I've been a proponent of axing Boba from ROTJ for quite some time. His presence does help give closure to the Han/Jabba/Boba angle, but leaves a cool-looking and engaging character (due mostly to the mystery and costume) an unsatisfactory demise. Of course, in the context of his 'father' Jango's rather quick demise I guess it works. They're both arrogant and get what's coming to them as a result. And, Han gets a small bit of revenge even if by accident.
I thought AOTC would've fared better with Boba being the main bounty hunter. No Jango, just Bob A. Fett. Up until AOTC there was no canonical story of Boba's origins. Is he human, alien, robot, what? It would have been nice to continue the mystery. Have him show up, kick ass, win, and leave; not to be seen again until ESB. Then, when the audience sees him again in ESB, there would be this realization that this guy's a badass and our heroes are in real trouble now. Boba then goes on to win and exit stage right yet again. Not appearing in ROTJ would leave more storylines open for him post-ROTJ (even though I fully realize he technically 'escaped' the Sarlacc in the EU). Star Wars is populated by species who live for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Age shouldn't be a concern between the two time periods.
We could then be relieved of yet another "Star Wars Babies" storyline George seemed to love so much in the PT. (Nine year old Anakin? Nine year old Boba? Yoda with more hair and a "younger" appearance even though he's still over 800 years old? How much older could a being look between 860 and 900?)
But I digress. I'm very much pleased with the direction so far of ESBR. Restoring the original Boba's voice will be most welcome.
