If it went beyond email to him actually showing up at your door, then I might agree. However, you threatening a kid with "ending him" isn't going to do you or your kid any good. If my kid, for some weird reason, got a threat to "end him", I'd be on the phone with the police so fast your head would spin. Yeah, you have a reason to bring charges up on him and his father now has a reason to bring charges on you. You don't go around threatening minors with ending their life.

An adult can be prosecuted for threatening the life of a child just like you can be prosecuted for merely threatening the life of a public official. Do you really want to get arrested if the kid ends up dead and you were the last one that said "Stay away from my kid or I'll kill you!"? You just don't do it. No matter what you may have really done or how the kid acted, juries don't like adults killing kids.

We live in a very modern world. If someone calls you, more than likely you'll get caller id. Even if you don't, you can ask the phone company to tap your line and they'll see the number whether it's blocked or not.

The only time a threat needs to come into play is when they show up at your doorstep or try to pick your kid up at school (or something similar). A 16 year old isn't likely to get that far though.

If my 6 year old daughter (I believe PSYCHO said his daughter was 6) came to me and said that, the first thing I'd be wondering is how in the hell she was getting to emails without me sitting there with her since my computer is password protected. I'd also be wondering what the hell she was doing answering the phone since she's not suppose to be doing that either.

However, if some dipshit was emailing her and I saw them, I would be dumping them in the spam filter and ignoring them. I would probably reply to the first one telling them to stop, but I'm not sure. Having them dumped into a spam folder is perfect because then we don't have to see them, but they can be saved for evidence if necessary. If the same dipshit (or any other dipshit) started calling the house repeatedly, I'd first ask them to stop calling. If they persist, I would immediately be on the phone with the police department and phone companies initiating call traces. Both the police department and the phone company are very accommodating when it comes to tracing those type of people.

In either case, all contact would summarily stop. Just because you guys are to retarded to use technology and the law to your advantage, doesn't mean the rest of us are.

Personally, I wouldn't have let a six-year-old have an e-mail, which apparently you did. But I'm glad that you're giving them freedom; not letting your kids answer the phone is a crime.

Well, that's the kind of law that's easily abused. So if you want to legally kill someone you only have to trick them to set foot on your property and you shoot them. Or what if you are hiking somewhere and you step onto someone's property without even knowing it, you risk getting shot.

I live just south of Los Angeles. The phone company and police department are very good at helping you with this type of thing. The phone company sets up a trace (your asking for it) and the police department fills out a report. The purpose of the trace is to gather evidence. Same for the report. The police don't even have to visit you on the same day.

I'm aware of that law and I think it's a great one. I wish we had something like that here in California. That goes back to my statement "When they show up at my door...". That's not the same thing as going and hunting them down though.

No, I don't think I'm the only one that's right, I'm just really sick of retarded people (and it's not just here, it's all over the place) that think the police need to be called after one or more EMAILS from a stranger. So they have your email address, so what? It would be like getting a message on a MySpace page. You just block the person and, maybe, report it to the police. Kids (yes, I think anyone under 18 is a kid) don't need to be threatened with their life for making weird ass comments.

This is why I don't think we need new laws for "internet harassment". We already have anti-harassment laws and they're very effective. No need to draft up new ones specifically for the Internet, especially when it's far easier to put someone on an ignore list.

Lets say your girlfriend cheats on you with your best friend. You can invite them over and shoot them dead when they walk onto your property.

But anyway, I looked up the law and it seems more nuanced then just being able to shoot anyone:

"Senate Bill 378 extends a person’s right to stand their ground beyond the home to vehicles and workplaces, allowing the reasonable use of deadly force when an intruder is:
- Committing certain violent crimes, such as murder or sexual assault, or is attempting to commit such crimes;
- Unlawfully trying to enter a protected place; or
- Unlawfully trying to remove a person from a protected place.
The law also provides civil immunity for a person who lawfully uses deadly force in the above circumstances. The use of deadly force is not lawful when it is used to provoke or if a crime other than a Class C misdemeanor is committed by the victim.

I think it's an excellent law. I wish we had something like that in the Netherlands.

Why is that? When I was a kid, we didn't have caller ID. There was no way to know who was calling until you answered the phone and asked. That's why my parents had a rule that we weren't to answer the phone if they were home. If they weren't home and someone asked for them, we were always suppose to say that they were working in the yard or they were in the shower. That way if some crazy person were calling, they'd think our parents were home.

With caller ID this is much less of a problem, but the problem still exists. You can now tell what number the person is calling from unless their number is blocked. Personally, if my kid needs to take a call, that person can talk to me first anyway.

Yes, the law is a bit more nuanced than Psycho led us to believe. It's not just a shoot whoever you want when they're on your property kind of law. Of course the above situations are helped by having witnesses. If there are no witnesses, the police will probably have to have an investigation to make sure you were complying with the law.

You're going to need a bit more information than just an email address in order to find real personal information. I'm not your average internet moron that creates a bunch of public profiles everywhere and puts all my personal information into them. I've been using online services since before BBSs became huge, so I know a thing or two about keeping my identity private.

But this all comes back to the previous point. A modern 6 year old will naturally put in all the information a site asks for and they'll be truthful about it. But why does a 6 year old even need an email address? They don't. And even if they did, the parents should be monitoring the usage and making sure the 6 year old doesn't put anything in the profile that'll be made public.

When I was 6 we didn't have to worry about it since online services and email barely existed and none of them were interlinked. Today, everything you put out there is out there, which is why I'm pretty careful about what I put out there.

So go ahead and find all the information you can on that email address. I'm genuinely curious to see if you can even do anything with it besides send it some email. Have fun!
