VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB

And the menus on my test ISO were black and white, which is really weird.

EDIT: I'm going to be leaving really soon, so someone else is going to need to test the fix when it comes.

Are those the problem files? and did you apply the NTSC fix first because they may come up as damaged if that hasn't been applied first

I applied the fix, those are the only damaged files.

I got these incorrect/damaged files using MacPar Deluxe (I did apply the NTSC fix):

VTS_01_0.VOB - Invalid checksum and cannot be restored

And at the bottom of the window:

Total: 175 / Good: 172 / Need: 7 blocks = 19,784,464 bytes
Cannot restore.

It didn't check VIDEO_TS.IFO or VIDEO_TS.BUP at all, though - but I don't doubt that doubleofive's analysis is correct. I'll run it again to make sure I get the same thing.

---edit---

Yep, same thing second time through.

Ok i'm confused now. The people who downloaded the torrent that's faulty say they have 3 folders but you have downloaded a torrent that has 4. Can everyone who has the problem tell me where they got the torrent from .

I haven't used macpar so i don't know how it works but you say it didn't check VIDEO_TS.IFO or VIDEO_TS.BUP at all? it should check that all files are correct, as quickpar does

Downloaded the NTSC torrent, applied the fix file unpacked from the included rar file (yes, it was in teh DVD_ROM folder), but I'm still having menu problems on the special features menu--the one with Jabba scenes, etc. listed. Screen freezes before all text buttons move into place. Can't click on anything and player disc locks up. Have to stop, then restart playing from beginning...

Thought it might be a bad burn so burned a second +DL disc, but got the same issues on same menu screens....

Waiting for another fix before I make a third coaster. I'm not tech savvy enough to know what is wrong structure-wise with the disc files, so I hope that a fix that a noob like me can apply will be made available shortly.

ADY, I appreciate your efforts.

UPDATE: Just read back a page and see that I'm not alone. Since someone else has run your program and reported which files are damaged to you, I'll sit tight until a solution is found.

got it from negative 1, I suppose, since he first put it on for torrent (?) I think my tracker is from mininova. I don't pretend to know how torrents work, but stumble through and am pleased when they do.

have you checked the files with what i posted earlier today? The par2 file check?

Am currently doing a file and settings transfer from my old XP desktop to my new quadcore vista desktop (wish me luck on the whole vista thing...) Can't do anything on either machine for several more hours. Just hopped on my laptop to check email and read over this thread to see if I was alone in my disc errors.

All that is to say, I can't run you PAR2 program to tell you anything. I'm sure someone else will chime in soon, though.

Its a file that is posted to newgroups along with a file that will enable you to check and repair any damaged files and makes sure you have the correct files. just read my post earlier. it explains exactly what to do to see if your DVD has been changed in any way from the original DVD i posted

EDIT: ok i have a way of checking the files. First you need to apply the fix for the NTSC. just drag the files (in the fix folder in the DVD-rom) into the VIDEO_TS folder and overwrite the original files.

once you have done this you need to download and install QUICKPAR (unfortunately this this prog is windows only). Mac users download MACPAR Deluxe
once installed download THIS file and place it into the VIDEO_TS folder. Open Quickpar (or macpar)and load the par2 file. This will now scan the files and report any errors. Once the scan is complete if you can let me know the results then i can post the files to fix it

I followed all of the above instructions precisely, and here are the results I got:

3 damaged files (need 7 more blocks):
VIDEO_TS.BUP (0/1 blocks)
VIDEO_TS.IFO (0/1 blocks)
VTS_01_0.VOB (47/52 blocks)

Hopefully that's the info you were looking for.

Well i can guarantee it isn't a problem with the original. i have tested it on several software and set-top players without any problems. The only problems that have arisen are from negative1's torrent. I've sent him a PM to find out what he did to unpack the original ISO so hopefully i can solve the problem soon

ok,

everyone,
i've come back to check up on the issues mentioned here..

got your message adywan..

i've had 0 issues with the files, and with the menu/etc..
------------------------------------------------------------------

1 here's what i did......i downloaded all the original
rar files from the newsgroups

2 ran par on it to check for errors, came through 100% good,
so i did NOT run the fix on the files..

3 ran unrar, to create .iso

4 unpacked .iso, and burned with nero burner..

5 repacked it as a torrent , and added fix in the dvd-rom folder..

in no way, did i touch the files, alter them or change them..

i'm viewing the dvd on my computer now, and will double check..
the original iso file..

sorry to adywan, and to all those that got it....

i honestly had no problems with it or burning it..

will get back to you shortly..

by the way, i'm going to kill the current torrent,
and start again with the 'fixed' version
or the .iso...once its ready..

update:
i'm checking my files now, and while i did go into all
the menu options originally to make sure they worked,
somehow i skipped over the deleted scenes..and the multi
angle ones....you're correct the menu comes up and the
disc/scene stops.....so somehow an error was introduced
along the line......i'm not sure where though, as being reported
the file sizes are consistent with the ones i got, so i don't think
they got corrupted there...very puzzling...
=====================================

second update
-----------------
i unpacked the original rars->iso

and am now burning the .ISO file directly to see if that works..

i think what might work is this, take the files you have,
create an .ISO

i'm nuking both torrents that are up, and replacing with the .lSO
file torrent......if you get the new torrent, point it to your own
files, and if all goes well, only the small subset of changes
will be fixed on your files...

SORRY AGAIN FOR THE INCONVENIENCE...

yeh that's pretty much confirmed what i thought. Those 3 files have been changed

Ok heres the correct fix (only slightly different way of going round it). ONLY NEEDED FOR THE TORRENT DOWLOAD:

first make sure you have added the NTSC fix files from the DVD-ROM folder into your VIDEO_TS folder then download this file:
EXTRA PAR2 FILE
once downloaded unpack the rar file and put the file it contains into the VIDEO_TS folder .

now run quickpar again scan all the files and say "ready to repair using...." . Click on "Repair" and sit back. the repair will take a while depending on your setup. Once its has finished repairing then close the program and make sure you take any par2 files out of the VIDEO_TS folder but DON'T put them in your DVD folder. place them elsewhere on your PC

Now you need Pcgedit. install pcgedit if you haven't already got it. open it and select "file> open DVD" and select the VIDEO_TS folder that you have added the fix to. now pgcedit will start scanning the disc and a new box pops up. don't do anything until you see the "close" button that will appear when the scan is done.
Once this is done goto "file>BURN DVD/ CREATE ISO" and select that. A new box will pop up saying "DVD saved ok". Click ok.
Now in the next box that appears make sure DL media type is selected as "Double layer DVD+R". Goto "output ISO" and select where you want the ISO file to be stored ready for burning later. Just name the "volume label" star wars 4" or anything you want.
once you have done this click "ok"
Another small box will pop up telling you there are other folder and if you want to burn them. Just click "yes"
Next another box will appear. This is the layer break box. In the top section of the box "cell 28" should be highlighted blue. If one of the others is highlighted just click on the line containing "cell 28" then click "OK"

Your new ISO will be created

You can then burn the ISO image file with Imgburn (best one to use and it is included in the DVD-ROM folder) or nero or similar

if you use imgburn make sure that when the layer break box pops up when you go to burn the disc you highlight the layer break and make sure that "don't update IFO's" (it says something like that but can't remember) box is ticked and burn

ALL should be fine now
