I know it probably seems like it's been on again/off again, which I know is frustrating for everyone, but if you knew how much time and effort we've poured into this thing... We're just regular guys with jobs and families who do this on the side, you know?
We know man, knowing you're still working on it is all we need
But, take my word... We're dedicated to finishing it, and we WILL finish it. It's just a matter of time.

Then we shall wait, just don't drop it, because THEN you'll unleash our wrath
Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for giving us something to wait for.

Hello Everybody,

Just wanted to let everybody know we are still here and work continues. The last few weeks have been good to us. Several things have come together really well.

I'm in the process of rebuilding the soundtrack (in 5.1) for the scene where Obi-wan and Anakin chase Zam through coruscant. InfoDroid decided to use different music behind that scene which led us to throwing the soundtrack away and starting over.

ID is editing the bar scene I believe and trying to come up with a rough cut for the first half of the movie. Were splitting the first movie into two parts, roughly 1 1/2 hours each.

I wish I had more time to devote to it, but real life often gets in the way. Some weeks I have alot of time to spend on it and other weeks none at all. Last week was a good week , I had alot of free time to work on the soundtrack and made it 30 seconds into the scene!! A whole week's work for 30 seconds!

Anyway that's where we are. Not very exciting I know, but better than nothing right?

About posting clips: We are going to post two more clips and their going to be roughly 1 1/2 hours long. :)

wow! two uber clips!:D cant wait!

about the episode II edits you are doing; are they going to be following similar ideas to the "Shroud of the Dark Side" edit, with the de-saturation etc? i thought the addition of the the blade runner clips and the use of a more urine-stained-yellow tinge to the bar gave it a nice edge.

cant wait to see the clips!

ALSO

are you changing the music to scenes from the OT, or just the PT?

The bar scene will be very much in the spirit of Trooperman's cut. We have talked with him and he gave his blessing. :)

Music changes are still being decided on a scene by scene basis. Right now we have added or changed music to mostly prequel scenes. I can only think of one scene from the ot that we have changed the music too and the last time we discussed that we were talking about changing it back.

Sadly enough alot of the changes are dictated by our abilities to do certain things. If only I had a clean dialogue track with no music the possibilities would be endless.

Just to give you an idea of how long this is taking. I am 2:05 into the speeder chase scene from aotc. This has taken me approximately three weeks to get this far and the hardest part is yet to come.

If anyone has any more questions please don't hesitate to ask. I'm off to find a sound effect for Anakin's speeder as it zooms by camera.

About the bar scene: Our version was "inspired" by Trooperman's cut, though it won't be an exact duplicate. We were very impressed with how much atmosphere he was able to create and the foreboding tone he was able to infuse into an otherwise weak scene. So, it's our interpretation of those elements.

A few shots from Blade Runner are being used, albeit slightly different shots arranged in a slightly different way than what TM had. Like his, the framing is tighter throughout the scene and the crowd noise has been elevated to give it a more claustrophobic feel. The colors will be similar, and the music is a toss-up between TM's "Village Inn", "Lapti Nek" and "Iziz Cantina" from KOTOR. I'm partial to "Iziz Cantina" at the moment. It just flows so well with our cut and provides the perfect atmosphere in my opinion.

One major difference between ours and Trooperman's is that his relied heavily on flipped shots. While I understand why he did this (a left to right entrance is better from a cinematography standpoint), we chose not to do this because of the continuity errors it would create. (Lightsabers on the wrong side, etc.)

I'm very pleased with how it's turning out. This scene combined with the revived chase scene help to infuse the AOTC portion with that classic OT feel that we all missed when watching the prequels...

The cantina song I always liked was from the upper city in Taris. I can't find the song on youtube, but here's a clip of the cantina itself.

If you guys are still shopping around for cantina-type music, there are two songs that I can also recommend (but sadly can't offer much concrete info on at the moment):

1) There was a cantina-type song that was featured in the Episode I and X-Wing: Alliance games. I'm guessing it could easily be ripped from the CD if needed. However, it had a very "AM radio" sound.

2) Several years ago the Lexus commercials used to feature an upbeat jazzy song. I thought it was VERY similar to the music for the Mos Eisley cantina, kind of like what they might have played if we'd stuck around for a third song.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Thanks for the suggestions, Guys! I'll look into it. I tried to find that Lexus song on the Adtunes forums. No one seems to know what it's called.

just trying to bump up the thread. I love the trailers on youtube. I think it is funny how good star wars looks without John Williams music. Never would have thought it could sound so good.

I think he was being sarcastic. ;-)

He means to say that when it's finished we'll be releasing it...

But, it WILL be released in hour-and-a-half-long halves. It's designed like an old roadshow picture, like Lawrence of Arabia...with an intermission between discs. Anyone seen "Alexander: Revisited"? It's loosely based on that type of structure.

The instrument has yet to be invented that can measure the quantity of my approval of that idea.

Are you intending to do this for all three films? Will there be overture and entr'acte? (Okay, so I'm half-joking with the second question — not like we couldn't just choose our own).

Also, are you still going to use Adywan's REVISITED edit?

Oh man, if that ever surfaced, I think the amount of fan edits would triple overnight!

Anyway, I've been aware of this project for a while now, but have just finished reading through the thread. (I did the same with Star Wars: Revisited and it was fascinating!) Nice to see that your project is still ongoing. It's certainly one of the most interesting Star Wars edits I've ever heard of!

Are you guys still looking for cantina-like music and taking suggestions? I listen to a fairly wide variety of music and might think of something that could fit. Depends on the mood you're going for, too.

Yes, we're still using Adywan's edit as the base of our ANH scenes. We'll be using elements from both the regular release and the "Purist" edition.

There may, in fact, be an Entr'acte. It's something I'd love to do.

An overture? Probably not.

And yes, we're still taking suggestions for cantina music. I see it as a roaring 20's -type jazz cellar...a smoky, prohibition-era gambling den...Coruscant style. Something upbeat. Loud brass and drums. Maybe a number like "Anything Goes"....or something.

Well, I have one suggestion. Have you seen the "Star Wars vs. Saul Bass" video at YouTube? (http://youtube.com/watch?v=z25t-PQDn5A) I love it! Very upbeat jazz. According to the info, 'the song is "Machine" by the Buddy Rich Band off the album Big Swing Face (1967).'

I thought of a couple more, but they're more mellow than you'd probably want. I'll keep thinking, though! ;)

If you're looking for that big-band sound, Pink Floyd has a little-known song called "Biding My Time" that has that feel to it, although I think it my be a little bit more slower tempo than what you're looking for. I'd recommend listening to the whole song before you make that call though. You can find it here:

Yeah. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull sucked HARD!

Congratulations, Mr. Lucas...you've destroyed yet another bullet-proof franchise.

There WON'T be an Indiana Jones: Reborn, I can assure you.
