The disc works, and works well, and I'm delighted to have the music-only track.

Thanks again for your patience!

I've looked for the DVD9 ISO and can't find it. Have you put it up yet?
Thanks.

I have that version of Pgcedit, it just won't load on my Mac, even after following all the instructions.

I'll just do it without creating an image - I burned my previous copy with the folders without creating an image and it worked fine minus the obvious problem we're all trying to fix now.

--edit--

Works great now. The extended Alderaan is cool, but I'm glad you left it out - it would have felt a bit out-of-place and gratuitous. But it's nice to finally know how Jar Jar ended up. :-)

And I'm quite impressed at what you were able to do with the Luke/Biggs scene - looks quite nice. If only we could get that and the other two (Luke seeing the battle and Luke going to Anchorhead) restored nicely enough to reintegrate into the movie.

I'm planning on using my own burning program when I do burn, but Imgburn isn't on my torrented copy. Now THAT doesn't make sense.

I've got a "star.wars.IV.revisited..NTSC.DVD-9. .NFO" but no Imgburn.

Thankfully I downloaded the DVD9 from a.b.starwars and avoided this whole headache with the torrents, but I was reading through this thread and just wanted to say that you're truly a great guy Ady... not only are you an FX, editing, and computer wizard, but you're also available for tech support 24/7.

You truly go above and beyond what should be expected of you.

P.S. Looking forward to finding that second easter egg... only came across one so far.

Is the usenet version from approx. 15 days ago ok? According to my BT client it has the same checksum as the ISO file from the most recent torrent...

There was also something on usenet called "ntsc fix for imgburn.rar" which is a totally different size compared to "VIDEO_TS_files_fixed.rar" from the most recent torrent.

Not really sure what to do with these different fixes at this point.

PS- Anyone have a demonoid invite pretty please? I can access the new torrents, but not the old ones. Strange policy.

They're both quite good, with the alternate take on the Death Star escape being my favourite. The alternate opening was great, although after the campaign sticker on the back of the Star Destroyer in "Family Guy," I don't think any other slogan could have measured up.

Must admit, though, that I cheated --- examined the DVD in the VLC Player on a PC, and brushed the mouse around slowly until the links lit up. Then I went back to those menus with a standalone player.

if you have the version from usenet then your file is fine. Just burn the iso with nero or your burning software and it will play fine. the "ntsc fix for imgburn.rar" posted to usenet was a fix for people having problems burning it with imgburn and nothing more. The ohter files you mentioned were for an unpacked dvd torrent, that has now been deleted. the new ISO torrent is the one from usenet i think.

I haven't tested the disc yet, but QuickPar said everything was dandy, so I'm assuming I'm all set. I made a slight deviation from the posted instructions and set the layer break seamless, which I usually do for all my dual-layers. I'll let you know how that works out.

Ady, thanks for your tireless efforts, both in creating the edit and in helping everyone through their technical difficulties.
