I am... Iron Man!

Hey guys! I noticed we don't have a topic about one of this year's movies called "Iron Man".

Let me start out by saying, it was a great, fun movie to watch. I think many people out there take it too far (even the critics... whom I never EVER religiously look to for movie-guidance)... but rest assured "Iron Man" was a GOOD movie. Many people say it's the best comic-to-film adaptation out there, but I can't agree with that, honestly. I felt that it lacked something (Iron Man, that is)... and I'd be glad to talk to you about it.

What do you guys have to say? Explain yourselves!

I wish it got to the suit development quicker, I also wanted more iron man but I understand this is the first in a series, so this movie is the setup for the characters and story......overall it was fun..... maybe the next one will have a lot more iron man doing more heroic and cool things.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I saw it a few days ago. Good film. Very kick ass. Here's hoping the inevitable sequel's just as good.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Was Sam Jackson in there Post credits? I never stuck around to check..

I have to saw it's one of the best super hero themed films i've ever seen. This was much more my cup of tea than movies like spiderman that just got too silly for their own good.

I felt there was a great balance in there and not knowing a whole lot about the character's history I wasn't really left wanting for anything.

definitely filled a void while waiting for The Dark Knight.

Iron Man kicked my tits off. Nick Fury was awesome. And I'll just say, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers.

to me, the whole Sam Jackson thing at the end was funny. That's it. It was also slightly cheesy. I know I'll get stoned to death by angry comic book fans, but let's face it... it was made for a joke. Just for fun.

on the DC side.. I'm glad that "Justice League" is not going to happen. That just spelled disaster...

i don't think this is a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination, but i don't buy robert downey jr. as stark.

i was a fan of the comics and stark was supposed to be a very suave sophisticated type almost like sean connery as james bond.

kinda similar to how ai thought casino royale was a kickass movie but i don't buy craig as james bond.

This was a great film! Not an epic like 1978's Superman, but great. I think Marvel is doing the right thing by taking over the production end of it's own properties, rather then licensing out to other studios as it had with bomb films like The first "HULK", and "Fantastic Four" series. Marvel says it plans to do a lot of cross over stories and characters in future films it's producing, as it is a better over all story tactic for them to be able to have control of how and where all the characters are now used in a single conforming universe. I sure hope we will see a re-boot of X-Men at some point, as well as Spiderman now that it looks like the Tobey Maguire series is done. I'm not sure how long these other studios have options on the licensing for those properties, but I would think it's somewhat limited. Let's just hope Marvel know how to hire good directors that fit each title and character. The new Hulk trailer looks a bit better then the last one from a month ago, so I can only hope we get another good film in June. If Hulk does good, and Batman {from rival DC comics} kicks ass like we know it will, that would be 3 hit comic related films in the same season. That is sure to have distribution studios fighting and willing to put up big bucks so they can distribute new product as fast as possible before the latest comic book related trend dries up. That may be good news for fans, or could spell over saturation.

Saw this yesterday, really enjoyed it. And how cool did Iron man look?! The end battle was a bit lame and silly but whatever. The only bit I didn't like was the post-credit scene - I really hope that was just a gag for the fans and nothing more.

Agreed, the weakest part of the film was certainly the rivalry with Obi.

Re: the post credits stuff, They are probably testing the waters and gauging reactions on that, I didn't see the scene myself but I manged to get up to speed on youtube.

I recall Favrau mentioning these things tend to lose momentum after 2 movies and was planning on maybe doing 2 iron man films and then a 3rd with a larger scope - ie: Iron man and the Avengers, or whatever.

At least he doesnt want to make sequels just for the sake of sequels / cash. looked what happened to batman circa Joel Schumacher

Iirc, They were also planning to not have Obi be the villain until the second film. I guess we'll see how things play out now...Given Iron Man 2 already has a release date [April 30, 2010]

Possible Spoilers ahead if you know nothing about Iron Man:

I've no idea where they will take this for the sequel... the possibilities are endless really. It could just be a straight 'Iron Man vs Random Bad Guys' story, or there's the alcoholism storyline but judging by the tone of the first film that might be a bit heavy. Same goes for the paralysis storyline. War Machine was hinted at, but that should wait till the 3rd film if at all. Iron Man's arch-nemesis is Mandarin but I can't really see that working on film... well, not this sort of film anyway... one thing I liked about this was it was very 'real'. I mean, obviously the technology to make the suit is waaaayyy beyond anything that exists, and Stark building a life-saving mini-generator in a cave while he's hooked up to a car battery (with no sign of infection) is not realistic, but you get what I mean - it was all real world stuff, not magical.

One last thing - I am not really a fan of CGI but the CGI in this movie was awesome. There were times (especially in the desert/afghanistan scenes) when Iron Man looked 100% real.

War does not make one great.

I'd assume it'd have something to do with the 10 rings, and possibly alchohol.

It's hard to pick a favourite moment, I really enjoyed the whole film, But i really dug the "He's all yours" moment.

I think I recall Favrau saying something along the lines of the Mandarin storyline not being that great for a movie as well...
