I would show my younglings the original versions of Star Wars, Empire and Jedi in that order.

There's nothing else to show...

If they discover anything else after that, that's their business. I will not be the one to show them any of the shit that came afterwards.

Bitter, much? So you would stick to your own OT fundamentalism instead of introducing your kid to three movies (just movies, mind you) that they might potentially enjoy? If they don't like the PT either, just shut it off, but to not show it to them just because of your own aesthetic tastes is disturbingly extreme.

Whatever bitterness you are reading here is entirely in your own imagination....I never said I wouldn't let them see the prequels. I said I would show them the OOT and that's it. If they want to see more, then they can see them...and I'd probably watch them with them too. But I'm not going out of my way to put them on.

CO....you are right...the best will win out in the end....but I'm keeping the faith nonetheless and making sure the kiddies experience SW exactly the way I did...by seeing the best first.

Oh, I'm sure my son would enjoy the PT...for a few minutes. And even if he sits through them right now and loves every minute, I have no doubt that when he's 16 or even older, he'll sit down to watch them and say the same thing that I say about Thundercats (pick any random bad 80's cartoon) "I use to watch this crap?"

Contrast that with the OT (and other good 80's cartoons like Robotech). I can sit down and enjoy them time and time again. They never get old. No matter which version I watch (OOT or any fan edits, I don't do SEs), I always enjoy them.

The PT on the other hand is barely tolerable to me. TPM seems to get worse every time. AOTC and ROTS are better and actually tolerable, but they're still bad. Even the fan edits can't remove all the crap.

My kids will see the OOT and if they take a liking to it, I can only hope they'll watch it as much as I did (every day for 3 months when I was a kid during summer). When they get older, if they ask about the prequels, I might throw the DVDs in the player so they can see for themselves what a horrible botch job Lucas pulled. I'd rather see them enjoy something that they'll still enjoy as adults then show them something they'll enjoy right now and then later look back and say "I can't believe I use to watch this crap".

I agree, but times are different now with DVD and essentially all the movies being out at once.

I am pretty sure we are roughly the same age, but we saw the movies 3 years apart, and waited....waited for the next installment. They are going to see the movies probably all in a couple of days? weeks?

I saw SW in '77 and just enjoyed the movie for 3 years before ESB, and the ironic thing was I only saw the movie once in the first 6 years of its existence! If you remember we had to wait til '83 to see the movie on HBO! So even though SW was my favorite movie, and ESB & ROTJ were #2 & #3, I only really saw them once in the first few years of existence. I didn't see ESB again til 1985 when we finally got a VCR, and ROTJ again til 1986 when it came to home video.

I guess what I am saying is that I respect and agree you should show your kids the OT in that order first, but because of DVD, kids can watch the PT after that, and then tell you, "You know what pop in Episode IV, that was a really cool movie!" For us, I saw it SW in 1977 at 5 years old and then waited til I was 11 to see it again! So, we just grew up in a different time, and in someways, the waiting may have been the best part.

Yeah...CO, I agree. The waiting was what made it that much better.

I was only a year old when SW came out, so I missed it in the theater, but I remember seeing Empire when it came out. Through the good grace of my Dad who got a Betamax in about 1981 and then bought bootlegs of SW and Empire, I was able to watch those movies for two whole years before Jedi hit the theaters. So although I was a bit on the young side, I still experienced it firsthand.

Our kids will see the PT at some point. It's inevitable. I'm just going to make damn sure they see the OOT first and foremost. Then whatever comes their way is fine with me.

Look at it this way.....would ANYONE here show their kids The Holiday Special before they see anything else? Who knows? You might be jinxing them into hating SW cuz the HS makes the whole thing look STUUUUUUUUPID.

See....I do want my kids to like SW...not hate it or worst, be indifferent towards it.

What about the Ewok Adventures? I tried renting those a few years ago, didn't get 10 minutes into the first one before I announced to my friend (who is also a huge Star Wars fan), "If we keep watching this, I'll never want to watch anything Star Wars again."

Oh hell no! If my kids want to torment themselves when they're older, that's fine by me, but the HS will never be allowed anywhere near my TV.

I've heard plenty of Star Wars fans so "It's a right of passage" when referring to seeing the abomination that is the Holiday Special. If someone had told me how utterly horrible it was, I wouldn't have bothered to watch it myself. The ONLY good thing about it is the animated segment. The rest is utter crap. I've even told other fans when they said they hadn't seen it "You don't need to. You don't want to. It is SOOOO bad, that you're better off NOT seeing it". Of course, that prompted the "right of passage" line from someone that had seen it.

The Ewoks and Droids cartoons I think I can tolerate. The HS is so bad that it might be worth having, but it's not worth watching.

I actually remember watching the Holiday Special in 1978 over my aunts house, and it was really bad. The only part I vividly remember was the wookie scenes, and how bad they were. I swear it was like watching an episode of that old 1970's show, 'Land of the Lost' with Star Wars characters. Awful!

Hey now, I remember loving "Land of the Lost". Maybe it was a crappy show, but I loved it as a kid. Who didn't pretend to be a sleestack?

If I have kids, I'm not showing them the prequels. THey'll have to go over to a friend's house to see them. I think it will go like this;

Episodes IV, V, VI

Indians Jones 1, 2, 3, 4
Watch DarthEvil's Who Framed Darth Vader? video on YouTube!

You can also access the entire Horriffic Violence Theater Series from my Channel Page.

There's no easy answer to this one since I never watch them in any particular order anyway. I watch whichever movie I want when the mood strikes.

But my kid will see all of them and the HS. The cartoons...all of it, because I watch it all myself. If he decides to fall asleep or grow bored of it, then that'll be up to him. I'm not going to force him to watch any of the movies if he doesn't want to. But it's really irrelevant at the moment since he's only 3 months old.
