I'm throwing another Movie Marathon, and thought I'd invite you fine folk too:

The Alternative STAR WARS Original Trilogy MovieThon

Next Saturday, April 26th, at Chuck's theatre we'll be showing alternate versions of the Original Star Wars Trilogy.

Show up anytime after 2pm at 6820 F Hyde Park Drive, in San Diego, California. We'll have soda, beer and popcorn, comfy stadium style couch seating and a big ass projection TV with top of the line surround sound.

THE SHOWS:

3pm - Star Wars: A New Hope Revisited
by Adywan

This fan made version of the first Star Wars film not only fixes errors and technical limitations that should have been made in the official Special Edition, but also brings more realism to the Cantina scene, more action to the lightsaber duel, and completely overhauls the final deathstar battle to make it feel more like the action packed space battles that make up the rest of the Saga. The changes are so professionally done, and many times so subtle that they don't bring attention to themselves, but the several hundreds of mostly minor changes and fully re-mixed audio have a profound collective impact on viewers, causing them to feel they are re-living seeing Star Wars for the first time.

6pm - Building Empire
by Jambe Davdar

This unofficial documentary of sorts, incorporates on-set footage, alternate takes and angles, audio interviews, reconstructed deleted scenes, storyboards and other rare footage from various sources, and weaves them together with the original Empire Strikes Back movie, giving us a look "behind the scenes" unlike any official documentary thus far. This is the spiritual sequel to last years "Deleted Magic".

9pm - Return of the Jedi: Ewok-less
by Spence, with a few alterations by me

Imagine if George Lucas hadn't decided to steer the Saga toward the cute and cuddly. Imagine if the lesson he took from the success of Empire was that kids get serious and dramatic sci-fi, not just that kids love muppets. Imagine if the last film of the saga wasn't made for kids. This film attempts to imagine that, by not only cutting out every single Ewok, but also by removing the goofier dialog and sillier moments, and de-wimpifying Han Solo. This is Return of the Jedi for grown-ups.

As always, I'll be showing funny shorts in between the movies. Let me know if you plan on coming. And you're welcome to bring guests. No young kids please.

If I lived on the West Coast, I would, but alas I live in Chicago.

By the way, where did you get this "Ewok-less" ROTJ? I'm very curious about it ...

Everytime you post one of these things you make me wish I lived somewhere nearby. It sounds awesome, I wish I could come. Someday I will invent the sight to sight transporter, and when I do I will be beaming in for every one of the things.

Actually, I am very curious of this Ewok-less Jedi too.

Yeah, you know, kids. Those loud things with short attention spans who have to be protected from objectional content.

Uh, yeah... would be awkward for a 14-year-old to show up and go "hey guys! I'm a star wars freak, and saw the note on OT.com and decided to show up!"

I shouldn't have said Adults only. I mean I don't mind 13 or older. I just don't want talkers and squirmers...

I was only fooling... I couldn't force anyone to make the drive (as far-away-yet-close as I am), as fun as it sounds. "No talkers and squirmers" is an understandable statement.

Where are you? Maybe there's another OTer in the same town and you don't know it.

The showing went well. I had 10 people, and they all loved SW: Revisited and Building Empire. It dropped down to 6 people for RotJ, which was liked overall, but some of the cuts in the space battle ("It's a Trap!") were definitely missed.

Overall a fun night!
