I think gnomes are involved somehow.

Anyone have a quick, concise layman's explanation of how par2 files work? And how exactly do they get those gnomes into your computer to fix everything? :)

Gnomes... oh my... can you beleive this loser? GNOMES! What a moron!

Everyone with a tech degree knows it is 100% gremlin based magic... That is why you always end up with one part too few pars to recover! Although it helps to sacrifice a goldfish on your keyboard before beginning invoking that particular necromancy.

negative1,

On the NTSC DVD-9 that you torrented (thanks again), has the fix already been applied?

erikstormtrooper,

no i haven't applied the fix, because the original files worked fine
for me..

however, i kept the fix in the ->DVD-ROM in case you feel
you are going to have issues, and want to apply them.

i heavily suggest, using the ability to burn to a virtual drive,
or use the 'test burn' facility found in some software (NERO)
to make sure the image is fine before burning..

i'm very disappointed in the state of DVD Dual Layer burning,
this should not be that hard....the media has been out for quite
some time, and the burners also....maybe the media companies
want to make it hard for people..

but then again.....i don't know of ONE SINGLE PERSON that
has ever used CD-RW consistenly...and trust me i've tried
using, but CD-Rs are so cheap, whats the point? [just
as a comparison to technology that should be mature,
but isn't]..

This is B*llshit, there isn't a faster way to get your data then through usenet! Simply because it uses the maximum bandwith as agreed with your provider (if you have a good usenet provider) I got this baby in 40 minutes from usenet to my HD (20Mbit), you will never get this speeds from torrents or rapidshare.......

ok, since you started this, i'm just going to post my rebuttal to you, and that
will be it...i'm tired of telling you people (and that includes all you
other 'newsgroup' groupies)...I'M NOT AGAINST NEWSGROUPS,
but THEY'RE NOT FOR EVERYONE.....how do you think i got it in the
first place?????......

i have a 20mbit down/5mbit up connection from COX internet service,
and yes, i'm on 24/7 constantly uploading/downloading stuff..
so it's not like i don't know how to set things up...

by the way, i easily max out my download rate from rapidshare..maybe YOUR
account is being limited, ever think of that?or maybe YOU don't know how
to setup your torrent software to get the fastest speeds?

picture 1 of when i started downloading from the newsgroups:
note the the starting date/time : 5/15/2008 11:04 pm
(got the .NFO later)..

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/5176/swep4news1yi8.jpg

(and yes, i have about 12 versions of star wars ep4 on my removable hard disk right now!).

By the way, the downloading stopped, and died out near the end,
so i had to go back and redownload a whole bunch of parts later..
wow, that was fun (sarcasm).

note : each piece took about 20 minutes to download

finished time.. : 5/18/2008 1:20pm (due to redownloading parts)

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/4794/swep4news2wa7.jpg

wow a whole 3 days, boy was the quick [sarcasm] (actually it wasn't that
bad)

look, i don't have time to fake these pictures, and sit here debating
with a bunch of you impatient people....fine, your so leet you can
get it in 1hour!!!! good for you!!!!!! i'm happy.....but are you sharing
it out?????? THATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TORRENTS AND
NEWSGROUPS!!

STOP COMPARING APPLES TO ORANGES., the only reason i keep
bringing up good/bad comparisons, is because there's a lot of
questions about how to get this release...

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......................and thanks to all
you newsgroup people, i will NEVER post files in the newsgroups
due to all the issues...torrents first, and then rapidshare, so
don't ever expect to see anything from me there..

To be fair on all levels, I've maxed out my connection via newsgroups, rapidshare, as well as torrents. For the most part, newsgroups and rapidshare are the fastest of the three for me, but occasionally I'll get a good connection within a torrent and max my connection, though it doesn't happen much.

See? Different results for different people. Can't we all just get along? :)

Well if you can't max out your connection on newsgroups then either you haven't set up your client correctly (how many connections did you set it up to access and what client were you using?) or your ISP is throttling your access to usenet. If you had it all set up correctly it should have only have taken about an hour to get the DVD-9 with your speed. But i do know that some ISP's newsgroup access does limit you to only 1 connection which is why its always best to go for a dedicated usenet access provider than rely on your ISPs

That does sound like throttling or you have your client setup to only access 1 connection, but even with 1 connection it should never stop and you should have good speeds. plus your client should have a resume feature so you wouldn't have had to re download the whole files again and even if there were incomplete files the par2 files are there to fix them. it would have started right from where it left off. that has never happened to me before. Sure you get slowdowns but that is only due to your connection but 3 days to get a DVD-9 on a 20mbit connection?

I'm sorry but i have to call you on this one. Of course you share it out. if i hadn't have posted the DVDs in the first place then there would be no Torrents of Revisited in existence. So i'm pretty sure that i have already shared, and i don't have to worry about keeping my PC & internet tied up for weeks just so there can be enough seeders for someone else to take over. You don't need to share on usenet because the files are already there because someone was kind enough to share it. They are still there for anyone to access for up to 200 days + and even then you can usually bet that someone will repost a file once it disappears or when asked in a forum. saying torrents are better because you share isn't a very good argument. What happens when you have spent weeks getting a file off torrents only to find that when you get close to finishing the seeder buggers off? a bit stuffed there then aren't you?

