Well....Star Wars.
Okay then.I was not old enough to see ANH in the cinema.I was three but ESB was one of first memorable cinema experiences and is burned in my brain.I can still FEEL the size and scope of those walkers!ROTJ was so much fun and I still have a great fondness for it.
However ANH is,and always shall be,my favourite movie. Not just favourite star wars movie but favourite movie full stop. What it boils down to is that,in essence,it is the perfectly balanced film. The characters-the wise old man,the black-clad villain, the callow youth, the rogue with a heart of gold and a princess. The clearly defined lines of good vs evil.Bravado, integrity and daring.Special effects to make your brain pop.Scale,scope,vision.Stunning cinematography the best example of which I give is always Luke standing with the smoke billowing after finding Owen and Beru's bodies and that rising crescendo from Williams.Stunning scene.
Most of all though, and on a personal level,it is just immensely inspiring. How the smallest band of people with integrity, heart and togetherness and right on their side can overcome the greatest of evils.I had a rotten childhood with just terrible things happen to me and Star Wars was a constant inspiration and guiding light for me.Luke Skywalker was and remains my absolute and complete hero (next yo my wife and sons and mother naturally).May seem odd,and some may see it as overblown or melodramatic, but the films and the character of Luke gave me inspiration and strength to continue at a really dark time of my life and continues to help me in this regard when life is tough (as I am ill and have been for some time).Need a lift?Watch Star Wars.Star Wars has taught me many great things that I feel have improved me as a person
It's why I collect the things I do-to get a deeper connection.
I am not of the opinion that the prequels were a complete waste of time and I prefer to see the good in them and there are things i like about them.As I have said here before (whilst worried about the barracking, lol) there is a naive innocent charm about TPM that appeals to me and my sons love it so that is good.I am not a fan of AOTC (I feel something went wrong there!) but I do however very much like ROTS.I wont go into some long-winded debate about why I like it I will just say that I do and leave it there.
I do NOT like the SEs.They are the one thing that Lucas has done that I very, very strongly disagreed with and is why I became a member here,It is original trilogy.com after all!I dont see liking the prequels for what they are and liking the OOT as being incompatible.I do however detest the SEs as they were, when it comes down to it,completely unnecessary.
Anyway though Star Wars (1977) stands as a benchmark in cinema, modern culture and in my life has had genuine significance.
Dont know if any of that is useful but there you go!