It is impossible to max out your download speed on torrents because you will be uploading at the same time, so you bandwidth is limited (unless you set your client not to allow uploading and then that's not sharing is it?)

But you only seem to bringing up the "torrents are best" argument and giving people false information about other options and how bad newsgroups are compared to torrents when in fact they are not.

Now for god sake can we please get this thread back on topic. This and my episode V thread suddenly turned into a slanging match recently about stupid things and i say NO MORE. God knows what has happened to this site but people just can't seem to get along any more and get aggressive when someone has a different point of view than them even when they have been proven wrong about a subject (not talking about the subject we have been going on about recently in here by the way)

now please can we have a return to what this site use to be like?

I think to help get us back on topic, we should make a list of the changes between the XVID vs DVD-5 vs DVD-9 vs PURIST. I think I made a partial list for fanedits.com, but I for one am curious as to what exactly was changed back in PURIST.

My partial list between the XVID and DVD-5 is:

- Removed the ILM crew member from the droid sale
- Removed the wire and batteries seen up Luke's sleeve in Ben's hut
- Removed the remaining wires from Ben's sleeve during the sabre fight
- Ponda Baba's arm swapped for Dr. Evazan' s arm & hand
- Slight tweak to the TIE approach. The background & camera is no longer static at the beginning & a new Death Star surface
- Fixed the gunport shot during the TIE battle where the gun remains static when Han swings the chair and the gun can clearly be seen over the top of the chair instead of behind it
- Typos in the credits fixed

DVD-5 and DVD-9:

- Replaced "fixed shot" where gun was added to the Death Star Control Room to prevent a continuity error and erased a gun from the following shot. Now there are three guns on the rack after our heroes leave the droids behind.
- Remixed Vader's voice even further to match the rest of the trilogy(?)

DVD-9 and PURIST:

Changes from the full version:
- Changed 3PO's line back to "There'll be no excape for the princess this time"
- Re-edited Obi-Wan's Hut scene back to its original version
- Removed the extended Death Star reveal
- Removed the extended TIE Fighter reveal
- Removed all music not originally found in the film

That sound about right?

Except for the PURIST changes, which I just assumed, the others were the lists you made the day of the releases.

A few weeks ago you posted a new Vader voice. Did you change his voice for the DVD-9 and PURIST?

I noticed on the DVD-9, you took out your first credit at the end because the text commentary says "Whoohoo! That's me! under Harrison Ford's name.

I noticed a small issue with the DVD-9 that I got from the torrent. But I may be jumping the gun a bit, since I haven't applied the fix yet (although I thought the fix only affected where the layer break should go).

When I open the files from my hard drive with the VideoLan Player, there seems to be a problem when I access the menu for deleted and extended scenes. The menu plays for about 2 seconds, and I see the stormtroopers start to go up the Falcon's ramp, but then the menu dies and the screen goes blank.

Anyone else experience this?

Just the video files, or did you save it as an ISO and use Dameon Tools to mount it?

I'm going to test it out when I get off work in a few hours.

Vlan has an option like "open folder" that I think treats a whole folder as a virtual DVD. So I was looking directly at the files. I haven't made an ISO yet.

Was the torrent you downloaded the iso file or were the files already unpacked into their folders ? Also someone mentioned that in one torrent the NTSC fix is in the DVD-Rom folder. Is that the case with yours Erikstormtrooper

The torrent is unpacked VIDEO_TS, DVD_ROM and JACKET_P folders. And I had this same problem running the VIDEO_TS folder through Apple's DVD Player on the computer and on the DVD I burned on my standalone home player with the deleted scenes menu - I can't access it at all.

--EDIT--

Just tried applying the fix, and the issue still exists - the transition between the "Special Features" and "Deleted & Extended Scenes" menu freezes so the latter can't be accessed.

This is another reason why i hate torrents. There were so many times when i use to use torrents that someone unpacked the original ISO to post and used bloody winrar to unpack it which screws the DVD up. I'll see if i can come up with a fix for people having problem with the torrent as soon as possible

As Chainsawash described, the torrent I downloaded was unpacked. I saw the NTSC fix in the DVD-ROM folder, but I didn't get a chance to run it before I left for work this morning.

Well whoever posted the torrent has messed about with the DVD because the fix should NOT be in the DVD-ROM folder at all. Hopefully i have a solution so you can check to see if anything is wrong with the structure and it will fix it and apply the fix at the same time. But please remove the fix in the DVD-Rom folder because it shouldn't be there

EDIT: ok i have a way of checking the files. First you need to apply the fix for the NTSC. just drag the files (in the fix folder in the DVD-rom) into the VIDEO_TS folder and overwrite the original files.

once you have done this you need to download and install QUICKPAR (unfortunately this this prog is windows only). Mac users download MACPAR Deluxe
once installed download THIS file and place it into the VIDEO_TS folder. Open Quickpar (or macpar)and load the par2 file. This will now scan the files and report any errors. Once the scan is complete if you can let me know the results then i can post the files to fix it
